Roderick Strong

Match #1: Roderick Strong vs. Kensuke Sasaki (The Tokyo Summit – 9/14/08)

They trade control of a wristlock and have a shoulder block battle. It doesn’t take long for the chops to begin flying. Strong hits a backbreaker and a fallaway slam. Sasaki hurricanranas him off the top rope and locks in a boston crab. Sasaki takes control with a superplex. Strong ducks a lariat and connects with a leg lariat. He hits a slingshot suplex and a half nelson backbreaker. Sasaki fires back with a powerslam and connects with a lariat. He judo throws Strong to the canvas and hits a single-arm powerbomb. Strong responds with a Sick Kick and a gutbuster. Another Sick Kick gets a nearfall. Sasaki connects with a lariat for a two count. He comes off the top with another lariat. Sasaki hits a northern lights bomb for the win at 12:21. This played out how I expected but still ended up being disappointing. There wasn’t a semblance of a story and while they did a good job of just trading moves, the match was just a collection of moves. **¾

Match #2: ROH World Title: Nigel McGuinness © vs. Roderick Strong (Driven 2008 – 9/19/08)

Nigel hands onto a wristlock before Strong catches him with a crossbody and a leg lariat. The champion retreats to the ropes. Nigel begins to target the left shoulder. Strong creates an opening to lay in a series of chops. He hits a backbreaker and goes up top. Nigel brings him down to the canvas shoulder-first. At ringside, Nigel uses the barricade to further damage the left shoulder and connects with a charging uppercut. He takes over until Strong leaps off the apron with a forearm smash. Strong hits a backbreaker followed by a nice pumphandle backbreaker. Nigel connects with his kick-clothesline combination in the corner. Strong responds with a gutbuster and the Sick Kick for a nearfall. Nigel slows him down with a lariat. Strong fights off the Tower of London but eats another lariat. Nigel hits the Tower of London for a nearfall. Strong finds life with a slingshot powerslam and hits a backbreaker across the top turnbuckle. Nigel lands on the canvas head-first. Strong blocks the headstand mule kick with a chop and hits another backbreaker. Nigel lariats him off the top rope and hits the Tower of London to the floor. Strong connects with the Sick Kick and hits the Gibson Driver for a nearfall. The crowd bought that one. Nigel lariats Strong off the top rope and hits the Tower of London to retain his title at 24:19. Strong attempted to overwhelm Nigel, and it worked to varying degrees throughout the match. Ultimately, Nigel used his smart work on Strong’s shoulder to withstand the flurry. The best part about this match was the crowd, who truly believed that Strong had a chance to dethrone Nigel. Strong may have received a large amount of title shots throughout his ROH career, but it worked here. ****

Match #3: Roderick Strong vs. Jay Briscoe (Stylin’ and Profilin’ – 3/13/09)

They begin with a feeling-out process on the mat. Jay snaps off a hurricanrana but Strong answers with a leg lariat. An enzuigiri in the corner by Strong turns up the intensity. A chop battle ensues. Jay connects with a dropkick but falls victim to a slingshot falcon arrow. Jay connects with a boot. Strong responds with a missile dropkick. Jay flatlines him into the middle turnbuckle and connects with a lariat. Strong escapes the Jay Driller, connects with a gamengiri, and hits a gutbuster for a nearfall. Jay sneaks in a rollup for a nearfall. They trade control of a waistlock and Strong pins Jay for the victory at 10:40. I don’t know what more you could ask for out of an opener. They held nothing back as far as stiffness was concerned and they made sure to deliver a fair share of chops to reference Ric Flair. Most importantly, they had the crowd’s attention and put together an energetic match. ***¼

Match #4: Roderick Strong vs. Katsuhiko Nakajima (Supercard of Honor IV – 4/3/09)

They trade control of a wristlock and find themselves at a stalemate. They have a chop battle but Nakajima gains control with his kicks. Strong responds with a series of suplexes along with a backbreaker. Nakajima finds an opening and goes to work on the left leg. Another strike battle ensues and Strong finishes with a backbreaker. Nakajima dazes Strong up top with a spin kick and follows with a brainbuster for a nearfall. Nakajima counters the Stronghold into an ankle lock. Strong hits another backbreaker but Nakajima answers with three superkicks. Strong hits a gutbuster, connects with the Sick Kick, and hits the Gibson Driver for the win at 9:31. For what they were going for, everything pretty much clicked and the crowd really enjoyed this exhibition. You can’t have this type of match on every show but it felt appropriate at Supercard of Honor. ***

