-Taped from Berwyn, Illinois

-Your hosts are Phil Colvin and Derek St. Holmes, Dave Prazak for the Shimmer multi-woman match

-Dan Lawrence vs. Davey Vega

Match in Five Words or Less: The Point?

Match Summary: Lawrence with a headlock takeover right away. They go to the corner. Lawrence chops instead of breaking clean. Vega comes back with a chop. Another chop. Lawrence in another corner for you guessed it, a chop. Vega sends Lawrence down with… a chop. Belly suplex. Lawrence heads outside. Lawrence misses an elbow drop. Vega comes in with a slingshot double stomp. Jawbreaker by Lawrence. Vega puts his head down. Boot from Lawrence. Neckbreaker across his knee. Snapmare by Lawrence. Chinlock by Lawrence. Vega shoots some elbows. Knee by Lawrence once again. Choking leads to the face wash. Sliding dropkick misses. Vega with a back elbow. Clothesline. Forearms. Lawrence misses a clothesline. Release German suplex sends Lawrence on his head. Running knees into the corner. Whip across. Vega up and over. Guillotine. Vega climbs up but Lawrence takes him down. Battle on the top rope. Headbutt by Vega. Cross body. Lawrence rolls over and grabs the tights for the win.

Match Analysis: Ever since Mat Fitchett got hurt, Vega’s AAW career has literally gone nowhere. He’s been losing these borderline pointless undercard matches. There wasn’t anything bad about this match per se, but I’d love to see both guys be sent on some sort of path. A heel turn for Lawrence is an interesting direction, but he needs a feud to really bring it home. Vega is a fine young talent, and all these losses do nothing but bury him.

Winner (s)/Time/Rating: Dan Lawrence/4:34/*

-Vega shoves Lawrence instead of shaking his hand.

-Arnold Pressly talks about The Moondogs getting an opportunity on the main show. Silas Young is unhappy about this promo even taking place and beats up all three of them. He’s angry about not getting his own time to talk. Young talks about Davey Richards having a title shot at Windy City Classic VII. By winning, Young will get the shot instead. Young doesn’t think Richards wrestling all over the place means anything. He wants the money that comes with the main event spot and plans on embarrassing him.

-Kyle O’Reilly vs. Junthai Miller

Match in Five Words or Less: Miller Lite

Match Summary: Code of honor followed before the match. Leg kick by O’Reilly. Arm work from Miller. O’Reilly counters into a chancery. To the arm goes O’Reilly. Miller rolls away. Kick off by O’Reilly. Headlock by Miller. Shoulder tackle. Roll-up and a bridge gets two. O’Reilly into a roll-up of his own. Each man misses some kicks. O’Reilly passes on a test of strength and delivers a kick. Forearm exchange. Miller with backfists and a spin kick. Flying knee and a punt kick by O’Reilly. Miller up and over out of the corner. O’Reilly flatlined into the corner. Miller hits a springboard elbow. Running knee drop. Series of kicks by Miller. O’Reilly sent into the top turnbuckle. O’Reilly moves out of the way. Leg kicks. Leaping knee strike. Combination of kicks hits for O’Reilly. Back to the arm. Butterfly suplex right into the cross armbreaker. Miller reaches the bottom rope. Strike exchange. Knee from Miller. O’Reilly counters with one of his own. Double round kicks. Both men down. Miller with a kick out of the corner. O’Reilly driven into the middle turnbuckle. Dragon suplex countered. Shoulder tackle from the outside. Slingshot bulldog for Miller. Foot plants O’Reilly on his head. 1-2-NO! Boot from O’Reilly. Miller hits one of his own. To the kicks. Spin kick by O’Reilly. Back drop driver. 1-2-NO! Running forearm. Miller misses a kick. Sick kick by O’Reilly. Tornado DDT. Brainbuster. 1-2-3!

Match Analysis: It’s a shame that this match couldn’t get a few more minutes to really develop into a really solid midcard level match. This is something AAW definitely needs to work on moving into 2013. It’s also unfortunate that these two have done a whole lot of losing lately because neither could afford to really take a loss without damaging some of their credibility. There is value to both men moving forward because they had a good match in the time given.

Winner (s)/Time/Rating: Kyle O’Reilly/8:48/**3/4

-Scarlet isn’t happy with Shane Hollister. She isn’t happy with Colt Cabana and says comedy is the lowest form of entertainment. If there’s one thing I believe in based on my years as a fan, it’s that women domineering over men doesn’t work to get them over as heels. Chris Jericho in 2002. Justin Credible in 2000. Doesn’t work. I want Hollister to succeed, but I think there is a chance Scarlett holds him back.

