Match in Five Words or Less: Rock Bottom

Match Highlights: The crowd in Williamsport is rather sparse. The state of Pennsylvania is really cursed at this point considering the hurricane in August and snow in October. Kodama with hard shots in the corner. Head stand by Ophidian. He rolls out and dances through. He tries to hyptonize Kodama, but Bryce Remsburg is put in front instead. They guide him to the corner and keep wrestling. Kodama is confused. Ophidian is able to get Bryce to count. Kodama says Ophidian is cheating. A hop, skip, and jump later, we’re back. Fishermen’s suplex gets two. Kodama up and over with a neckbreaker for two. Choking along the middle rope. Series of strikes and headbutts. Drop toehold to the middle rope. And botched leg drop. Charge met with a boot. Rake of the eyes by Kodama. Rana. Running neckbreaker. Into a chinlock. Kodama bites Ophidian. Back and forth off the ropes and Ophidian connects with a kick. More twistling leg lariats. Combo of kicks followed by a standing moonsault gets two. Death Grip locked in. Kodama rams Ophidian into the middle rope. Ophidian asks for the cheers of the fans. Up and over. Ophidian hits a powerbomb. Springboard moonsault misses. Kodama heads up top. Ophidian joins him. Rip of the eyes and a top rope blockbuster gets a big upset win for Kodama.

Match Analysis: Because of the snow storm, we lost a number of matches that were scheduled for Easton. It’s a bit disappointing Ophidian couldn’t have his match with Sugar Dunkerton because this was just merely alright. I would have preferred Obaryion getting the win, but the purpose was still served. Ophidian has had a an excellent track record of singles matches this year, which is amazing since he's lost so many in a row. Sadly, this fell short.

-Marion Fontaine has a moustache, and he knows how to use it. He also has a number of moustache alliterations.

Match in Five Words or Less: Marching Versus Moustache

Match Highlights: Bryce checks the ‘stache for any foreign objects. Peck is flustered. Peck applies a headlock and wants an immediate tapout. Peck is scared of Fontaine’s moustache. More moustache related shenanigans. Leg lariat followed by a rana. Series of moustache chops. Sweep of the leg and a springboard splash. Peck grabs Fontaine’s trunks and hits a back suplex. He mocks the moustache and is punished with a bodyslam. Running knees. Fontaine is singing… until he gets poked in the eye. Another leg lariat. Peck does a Flair flip and low bridges Fontaine. Dive misses miserably. Fontaine tells the band to stay back. Peck catches Fontaine and slingshots him. Cradle with a handful of tights gets two. Backbreaker. Forearm to the back. A second one with gusto. Kick to the back. He rips at the moustache. What a jerk. Victoria also takes a turn. Backbreaker. Boot. Fontaine no sells. He’s ‘staching up! Right hands followed by a clothesline. Back elbow and flying forearm. Death valley driver into a two count. Back senton misses. Torture rack into a backbreaker for two. “Fear the ‘stache” chant. Cranium Crescendo of course misses. Fontaine sits down on a powerbomb. Springboard misses but he ducks. Peck pancakes him and gets the victory.

Match Analysis: This was the perfect debut for Fontaine. This may not have been a great match, but this got his character across, and he got to show what he could do. I also loved Peck being scared of the facial hair early on since it also put emphasis on Fontaine’s character. Much better than the opener.

Shane Matthews has been training for the last six months only to find out the Easton show was cancelled. He’s in a four corner survival on this night. Scott Parker comes in dressed as Road Warrior Hawk. He proceeds to cut a hilarious promo in Hawk voice. Apparently, they’re made of stone.

Match in Five Words or Less: Colony Picks Up Another Point

Match Highlights: 3.0 come dressed as the Legion of Doom. Hilarious. Scott Parker cowers from Brodie Lee. Kobald immediately leaves the ring instead of starting. Crowd is behind the Colony. Kobald bites from behind. Soldier quickly gets back into the match. Obaryion bails his partner out. Fire Ant uses some lucha to get on offense. Big dropkick. Colony double team. Roughnecks clear the Colony. 3.0 take Lee out of the ring before double teaming Redwood. Matthews goes for a headscissors, but Lee hits a back suplex. Heat segment continues on Matthews. Dropkick leads to a tag to Parker. One footed dropkick. Batiri don’t fare well. Spear by Kobald. High springboard dropkick by Obaryion. Here comes Fire Ant. More double teaming from Batiri. Double team 3-D on Obaryion. Kobald sent into the corner. Slaps from Kobald. Matthews puts him on his shoulder. Doomsday Device eliminates Kobald at 7:10. Grizzly Redwood for a quick roll-up but only two. Matthews gets a Boston crab. Lee boots Matthews in the face. He and Matthews go outside. Soldier kicks at Lee. Fire Ant hits a dive. Redwood gets a quick roll-up on Parker and eliminates him in 8:10. High cross and a boot by Fire Ant. Brodie Lee over powers both ants. Flying headbutt by Redwood. Lee covers and gets two. Running charge misses. Series of charges by the Colony. Four Feet of Fury. Double boot on Redwood. Double butterfly DDT. Lee breaks the count. Right hand by Lee. Up and a rana from Soldier. Lee hits a dropkick. Truck Stop for 1-2-NO! Superkick by Lee. Rana by Redwood. Release German suplex turned into a roll-up and a win for the Colony. They now have two points toward the tag team titles.

