When we held our inaugural taping in Elyria, Ohio in May of 2009, we did so under the banner of “Beyond Your Expectations Wrestling.” Go back and watch some of the matches we taped over the course of that year in an abandoned garage in the middle of a corn field using a pair of decade-old Sony Digital8 Handycams. Would you expect that same organization to host a first-time-ever meeting between the ROH World Champion and the DGUSA Open the Freedom Gate Champion just two years later? Would you expect that same organization to produce a tournament featuring mostly unestablished talent that blows the aforementioned contest away? Would you expect that same organization to release their strongest outing to date for free for the world to see?

When it comes to watching wrestling, if you set your expectations too high, you’ll never be satisfied with the end result. Likewise, if you set your expectations too low, you might forego watching altogether. With that said, if you consider yourself a wrestling fan, the “Tournament For Tomorrow” is something you need to watch. The lineup is comprised of eight of the most promising wrestlers on the planet. These competitors have the potential to make positive, lasting contributions throughout the wrestling industry within the next year, maybe sooner. Aaron Epic, ACH, AR Fox, Drew Gulak, Jonny Mangue, Pinkie Sanchez, Sugar Dunkerton, and The Pitboss are fighting for something more important than wins and losses or pride or money. Each one of these men is fighting for attention and the influence that comes along with building a strong following.

Getting back to expectations, we don’t want to overhype this tournament because it might take away from your viewing exp

erience. If we told you that the “Tournament For Tomorrow” is as good as (if not better than) the Battle of Los Angeles, the Young Lions Cup, the Best of the Best, the TPI, the Jeff Peterson Cup, or the Style Battle, what would you do? Would you balk at such an audacious claim and immediately write off Beyond Wrestling? Would you begrudgingly skim through the matches with the intent of dwelling on the imperfections? Or would you invest roughly twenty minutes, once a week, for the next two months, to appreciate the efforts of those who are motivated by pushing this industry forward? Sure, it’s a big claim, but we’re really not trying to step on any toes. We just want wrestling fans to enjoy the fruits of our labor because at the end of the day, we’re wrestling fans too, and we know good wrestling when we make it.