Match #5: Roderick Strong vs. Alex Koslov (Take No Prisoners 2008 – 4/4/09)

They chain wrestle until Strong decides to just chop Koslov. He connects with a leg lariat and hits a backbreaker. Strong misses a charge from the apron and crashes into the barricade. Koslov takes over back inside the ring, locking in the Perestroika. Strong catches Koslov up top and hits a superplex. He follows with a backbreaker. Strong hits a gutbuster but Koslov answers with a superkick. Strong levels Koslov with a yakuza kick and synchs in the Stronghold for the victory at 7:40. Koslov also wrestled Bryan Danielson this weekend and I never felt as though he truly received the chance to showcase his full abilities in the ring. Sure, people like Koslov’s antics, but the matches weren’t much more than simple exhibitions. **¼

Match #6: ROH World Title: Jerry Lynn © vs. Roderick Strong (A Cut Above – 4/24/09)

They feel each other out and Strong connects with a chop. They continue to trade control. There’s a spot where Lynn doesn’t kick out of a pin attempt on time which the crowd doesn’t seem to catch onto. Strong starts working over the back. Lynn fires back with an inverted DDT and a gory special. Strong sends him to the outside but misses a charge and crashes into the barricade. Strong is busted open…badly. Lynn takes advantage and applies a boston crab in the ring. Lynn misses a guillotine leg drop but recovers with a tornado DDT from the apron to the floor. He follows with an air raid crash in the ring. Strong is a bloody mess at this point. He’s able to catch the champion with a superplex and adds a series of strikes. Strong hits a half nelson backbreaker. Lynn suplexes him into the turnbuckles. They battle on the apron, where Strong hits a back suplex. That only gets a two count. Strong hits another backbreaker and locks in the Stronghold. Lynn reaches the bottom rope. Strong hits a gutbuster and connects with the Sick Kick for a nearfall. Lynn answers with a TKO and the cradle piledriver but can’t put Strong away. Lynn hits a second cradle piledriver to retain his title at 18:21. This was a tremendous effort by Strong. The blood added a story to the match as Strong used his adrenaline to throw everything he had at Lynn down the stretch. Storyline wise, it also makes you wonder what could have happened if Strong didn’t have to cope with his blood loss. With this being Lynn’s first title defense, the result was not in doubt. However, they made the fans believe that Strong had it in him to win the belt, and that’s definitely commendable. ***¾

Match #7: Roderick Strong vs. Austin Aries (ROH on HDNet Episode 7)

Aries wins an early mat wrestling exchange and snaps off a few armdrags. He escapes a headscissors and connects with a basement dropkick. Strong keeps trying to lay in chops but Aries runs away. Strong comes off the apron with a forearm smash and sends Aries into the barricade. Aries finds an opening to connect with a double axe handle from the top rope. He takes over until Strong catches him with a dropkick. Strong lays in chops and hits his first backbreaker of the match. Aries lures him to the floor and lands the heat-seeking missile. Both men are down on the outside. Aries reenters the ring with a slingshot body press. Strong answers with another backbreaker and connects with a gamengiri. Aries dodges the Sick Kick and applies the Last Chancery. Strong blocks the IED, hits a gutbuster, and connects with the Sick Kick for a nearfall. Aries escapes a boston crab and connects with a dropkick. Strong counters a brainbuster attempt into another boston crab. Aries hurricanranas out of the Gibson Driver. Aries punts Strong and hits a brainbuster for the win at 15:07. This was an effective showcase on HDNet as to what these two could do together in the ring. The match started off a bit slow, but there were some awesome exchanges down the stretch showing their familiarity with each other from the Generation Next days. Heel Aries was one of the best parts of Pearce’s era as booker. ***¼

Match #8: Roderick Strong vs. KENTA (ROH on HDNet Episode 14)