-Shane Hollister vs. ACH

Match in Five Words or Less: They Do It Again

Match Summary: Hollister charges and gets double stomped down. Forearm and a chop from ACH. Dropkick. Chop and elbows in the corner. Running clothesline takes ACH out of the ring. Dive misses. Crane knocked off. Basement dropkick for Hollister. Dive on Crane. Hollister accidentally dives on Crane. ACH ends the diving fun with one more on both men. Back in the ring. Acecrusher countered. O’Connor roll blocked. ACH connects on the acecrusher. 1-2-NO! Hollister blocks a whip. Clothesline from ACH. Knee and punt. Superkick by Hollister leads to a two count. Powerbomb countered into a roll-up by ACH. They each connect on a forearm. Again they collisde. Slap and forearm by ACH. Spin kick by Hollister. Series of forearms to the head. Kick by ACH. Kick to the back of the head. Another rolling forearm. Tiger driver into the cover for two. ACH goes for the implant DDT. Bicycle kick instead. Kick by Hollister. Release facebuster off the powerbomb position. Shining wizard. 1-2-NO! ACH takedown. Cloverleaf turned into a small package. ACH with a cloverleaf giant swing. He spins into the hold. Hollister grabs the bottom rope. Hollister almost hits the referee. Roll-up for two. Series of kicks. ACH climbs to the middle rope. Crane goes to the apron. Scarlett shoves him. God’s Last Gift and Hollister wins.

Match Analysis: Finish aside, this is exactly what I want out of my wrestling in 2012 and beyond. Great action from these two and I think these guys have one more truly great match in them. In order for Hollister to truly elevate himself into the main event position, he’s got to put in the sort of performances that Silas Young and Michael Elgin were putting in before they won the AAW title. Having great performances will get him over one way or the other as a heel despite the screwjob finish.

Winner (s)/Time/Rating: Shane Hollister/13:16/***1/4

-Scarlet gets on the microphone again. She tells Hollister to fix the other problem. I can only assume this means Colt Cabana. Hollister wants a match with Cabana at the next show. Unfortunately no Cabana tonight. Cabana is live from the studio… Australia. He accepts the match. If he wins, he wants Scarlet for a full week.

-Tweek Phoenix, Lamar Titan, and Keith Walker (w/Nikki and Kevin Harvey) vs. Zero Gravity (Bret Gakiya and CJ Esparza) and Isaias Velazquez

Match in Five Words or Less: Keep’em Winning

Match Summary: Phoenix goes to work with Esparza. Forearms in the corner. Back elbow by Esparza. DDT countered. Kick and back elbow by Phoenix. Esparza misses a clothesline. Phoenix shoves him in the corner. ZG goes to work and hits a nice double dropkick. More double teams. Shooting star elbow by Esparza. Phoenix tags Titan. Drop toe hold and armbar by Esparza. Titan out of the babyface corner. Gakiya with a hammerlock and into the headlock. Double hip toss by ZG. Velazquez with a knee to the arm by Titan. O’Connor roll blocked. Spinning armdrag by Velazquez. Snap rana. Titan lifts him out of the corner. Another armdrag by Velazquez. Headscissors. Dropkick. Phoenix back in. Lungblower on Phoenix and Titan. Gakiya to the top rope. Esparza with a dive. Gakiya follows suit. Walker becomes involved. Velazquez choked over the top rope onto everyone else. Heels work on Velazquez. Gakiya rolls in and clears the apron. Esparza helps Gakiya dropkick Walker. Harvey holds Walker back. Springboard by Gakiya on Phoenix. Back kick on Titan. Enziguri by Gakiya. Flippy Cup broken up by Phoenix. Nikki pulls the middle rope down. Gakiya with kicks on Phoenix. Dropkick. Dropkick on Walker. Harvey continues holding Walker back. Spinning DDT by Velazquez by Phoenix… I think. Gakiya hits an assisted moonsault. Walker sends Esparza into Walker. Samoan drop hits on Esparza. He catches Gakiya and suplexes him down. Velazquez with kicks. Lariat. Titan with the uranagi across his knees. Harvey’s group wins again.

Match Analysis: Okay little match. Nothing too special but at least the right team won. They’re not being forced down on our throats and are slowly being built up. I firmly believe the only way Harvey’s group truly gets over is with a huge main event star joining, someone already on the roster. Not sure who it could be but the group as presently constructed can’t be more than midcard level guys. I’d love to see Titan be springboarded from this somehow since he’s shown a lot of potential and is being protected in these tag matches.

