Winner Takes All

Winner Takes All on December 15th, 2012. Your hosts are Joe Dombrowski and J. Worthington Farnsworth.

Opening Match: Matt Segaris and Bronco McBride vs. Aiden Veil and Jordan Lennox

The Blue Collar Slaughterhouse attempt a pre-match attack but get caught by stereo enzuigiris. Veil and Lennox ascend the top rope but the BCS knock them down to the canvas. Lennox is isolated until he mule kicks Segaris and makes the tag. Veil lands a standing moonsault onto McBride but the BCS lay him out with a double team spinebuster. Veil hits a rolling neckbreaker on McBride and Lennox follows with a top-rope splash for the win at 5:08. Pretty much an inconsequential opener in that the action never received the time to develop and this was mainly here to setup the post-match angle. *½

John McChesney makes his way to the ring after the match. He talks about recruiting Veil and Lennox into Team Big League. James Nutter and Joseph Brooks enter through the crowd and attack Veil and Lennox. McChesney announces that Nutter and Brooks have joined Team Big League.

Match #2: Alex Reynolds vs. Mike Rayne

Rayne escapes a wristlock and gives Reynolds the middle finger. Rayne connects with a dropkick and hits a powerslam. He follows with a gamengiri but Reynolds hot shots him across the top rope. Reynolds takes control until Rayne sneaks in a quick rollup to no avail. Rayne hits a running powerslam. Reynolds escapes the Doppler Effect and rolls up Rayne while holding his tights for a nearfall. Reynolds hits a gutbuster and goes up top. He attempts a moonsault but Rayne catches him with an ace crusher in mid-air for the victory at 7:31. Rayne is developing rather well with a little undefeated streak. This match showed his resourcefulness and Reynolds was a solid opponent for him. As commentary eluded to after the match, it would be nice to see Rayne move up the card. **

Match #3: IWC Tag Team Titles: Dennis Gregory, Jimmy Vegas, and Super Hentai © vs. Colin Delaney and Keith Haught

Gregory’s reaction to Haught’s entrance is hilarious. Apparently, all three of the Founding Fathers will be taking part in this match, effectively making this a handicapped match. Delaney snaps off a headscissors on Hentai. Gregory shrugs off a headscissors but gets taken down by Haught. Delaney and Haught catch Gregory with stereo shoulder tackles. Gregory spears Haught while Vegas pulls Delaney to the floor. The Founding Fathers work over Haught until he connects with a knockout kick on Hentai and makes the tag. Delaney cleans house with a series of clotheslines. Vegas elevates Delaney into a military press and boots Haught in the face. Delaney low bridges Vegas to the floor and follows out with a dive. Haught lands a top-rope splash onto Gregory for a nearfall. Hentai crotches Delaney on the middle rope but runs into a spinebuster from Haught. Gregory and Vegas hit a superkick-full nelson slam combination on Haught and the Founding Fathers retain their titles at 10:58. Haught looked much better here than he did in previous appearances and this match surprised me. The Founding Fathers using all three of its members should be addressed, but they work well together and the match found a way to be competitive yet believable. **¾

Facade makes his way to the ring with the Super Indy Title. He says that his first IWC show was Super Indy IV and it inspired him to become apart of the promotion. His year as Super Indy Champion was the best year of his career. Facade forfeits the Super Indy Title but promises that he’ll be back for both the IWC World Heavyweight Title and the Super Indy Title. He thanks the fans and Norm Connors comes out to congratulate him on his success in the past year. Norm grabs the microphone and announces that John McChesney’s match against Tommy Dreamer will be no disqualification…

Match #4: No Disqualification: John McChesney vs. Tommy Dreamer
Dreamer gets the better of some chain wrestling early on. McChesney connects with a back elbow in the corner but gets hip tossed across the ring. Dreamer blocks a crossbody attempt and hits a fallaway slam. He clotheslines McChesney to the floor and connects with a baseball slide. Dreamer hits McChesney across the back with a dry erase board. He throws a garbage can at McChesney’s head and utilizes a ring bell. Dreamer throws him over the guardrail and into the third row. A distraction by James Nutter and Joseph Brooks allows McChesney to dropkick Dreamer off the apron. The referee ejects Nutter and Brooks. McChesney takes over in the ring. Dreamer avoids a middle-rope leg drop and connects with a series of clotheslines. He hits a rydeen bomb and brings a chair into the ring. McChesney drop toe holds him into the propped chair. Dreamer traps McChesney in a tree of woe and dropkicks a chair into his face. McChesney escapes a DDT by throwing Dreamer onto the chair. Dreamer blocks a superkick and hits a DDT for a nearfall. McChesney answers with a backcracker but Dreamer won’t stay down. McChesney spends too much time mocking ECW and Dreamer hits a death valley driver onto a chair for the win at 15:02. This match played out exactly how I expected and that’s not a bad thing at all. Dreamer was brought in to teach McChesney a lesson, and the first five minutes of this contest reflected that. There were some believable nearfalls down the stretch and the crowd helped the action with their enthusiasm. Finally, I think the finish really put this match over, as McChesney’s arrogance ultimately cost him the match. Good stuff all around. ***

After the match, Dreamer talks about his relationship with Norm Connors and puts over IWC. He calls McChesney a great athlete and explains to the crowd how much dedication McChesney has for professional wrestling. Dreamer tells McChesney that he doesn’t understand why he has to be a jerk to the fans. McChesney has everything it takes to be a champion and Dreamer wants to see that drive. Dreamer thanks the crowd and heads to the back.