KENTA avoids a chop while Strong dodges an early knockout kick. The strikes start flying. Strong connects with a leg lariat and they stare each other down. KENTA punts him in the chest. Hog is going crazy on commentary. KENTA unloads a series of kicks in the corner. Strong fires back with chops. He hits a backbreaker and begins working over the midsection. KENTA comes back with a powerslam and connects with a top-rope lariat. Strong hits a slingshot falcon arrow along with a backbreaker. KENTA elbows out of a gutbuster and follows with a springboard dropkick. He connects with a corner yakuza kick and a hesitation dropkick. KENTA hits a sit-out powerbomb. A busaiku knee gets a nearfall. They battle up top and Strong hits a superplex. KENTA punts him off the apron. Strong anticipates a charge and drops KENTA back-first onto the apron. Strong hits a gutbuster and connects with the Sick Kick for a nearfall. KENTA reverses the Gibson Driver into the Go 2 Sleep for the victory at 12:10. The sky would have been the limit with these two given more time and a hotter crowd. Still, they delivered a solid exhibition and packed a lot of action into twelve minutes. If you were expecting many chops and kicks, you won’t be disappointed. ***¼

Match #9: ROH World Tag Team Titles: Davey Richards and Eddie Edwards © vs. KENTA and Roderick Strong (Violent Tendencies – 6/26/09)

Richards is not exactly friends with his two opponents here. Strong and KENTA take the fight to the champions early on. Strong wins a chop exchange against Edwards and KENTA throws him into a yakuza kick from Strong on the outside. The American Wolves are able to find an opening to isolate KENTA. Richards and KENTA have one of their awesome exchanges ending with both men going for kicks and falling to the canvas. Strong hits a backbreaker on Edwards and connects with a dropkick on Richards. KENTA follows with a double springboard dropkick. He locks in an STF on Richards but Edwards breaks the hold. Edwards hits his backpack chinbreaker on KENTA. The American Wolves block stereo Go 2 Sleeps and apply stereo boston crabs. The challengers escape but KENTA falls victim to the Alarm Clock. Strong hits a gutbuster on Edwards for a two count. Richards gets caught by the Sick Kick and a hesitation dropkick. The Wolves hit an assisted Alarm Clock on Strong followed by their superkick-german suplex combination for a nearfall. KENTA hits a top-rope falcon arrow on Richards and Edwards falls victim to a doomsday busaiku knee for a nearfall. Everyone connects with kicks. Strong hits the Gibson Driver on Edwards for a nearfall. The Wolves hit a double team backcracker on Strong. Edwards synchs in the achilles lock on Strong and the Wolves retain their titles at 21:04. Everyone expected the stiffness to be at an all-time high and the sheer intensity of the match never made for dull action. The Wolves were on an absolute tear at this point and they of course worked really well with Strong and KENTA. They also gave Richards sufficient time to have individual exchanges with Strong and KENTA, highlighting his history with both men. There’s not much to complain about here. ****¼

Match #10: Roderick Strong vs. Nigel McGuinness (Final Countdown Tour: Boston – 9/25/09)

They trade control of a wristlock. Strong ducks a lariat and connects with a leg lariat. He follows with some chops and a backbreaker. Nigel comes back with a nasty forearm and goes to work on the left shoulder. There’s a funny moment where Nigel puts on a Red Sox hat and applies a headlock. Nigel connects with his headstand mule kick and the crowd chants “same old shit” at him on his farewell tour. Nice. Strong fights back with a pumphandle backbreaker. He escapes the Tower of London and hits a falcon arrow. Nigel reaches the bottom rope to escape the Stronghold. Nigel throws Strong shoulder-first into the barricade and connects with a lariat. He locks in the London Dungeon but Strong makes the ropes. Strong counters a jawbreaker lariat with the Stronghold in the ropes. Nigel blocks a dive but gets dropped back-first onto the apron. Nigel hits a sunset bomb and goes back to the London Dungeon. Strong turns the hold into a rollup for a nearfall. Strong hits a gutbuster, connects with the Sick Kick, and hits two Gibson Drivers for the win at 16:46. This wasn’t their best match together, but it was technically sound and hard-hitting. The crowd actually put a damper on the action, as they gave Nigel a hard time for his offense but then chanted “thank you Nigel” after the match. However, Strong came out of this match looking great. Still, their Driven 2008 match is leaps and bounds better than this one. ***

Match #11: Roderick Strong vs. Tyler Black (The Omega Effect – 11/14/09)