Match Analysis: I like how Lee hasn’t been on a CHIKARA show in months, and now he was just on this show randomly. This was just okay. It was too short to really mean anything, and having three teams pinned that fast didn’t really lead to an effective contest. I understand the circumstances as to why this wasn’t very long, but I still would have liked more.

Match in Five Words or Less: One of These Doesn’t Belong

Match Highlights: This is the CHIKARA debut of Eddie Edwards. Some mat wrestling to begin. Series of counters. Stalemate. Jigsaw gets the crowd into things. Take down and back elbow from Jigsaw. Rana takes Edwards outside. Vicious chop from Edwards. Exchange of chops. Quack mocks Edwards’ nickname. Powerbomb but Jigsaw grabs the rope. Tope suicida takes them deep into the crowd. High cross body. Edwards hits n F-5 followed by a running knee. Jigsaw blocks a suplex attempt. Back suplex for two. Back elbow. He ties Jigsaw in an Indian deathlock. Chop exchange. Roll-up gets two. Quickly into an STF. Jigsaw hits a forehead kick and brainbuster. 1-2-NO! Series of kicks and running knee. Double stomp. Edwards hits an elbow and lungblower. Up and over for two. Jigsaw rolls underneath the ropes. Suplex blocked. Enziguri by Edwards. Jigsaw hits a running enziguri. Double stomp. 1-2-NO! Jigsaw looks to hit a superkick. Edwards hits one of his own. Leaping enziguri and backpack slam. Cover but then right into a single leg crab. Roll-up for two. Superkicks into the Jig ‘n’ Tonic and a big win for Jigsaw.

Match Analysis: This felt like an Eddie Edwards match more than something you’d ordinarily see in CHIKARA. The differences in style between these two feds could certainly be seen here. Absolutely nothing wrong with it, but much like the other matches on the show, it felt rushed and too short.

Winner (s)/Time/Match Rating/Entertainment Rating: Jigsaw/10:55/***/***

-Donst has his cup with him. He misses cutting great promos and defending the cup. He directs some words at Hallowicked and says he’s still the greatest Young Lions Cup champion of all time. He turns his attention to Green Ant, the man who lost to Tadauske. Donst gets passionately angry about the cup being in Japan and not in CHIKARA. He vows to break Green Ant.

Match in Five Words or Less: Donst Keeps Winning

Match Highlights: Basic to start. Neither man gets any sort of advantage. Pescado plancha by Green Ant. Tursas slowly makes his way to ringside. Donst whiffs on a dive. Tope suicida by Green Ant. Donst bodyslammed on the floor. Bryce turns his back, so Tursas tears Green Ant off the apron. He nurses his injured left arm. Donst guillotines Green Ant’s left arm and focuses the next bit of the match on it. Green Ant comes back with a clothesline and a dropkick. Headbutt to the arm. Green Ant counters and hits a torture rack slam. Tursas grabs the leg. Donst school boys for two. Into an armbar. Into the boots of Green Ant. Donst goes for a top rope Donstitution. Green Ant knocks him down and splashes in such a way he lands on his own arm. Donst applies From Dusk til Donst. Tursas nails Green Ant with a jack-o-lantern. Back to the submission hold. Bryce calls for the bell, and Donst’s winning streak continues.

Match Analysis: This was more of a match just to further a storyline than a well-executed contest. This is starting to feel like Young Lion’s Cup from August with a number of shorter matches that don’t feel like they’re getting enough time.

Winner (s)/Time/Match Rating/Entertainment Rating: Green Ant/9:20/**3/4/**1/2

-Green Ant and Tursas get into a brawl. There is minimal security, so members of the locker room have to break it up. Gregory Iron is out to break it up too. Well, he earned his paycheck tonight.

-Vin Gerard is mathematically eliminated from the 12 Large Summit; therefore, he didn’t care about facing UltraMantis Black three weeks prior. He then says it would be a shame to have something to have something happen to Kingston two weeks before the iPPV.