Match #5: Marshall Gambino, Chest Flexor, and Andrew Palace vs. Justin Idol, Matt Cannon, and Jon Bolen

If Idol’s team loses this match, Idol will be fired from IWC and John McChesney will receive a shot at the IWC World Heavyweight Title. Idol connects with a basement dropkick on Palace and Bolen comes off the middle rope with a headbutt. Cannon hits a delayed vertical suplex on Palace. Flexor interjects himself from the apron, allowing Team Big League to isolate Idol. He connects with two consecutive enzuigiris on Marshall and makes the tag. Bolen cleans house with clotheslines and hits a spinebuster on Marshall. He lays out Flexor with the Meltdown but misses a diving headbutt. Marshall and Flexor begin arguing. Marshall punches Flexor and walks away. Bolen spears Flexor. Cannon hits a splash mountain variant on Flexor for the victory at 8:18. This was a fun post-intermission match to give Idol another win and set the stage for Marshall leaving Team Big League. Bolen provided some needed energy and I’d like to see him around IWC more often. **¼

Chuck Roberts makes his way to the ring. He thanks the crowd for coming out and talks about how lucky he is to be promoting IWC. Roberts says that there is no doubt IWC will be alive in 2013. He talks about giving Jimmy DeMarco another chance to redeem himself with the fans. DeMarco comes out and apologizes for the way he left seven months ago. Norm Connors suddenly yells from the back of the building that Facade has been hurt. Roberts offers to take Facade to the hospital and gives Norm control of the show.

Match #6: Dalton Castle vs. Chuck Taylor

The Swamp Monster is in attendance tonight. They exchange holds early on with a lot of screaming from Taylor. Castle hits an atomic drop and tries multiple pin attempts. Taylor eventually gets sick of kicking out, so he sends the Swamp Monster into the ring. Castle and the Swamp Monster wrestle to a stalemate and begin dancing. Taylor attacks Castle from behind and yells at the Swamp Monster. He takes control until Castle hits a bulldog. Taylor fires back with Sole Food but runs into a pumphandle suplex. Castle catches Taylor in mid-air but gets planted with a tornado DDT. Taylor grabs the ring bell. While the referee takes the ring bell away, Taylor grabs a chair. The Swamp Monster stops Taylor from using the chair. The Swamp Monster inadvertently headscissors Castle. That gets a nearfall. Taylor tries to use powder but it backfires. Castle hits a dead-lift german suplex for the win at 12:35. This match had all of the fun that you’d expect from these two. The crowd wasn’t into the action as much as I expected, but commentary did an excellent job playing along and Castle came away with a big win to boot. The Swamp Monster was also a nice added bonus. ***

Match #7: IWC World Heavyweight Title and IWC Super Indy Title: Logan Shulo © vs. Sami Callihan

Shulo is the current World Heavyweight Champion while the Super Indy Title is vacant after Facade’s injury. The winner of this match will receive both titles. Jimmy DeMarco is the special guest referee. Callihan charges before the opening bell with a yakuza kick. He hits an exploder but Shulo fires back with a shoulder-capture suplex. They retreat into opposite corners and regroup. Shulo kicks away an early stretch muffler attempt. Callihan lariats him off the apron and lands a dive to the floor. They brawl around ringside and Callihan slams Shulo onto a piece of the guardrail. They trade loud chops and Callihan inadvertently chops the ringpost. Shulo drops him back-first across the apron three times. In the ring, Shulo takes control, targeting the back. Callihan can’t pull off a sunset bomb, so he superkicks Shulo’s leg. Callihan now takes over and attacks the left leg. After suffering two facewash kicks, Shulo blocks a third with a lariat. They battle up top and Callihan finds himself in a tree of woe. Shulo connects with a flying double stomp and covers. The timekeeper jumps the gun with the bell. DeMarco waves him off and says that it was a two count. Callihan hits a dragon screw leg whip and locks in a figure four. They exchange strikes once again. Shulo hits his electric chair powerbomb for a nearfall. Callihan plays dead and hits a dead-lift saito suplex out of nowhere. He follows with a sit-out powerbomb and transitions into the stretch muffler. Callihan reverses a second electric chair powerbomb attempt into a rollup for a two count. Shulo withstands another burst of offense from Callihan and hits a tombstone to become the new Super Indy Champion and to retain the World Heavyweight Title at 17:10. I’ve said it before, but Shulo is quietly having a terrific reign as champion. Callihan has succeeded in IWC thus far by being the aggressor during his matches. Shulo presented a different type of challenge to Callihan, so he had to become more resourceful. Callihan did his best to counter the flying double stomp and was actually able to counter the electric chair powerbomb, causing Shulo to go outside the box with a tombstone. This was just a great example of human chess without any shenanigans and a clean finish. You can’t ask for much more than that to end the year. ***¾

Norm Connors comes out to congratulate Shulo. Team Big League interrupts, with John McChesney in his old ring jacket. Norm suddenly low blows Shulo and DeMarco lays out Shulo with the C4. Norm says that Tommy Dreamer was right – McChesney does have what it takes to be champion…

Match #8: IWC World Heavyweight Title: Logan Shulo © vs. John McChesney
Jimmy Demarco is the special referee once again. McChesney quickly covers Shulo but he kicks out! McChesney connects with a superkick to become the new IWC World Heavyweight Champion in twenty seconds. Shulo is still the Super Indy Champion. Norm announces that based on the contract that Chuck Roberts signed when he bought IWC, it gave Norm control of the promotion back on 12/12/12. So Norm owns IWC again, McChesney is the new world heavyweight champion, and DeMarco might be back with the promotion. IWC usually likes to end the year in ways like this. Everything made sense, though, and there is some genuine intrigue heading into 2013.