This match has Pick 6 implications, if anyone remembers that little experiment. They exchange control on the mat and give each other clean breaks. Strong connects with a leg lariat but Black responds with a spin kick. Strong fires back with a backbreaker and mixes in some chops. Black stretches him on the mat and hits a suplex. He takes over until Strong shrugs off a tornado DDT and begins working over the midsection. He finds himself in a tree of woe and Black connects with a hesitation dropkick. Strong hits a half nelson backbreaker and a falcon arrow. Black flips into Paroxysm and lands a lionsault. He attempts a springboard lariat but is met with a dropkick. Both men are down. Strong lays in a knee to the head and hits another backbreaker. He applies a boston crab. Black reaches the bottom rope. They exchange rollups to no avail. Black hits an F5. They battle on the apron and Strong drops Black back-first onto it. They trade punches in the ring. Strong connects with a gamengiri but Black roars back with a superkick. Both men are down once again. Black hit God’s Last Gift for a nearfall. Strong answers with a torture rack backbreaker and the Sick Kick for a two count. The time limit expires at 20:00 and the match is ruled a draw. After their amazing encounter in the finals of Survival of the Fittest, the twenty-minute draw made sense as it’s believable that they would need more than twenty minutes to determine a winner. These two have great chemistry together and felt evenly-matched, as seen in this match. ***¾

Match #12: Roderick Strong vs. Bryan Danielson (ROH on HDNet Episode 34)

They have a nice exchange out of a knucklelock and Strong connects with a dropkick. Danielson hangs onto an armbar but Strong eventually punishes him with a backbreaker. Strong hits another backbreaker and begins working over Danielson’s back. The intensity begins to heighten when Danielson wins a strike exchange with various kicks in the corner. He connects with a running clothesline and locks in a surfboard. Strong fires back with an enzuigiri and a uranagi backbreaker. He follows with a pumphandle backbreaker. Danielson attempts a missile dropkick but finds himself in a boston crab. He hurricanranas out of the Gibson Driver and synchs in a triangle choke. Danielson dropkicks Strong off the apron and baseball slides him into the front row. He follows out with his dive into the crowd. Back in, Danielson connects with a missile dropkick. Strong reapplies the boston crab but Danielson begins stomping his head in. Danielson locks in a triangle choke but Strong somehow counters into a backbreaker. Strong hits a torture rack backbreaker for a nearfall. Danielson hits a back superplex and applies Cattle Mutilation. Strong escapes and hits the Gibson Driver for a two count. Strong hits a middle-rope gutbuster and connects with the Sick Kick for the victory at 18:08. These two have had some phenomenal matches over the years and this was a nice final chapter for them. They packed a lot of action into eighteen minutes and had a great series of reversals down the stretch. Strong stuck to his plan of working over the back and his key to victory was being able to find ways to escape Danielson’s various submissions. This was a joy to watch and differentiated itself from some of their longer encounters. ****

Match #13: Roderick Strong vs. Kenny Omega (Reverse the Curse – 12/5/09)

They start with some nice exchanges where neither man can get a definitive advantage. Strong connects with his first chop but Omega responds with a hurricanrana. Strong hits a leg lariat along with a suplex. Omega escapes a slingshot falcon arrow and connects with a sliding dropkick. He controls until Strong catches him coming off the top with a dropkick. Strong hits a powerslam along with a backbreaker. Omega answers with the Kotaro Krusher. He kicks Strong off the apron and follows out with a moonsault. Back in, Omega connects with a springboard dropkick and hits a dragon suplex. He adds Blue Destiny but falls victim to a backbreaker. Strong locks in the Stronghold but Omega makes the ropes. Omega counters another Stronghold into a small package for a nearfall. Strong hits another backbreaker but Omega responds with a reverse hurricanrana. They trade strikes and Strong connects with a yakuza kick for a nearfall. Strong hits a gutbuster followed by the Gibson Driver for the victory at 20:26. This match deserved to be allotted twenty minutes. However, for what they were going for, I think that a shorter duration would have helped. They kept the match pretty back and forth, to the point where they weren’t getting much response from the crowd. Even down the stretch, there wasn’t as much suspense as you’d expect. The good news is that these two are talented enough to trade moves for twenty minutes and it still be entertaining to watch. ***

Match #14: Roderick Strong vs. Davey Richards (ROH on HDNet Episode 40)