Match in Five Words or Less: A Major Upset

Match Highlights: Kingston tries bringing chairs into the ring even before the bell rings. Kingston heads in the ring, and Gerard departs. Right hand from Kingston. Brawl across ringside. Gerard tossed through all five rows of chairs. Into the bleachers where Kingston continues laying a whoopin’ down. Gerard kicks at K

ingston’s knee. Poor Bryce Remsburg can’t get these two back in the ring. Football in the face. Hope his nose is okay. Boot to the face as both men are finally back in the ring. Gerard rakes his eyes and takes him down by the knee. STF but Kingston blocks it. Gerard steps on Kingston’s knee. Another kick to the leg. STF but Kingston grabs the bottom rope. Gerard continues working over the knee. Kingston takes him outside. Gerard throws a wrench in the ring, chop blocks Kimgston, and applies the STF once again. Again to the bottom rope. Again with the STF. Kingston finally taps.

Match Analysis: This was an alright match. It wasn’t anything special but technically executed well. My confusion about the booking relates to Gerard and the fact that he’s barely been booked recently (and when he has, he's lost) yet got a rare victory over Kingston. I’m very interested to see if this turns into a renewed push for Gerard moving into 2012. Otherwise, I'm not sure why this was booked in such a way.

Winner (s)/Time/Match Rating/Entertainment Rating: Vin Gerard/9:47/***/***

-Gerard continually tries reapplying the hold as Kingston threatens his life. Just as it seems it’s all over, Gerard attacks Kingston on the entrance way and even tosses Bryce to the floor. He’s the only referee! Watch out for that! Come on man!

-Dasher runs down how they came to their three points. Sugar’s hair is standing because of the electricity, and they’re ready to win the Campeonatos de Parejas. He then pops a balloon. That means it’s serious.

Match in Five Words or Less: Justin Houston Was Wrong

Match Highlights: Bryce says since Johnny Gargano isn’t in the building, Icarus has to come out and defend the titles with Chucky T. Amazing how this keeps happening to F.I.S.T. Icarus and Chucky T lost the belts to Incoherence after an injury to Gran Akuma back in October 2007. Icarus has to quickly get himself ready. Pretty funny watching poor Icarus have to get ready. After Icarus puts some of his stuff on, F.I.S.T attacks from behind. Double team on Dasher. Icarus is sent into his partner. Accidental low blow. Flap jack from The Throwbacks. Atomic drop into a bulldog. Baseball slide and the Throwbacks are in control. Icarus distracts the referee. Taylor feigns a low blow. Icarus school boys Dasher and holds the tights for three. F.I.S.T wins the first fall in 1:33. Throwbacks quickly regain their bearings. Baseball slide to both Taylor and Icarus. Sugar D dives on both men. Taylor brings Sugar D down and rams his arm into the post. Icarus hits something (camera missed the move) and gets the advantage on Dasher. Heat segment on Dasher. Nearfall exchange between Icarus and Dasher. Icarus takes his shirt off to torture the fans. Dasher back drops Chucky T. Icarus kicks him and drags him to the middle of the ring. Dasher with a right hand on Taylor. Back suplex on Icarus. Sugar in with clotheslines for everyone. Swinging neckbreaker on Taylor for two. Clothesline takes Icarus down. Taylor breaks the count. Sugar back drops Icarus to the apron. Taylor misses a springboard moonsault. Dasher Oklahoma rolls Taylor for three in 7:33! Double kicks. Double stomp into a death valley driver from F.I.S.T. 1-2-NO! Sugar pulled into the ring. Superkick into the backcracker. Dasher breaks the count. Dasher jackhammers Taylor for two. Icarus goes for sliced bread. Suicide Squeeze. Sugar hits an elbow. 1-2-NO! Sugar sent outside. Taylor out of the Suicide Squeeze. Taylor superkicks his partner. Dasher gets a roll-up and nearly three. Slam Dunk combo. Icarus literally blocks the three count by sliding in front of Bryce. Dasher misses a baseball slide. Icarus nails Dasher with a fanny pack. Sugar locks the arms. Elbow on Icarus. Taylor hits Sugar with the fanny pack. 1-2-NO! Soul Food on Sugar’s arm. Gargano Escape! Sugar grabs the rope. Icarus steps on his arm. Why wasn’t the hold broken nonetheless? Sugar finally taps. F.I.S.T retains.

Match Analysis: This was a very good little sprint. It was utter chaos right from the bell in a good way. I dug a lot of this match. F.I.S.T again won because of chicanery and intelligence. Dasher and Sugar put in a solid effort, and who knows? They may get another opportunity some day. Best match of the show thus far.