Winner (s)/Time/Rating: Tweek Phoenix, Lamar Titan, and Keith Walker/8:45/**1/4

-Heels continue beating ZG and Velazquez down. Phoenix takes his boot off. Joey Eastman runs out. Darin Corbin and Marion Fontaine clear the ring with chairs. Big pop for the returning Eastman. I’m sure the zubaz pants help.

-Michael Elgin says Sami Callihan is his friend, but the belts he holds mean something to him. He says Callihan can’t beat him because of how hard and long he’s worked. Elgin uses the old House of Truth catchphrase.

Kellie Skater vs. Christina Von Eerie vs. Nicole Matthews vs. Athena

Match in Five Words or Less: Shimmer Showcase

Match Summary: Crowd is pretty clearly for Athena in this match. Von Eerie and Skater do some push-ups. Von Eerie with a kick and an immediate tag to Matthews. Boot by Matthews. Forearm exchange. Kick and and enziguri by Von Eerie. Flatliner hits and a two count. Release northern lights suplex. Skater with a bling tag on Von Eerie. Athena enters. Forearm in the corner. Snapmare. Skater with an armdrag. Athena with a springboard cross body. Boot from Skater. Forearm to the back. Matthews with a boot to the side of Athena. Whip to the corner and a charging forearm. Snapmare and kick to the back. Skater with knees. Snapmare and kick. Clothesline. Matthews with a boot and choking along the middle rope. Snap suplex. Snap suplex by Skater. Kick combination and a running boot. Von Eerie blind tags and also goes to work on Athena. Whip across. Athena gets dropped on the top turnbuckle. Forearm exchange. Boot and headbutt by Von Eerie. Backfist hits. Enziguri misses. Athena hits an enziguri of her own. Matthews comes in. To the corner. Skater sunset flips both women. Chop by Von Eerie misses. 137. 1-2-NO! Matthews with back kick and running boot. O-FACE! Athena wins.

Match Analysis: Not really long enough to showcase these girls to the best of their abilities but a solid match given the time and the individuals involved. Athena is a spectacular performer every time she steps in the ring, and I hope bigger promotions can find a spot for her given her athleticism and energy in the ring.

Winner (s)/Time/Rating: Athena/6:51/**1/2

Saraya Knight tells us who she is, the Shimmer champion and the number one wrestler in the circuit. She says MsChif is not capable of taking the belt from her. She’s ready and not scared of anyone.

-Silas Young (w/Val Malone) vs. Davey Richards

Match in Five Words or Less: Battle Of The Best

Match Summary: Richards has a title shot already for Windy City Classic, but he’s essentially defending that title match here against Young. Cheap shot taken by Young and he quickly exits the ring. Right hand back in the ring. Richards charges. Young cockily exits. Right hand misses. Richards with a spin kick before telling him to bring it. Headlock by Richards. Shoulder block. O’Connor roll. Richards transitions into the rocking chair. Into the roll-up for two. Young locks a rocking chair now. Roll-up for his two. Young pats himself on the back in a great moment. Takedown by Richards. Snapmare into a chinlock. Young counters into a hammerlock. Front facelock. Into the chancery. Hard series of counters. Wow. Richards hits a glancing kick. Snapmare into a hammerlock. Richards goes back to the headbutts. Superplex. Strike exchange. Forearms from Young. Overhead throw by Richards. Enziguri as Young comes on the apron. Running punt. Back in the ring goes Richards. Tope suicida. Dropkick off the top rope. Young with a boot. Elbows by Young. Young catches the leg but gets hit with an enziguri. Exploder for Richards. Running forearm. Backbreaker/clothesline combination. 1-2-NO! Sunset flip. Richards with a leaping double stomp. Alarm clock caught into a fishermen’s buster. 1-2-NO! Dominator by Young. 1-2-NO! Stock Lock. Richards with a kick to the head. Release German suplex. Young no sells. LARIAT! 1-2-NO! Double stomp misses. Firemen’s carry into the Nagasaki Roll. Pee Gee Waja Plunge but Richards gets his knees up. Young goes for a tombstone piledriver. Richards reverses and hits one of his own. 1-2-NO! Double stomp. 1-2-NO! Ankle lock. Malone punches Richards on the counter. Series of roll-ups. Richards on top and gets three.

Match Analysis: Always good when a match you’ve been looking forward to gets the time it needs to develop and then delivers. Very good back and forth as both men seemed to be trying to top each other. Fun mat work in the beginning led to both men dropping bombs and putting together some incredible counters to typically used maneuvers from both men.  An underrated classic to be sure and something every wrestling fan should check out.