They begin with some chain wrestling as the crowd seems pretty divided. They trade control of a bow and arrow and find themselves at a stalemate. Strong connects with a leg lariat and they brawl around ringside. Strong gets booted into the front row and Richards takes over after a DDT onto the floor. Strong dazes him on the top rope with a kick and hits a superplex. They charge at each other with strikes. Strong hits a falcon arrow and connects with a dropkick. Richards responds with his handspring enzuigiri and a missile dropkick. He reverses a half nelson backbreaker into a crucifix for a two count. They both try rollups to no avail. They both attempt clotheslines and fall to the canvas. Richards lays in kawada kicks and throws a knockout kick. He hits a german suplex and attempts a DR Driver on the apron. Strong drops him back-first across the apron. Richards blocks the Sick Kick and hits an overhead suplex. Strong lands the Sick Kick on his second attempt for a nearfall. Strong hits another backbreaker followed by the Gibson Driver for the win at 16:03. As opposed to some of their longer matches, sixteen minutes felt right here and they delivered a solid main event. Still, after everything that came before the final flurry from Strong, the finish seemed out of nowhere and the crowd reacted accordingly. I’ve probably been soured on this matchup given how many times they’ve wrestled each other lately, so you may enjoy this contest more than me. ***¼

Match #15: Roderick Strong vs. Brian Kendrick (8th Anniversary Show – 2/13/10)

They trade control of a wristlock and Strong finds an opening to lay in a few chops. Strong hits a back suplex along with a backbreaker. He follows with a fallaway slam, sending Kendrick to the floor. Kendrick drop toe holds Strong into the barricade and takes control in the ring. Strong sends him off the top rope with a chop and comes off the apron with a clothesline. Back in, Strong elevates Kendrick into a backbreaker. Kendrick responds with a leg lariat and a tornado DDT. He lands a top-rope splash for a nearfall. Strong hits a torture rack backbreaker and connects with the Sick Kick. Strong adds the Gibson Driver for the victory at 10:25. This was a solid showing from Kendrick and the ROH fans of course welcomed him with open arms. Kendrick was much more grounded here than I’ve seen him in previous compilations, but this still made for an energetic opener. ***

Match #16: Roderick Strong and Tyler Black vs. Austin Aries and Kenny King (ROH on HDNet Episode 49)

Strong shrugs off a wristlock from King and catches him with a leg lariat. Black snaps off a few armdrags on King. Despite not getting along, Strong and King are dominant early on. Of course, Aries has been dodging them the entire time. Aries finally enters the ring but retreats after one chop from Strong. King backs Strong into his corner, allowing Aries to work over Strong. Strong fights off both of his opponents with various strikes and makes the tag. Black hits a flatliner-inverted DDT combination. He lays out King with a TKO and lands a standing shooting star press. Black lands a dive to the floor onto Aries. Strong connects with the Sick Kick on King for a nearfall. Black accidentally superkicks Strong. King pins Strong for the win at 12:11. If you didn’t see that finish coming, well, shame on you. There wasn’t much of a finishing stretch here and the eventual result felt inevitable. This kind of tired booking turned me away from the HDNet show for awhile. **½

Match #17: Roderick Strong vs. Colt Cabana (Hate: Chapter II – 7/23/10)

Cabana is very weary of Strong’s chops early on. Cabana screams like a girl at one point when attempting to get away from Strong. They exchange control on the mat. A distraction from Truth Martini allows Strong to connect with a basement dropkick. He takes control until Cabana fires back with a bionic elbow. Cabana hits the flying asshole and follows with a running clothesline. Strong escapes a quick rollup and connects with a boot to the face. He follows with an enzuigiri and a kick that busts open Cabana’s mouth. Strong applies a boston crab but Cabana turns the hold into a rollup for a nearfall. They battle up top and Cabana drops Strong midsection-first across the top turnbuckle. Strong breaks free of the Billy Goat’s Curse. Martini hits Cabana with the Book of Truth. Strong hits a gutbuster and connects with the Sick Kick for the victory at 14:21. This felt very average for these two. One of Strong’s kicks legitimately busted open Cabana and the match felt kind of clunky after that point. **¾

Match #18: Roderick Strong vs. Austin Aries (Salvation – 7/24/10)