Winner (s)/Time/Match Rating/Entertainment Rating: F.I.S.T/11:57/***1/4/***1/2

Match in Five Words or Less: Nothing

Match Highlights: Tursas cuts a prematch promo? When did he learn to speak English? He calls Del Rey weak and has words for Green Ant. Del Rey lays down on her back… and kicks Tursas. I bet a lot of the WWE Diva’s are more used to that position when around the male wrestlers than Del Rey. Del Rey hits a series of forearms. Yakuza kick. High knee. Another kick blocked. Powerslam by Tursas. He again glares at Green Ant. Elbow drop. Snapmare and a knee in the back. Belly-to-back suplex. Bearhug by Tursas. Del Rey headbutts out of the hold. Tursas sends her down. To the second rope and a somersault misses. Forearms by Del Rey. Kick to the side of the head. Series of axe kicks. La Majistral cradle gets two. Knees hits. Combo kick. Tim Donst interjects himself. Del Rey hits a rolling dive. Jakob grabs Del Rey as she is on the top rope. Bryce Remsburg sees this and calls for the bell. This match has been thrown out.

Match Analysis: Not much of a match but more an excuse to allow the BDK to beat Sara Del Rey down as a means of revenge for what she’s been doing to them lately.

Winner (s)/Time/Match Rating/Entertainment Rating: Sara Del Rey/5:14/*1/2/**

-The beatdown continues. BDK clear the ring, so Del Rey lays down a challenge for Jakob Hammermeier to wrestle her at High Noon. She’s wants to distribute a birthday beating I guess.

Match in Five Words or Less: Sending The Fans Home Happy

Match Highlights: Here comes Jakob back again. Hallowicked gives away candy during the entrance, and children DIVE ALL OVER THE PLACE FOR IT! That was the highlight of the show right there. Hallowicked controls early. Delirious enters as Jakob exits. Mantis from behind. Delirious knees him in the gut and sends him out. Delirious dives at Hallowicked. Envoy tries to break the spell to no avail. Hallowicked beats up Jakob some more instead. Into the buckle goes Jakob. Running senton gets two. Guillotine by Jakob. Delirious chokes him. Heat segment on Hallowicked. Mantis tries breaking the spell, but no dice. Delirious grabs the stem and recognizes it. Headbutt sends Wicked down. Running boot to the head from Hallowicked and a tag to Mantis. Here comes Delirious as well. Mantis doesn’t fight Delirious but goes after Jakob instead. Wicked dives on Delirious. Double underhook suplex by Mantis. Wicked tosses Jakob over. Perfect neckbreaker. Delirous makes the save. Series of running clotheslines. Wicked with a step-up enziguri to the corner. Again, Wicked tries talking sense to him. Chop to the throat. Another enziguri. Jakob trips him and Wicked’s head hits the middle buckle. Shadows Over Heck gets two as Mantis breaks the count. Delirious taken outside. Backbreaker by Jakob gets two. Kick but Delirious blocks a Preying Mantis bomb. Mantis hits a pumphandle driver on Delirious. Now the focus is really on Jakob. Spectral Envoy take turns forearming him. Delirious takes Mantis down. Neckbreaker on Wicked. Panic attack by Delirious. Neckbreaker by Jakob for two. Rydien bomb for both BDK members. Mantis and Wicked get distracted on Delirious again. Jakob accidentally nails Delirious with a European uppercut. Mantis small packages Delirious for three.

Match Analysis: Not really a high level main event but this certainly left the crowd happy. I liked the storyline advancement with Mantis and Wicked constantly trying to break the spell over Delirious. Very easy watch but nothing special either.

Winner (s)/Time/Match Rating/Entertainment Rating: Hallowicked and UltraMantis Black/15:07/***/***

-Donst and Tursas drag Delirious to the back.

-FAVE Five

5. A lot of people worked extremely hard to even get this show on. Gavin Loudspeaker served as ring announcer and also served as commentator for much of this show. I can only imagine how worn out his voice was by the end of the night.

4.Despite being stuck in the Hartford airport on Saturday night, Sugar Dunkerton still found a way to get to Williamsport and wrestle for CHIKARA on Sunday. He participated in a great little match with F.I.S.T and earned respect despite the loss.

3. Marion Fontaine fits in with CHIKARA like peanut butter and jelly. Hope Fontaine makes many more appearances for this promotion moving forward.

2. Tim Donst was everywhere on this show, from cutting a really good promo to winning his match against Green Ant and then interjecting himself into two other matches. Oh and he commentated on the main event too. Very good work from Donst.

1. I gave an MVP to Rick Knox for officiating every match at a PWG show. Well, Bryce Remsburg did the same thing here. Major props to him refereeing nine matches in a row and taking a few bumps as well.

-The Verdict: A lot of credit has to go to CHIKARA for even getting this show together and having the amount of matches they did in barely 2 1/2 hours. This wasn't exactly a great or even good show, but storylines were at least progressed, the CHIKARA continued building toward the really big show High Noon. The most important thing is CHIKARA built and moved forward. A minor thumbs down for Maiden Flight of the Great Condor.