Aries escapes a headscissors but Strong catches him with a dropkick. Strong connects with a chop in the corner and Aries retreats to the outside. They exchange control of a wristlock and Strong connects with a series of chops. Truth Martini gets involved and Todd Sinclair ejects him. Strong is confused. Aries lands the heat-seeking missile to the floor and hits a bulldog in the ring. He takes control until Strong absolutely levels him with a knee to the face. Strong hits a powerslam. Aries dodges a gutbuster and hits a neckbreaker in the ropes. He comes off the top with a missile dropkick. Strong blocks the IED and connects with an enzuigiri. He hits a gutbuster for a nearfall. Aries hurricanranas out of the Gibson Driver and armdrags Strong into the turnbuckles. Aries connects with the IED for a two count. Strong counters the Last Chancery into a rollup for a nearfall. They exchange chops and Aries hits a chinbreaker. Strong catches Aries with a backbreaker across the top turnbuckle. Aries escapes the boston crab but falls victim to a half nelson backbreaker. He counters a second backbreaker with a crucifix bomb. Punt to the head. Strong counters a brainbuster into the orange crush backbreaker and connects with the Sick Kick for the win at 17:06. The exchanges in the final few minutes were breathtaking. They know each other extremely well and all of the counters had the crowd on the edge of their seats. Even with the awkward heel/face dynamic, everyone looked past it and just became invested in the action. That’s the sign of a standout match. ***½

Match #19: Roderick Strong vs. Christopher Daniels (ROH on HDNet Episode 67)

After neither man can gain the advantage on the mat, Daniels hits a neckbreaker. He catches Strong with a back suplex and lands a slingshot moonsault. Strong blocks a charge and hits a backbreaker. He works over the midsection until Daniels is able to mount some offense with a series of strikes. Daniels hits an STO. They battle on the apron and Strong gets sent to the floor. Daniels follows out with a slingshot moonsault. A distraction by Truth Martini allows Strong to drop Daniels back-first across the apron. In the ring, Strong hits a half nelson backbreaker. Daniels fights off the Stronghold and applies the koji clutch. Strong reaches the bottom rope. Daniels hits a death valley driver. A frantic sequence ends with Martini hitting Daniels with the Book of Truth. Strong connects with the Sick Kick for the victory at 14:24. They would go on to have a much better match once Strong won the ROH World Title. Still, Daniels gave Strong a match here that was very different than anything else on this compilation. As Strong said in his thoughts after the match, Daniels only seems to get better with time. ***

Match #20: ROH World Title: No Disqualification: Tyler Black © vs. Roderick Strong (Glory By Honor IX – 9/11/10
)
Terry Funk is the ringside enforcer for some reason. Black drops Strong midsection-first across the apron and stares down Funk. They trade pin attempts and Black connects with a dropkick. Black rolls through a pin attempt and hits a back suplex. He takes over until Strong blocks a charge and connects with a knee strike to the face. Strong hits a falcon arrow, which Jim Cornette calls “a vertical suplex into a michinoku driver” on commentary. He follows with a uranagi but falls victim to a gutbuster. Black applies an STF to immense heat from the crowd. Black connects with an enzuigiri and hits a superplex. Strong immediately answers with his orange crush backbreaker for a nearfall. Strong hits a gutbuster of his own but inadvertently Sick Kicks Todd Sinclair. Black superkicks Strong as Funk enters the ring. Funk throws Sinclair to the outside and reveals a referee shirt underneath his jacket. Black hits God’s Last Gift for a nearfall. He connects with a flying double stomp but Strong immediately reverses into a boston crab. Black turns the hold into a rollup for a nearfall. The House of Truth run out but Funk fights them off. Black hits two bucklebombs, connects with a superkick, and connects with two more superkicks. Strong avoids a phoenix splash and hits a torture rack backbreaker. Strong hits a gutbuster and connects with the Sick Kick to become the new ROH World Champion at 15:04. Admittedly, I am not the biggest fan of this match. The no disqualification stipulation was unnecessary. Funk’s involvement was unnecessary. They tried to fit a thirty-minute match into half the time. It’s clear that Strong loves Ring of Honor and is willing to fill any role. Yet I would’ve liked to have seen Strong win the title in better circumstances. It’s been said before, but this match was just as much about Black leaving than it was about Strong finally achieving his dream. ***

Overall
: Roderick Strong: Destiny Fulfilled tells the story of a two-year long journey to the ROH World Title. Any fan of Strong who doesn’t own most of these matches should be interested in this compilation. There are a wide variety of opponents on this set and none of the matches feel repetitive. It’s been said that Strong is the best ROH World Title challenger and this compilation lends some evidence for that claim. Although the match quality drops slightly towards the end of the second disc and Strong’s eventual title win was underwhelming, this compilation delivers exactly what it promises with some added insight from Strong in between matches. I think this set is directed more towards diehard fans of Strong, but I can give it a general recommendation.