Winner (s)/Time/Rating: Davey Richards/22:21/****

-Richards gives the usual speech.

-Northstache Express (Darin Corbin and Marion Fontaine w/Joey Eastman) vs. Marcus Crane and Austin Mannix

Match in Five Words or Less: Meh

Match Summary: Mannix and Crane attack right away. Mannix with a clothesline on Fontaine. Crane with an armmare. Slingblade hits for Crane. Kick to the midsection. Fontaine is impressed with the sound. Kick of his own but not nearly as loud. Leg kicks. Leaping leg lariat connects across the head. Corbin in. Another kick from Fontaine. More kicks in the corner. Mannix with a double clothesline. Crane tags Mannix legally. Series of forearms on Corbin. Jumping forearm and kick to the corner. Crane tags Mannix in blindly. Corbin with the worm and tag to Fontaine. Flying double chops and a leg lariat to the back. Crane reverse whip. Fontaine with a boot out of the corner. Tea bag sort of hits. Mannix breaks the count and sends Corbin off the apron. Mannix kicks Fontaine. Corbin pulls his partner down. Eastman with a kick and stunner to Mannix. Fontaine with a superkick. Crane in. Left hand and kick to the head. Unprettier/double stomp by the Northstache Express. Frog splash by Fontaine leads to the three count.

Match Analysis:  Mannix and Crane felt like a couple of leftovers who were just put together. Crane is a solid personality with Hollister at times, but his in-ring work isn’t quite there. Mannix is a wrestler with potential but he’s lost so much in various matches that I think he needs time away before bringing him back in. Northstache Express are an undercard team at best. They’ll be fine as fodder for Harvey’s group.

Winner (s)/Time/Rating: Northstache Express/4:35/*1/2

-Speaking of Kevin Harvey’s group, here they come to get some revenge from earlier in the evening. Tweek Phoenix and Lamar Titan lead the way. Wrestlers gather on the outside before Eastman HITS A DIVE! Eastman gets on the microphone and makes fun of every heel on the outside of the ring. He makes a challenge for a street fight at the next show in Bourbon Street. Harvey accepts. It will be Corbin and Fontaine against Phoenix and Titan.

-Sami Callihan is in the basement once again. He talks about valuing friendships on his life and wrestling against one of his best friends in wrestling, Mike Elgin. He talks about breaking Elgin’s leg or choking him out to get the championship. The only thing that matters to him is the AAW championship. He also wants another match with Davey Richards at Windy City Classic and wants to expose him as a quitter by tapping him out. Of course the turkey is there.

-Shimmer Championship: Saraya Knight (champion) vs. MsChif

Match in Five Words or Less: Stupid Interference

Match Summary: Knight doesn’t get into any fights on the way to the ring. I attribute this to the incredible security work of Tripp Cassidy and Dale Patricks. Knight gets on the microphone and tells everyone to sit down. She talks some garbage to her challenger  and might as well post a sign on her forehead that says “I’m the heel.” This is the first Shimmer title defense on an AAW show. Immediate roll-up by MsChif. Series of forearms and another cover for two. Knight powders for a bit before coming back in and stomping MsChif’s foot. Series of right hands as she applies a headlock. Knight exits the ring again. Shot to the back by MsChif. Knight sent head first into the apron. Right hands by Knight. MsChif sent into the apron and back in the ring. Low blow by the champion back in the ring. DDT for two. Stretch in the ropes. Right hands by Knight. Low blow and MsChif is outside the ring again. Right hands by MsChif. Knight sent into the timekeeper’s table. MsChif ties the champion’s arms into the barricade. Knight sent into the post. Overhand chop on a prone Knight. Kick to the left hamstring. MsChif dumped over into the crowd. This is a wonderful idea. MsChif sent toward the back of the building. Knight sends the challenger back over the barrier. Kick to the side. Forearm to the midsection and then to the head. Rear naked choke along the barricade. Security becomes involved. MsChif maintains the advantage. Knees in the back. Hammerlock as they’re on the outside. Knight comes back and decks MsChif. Short kick right in the butt. MsChif with a slap to the posterior. Again. Series of kicks and punches. Whip in the corner as they finally reenter the ring. Running butt splash. Dropkick between the legs. Knight sends MsChif into the steel steps. Sloppy DDT. Slap across the face. MsChif with blows to the back. Knight sent head first into the stairs. MsChif drives her head  multiple times into those steps. MsChif sends Knight In one more time. MsChif sends Knight back in the ring. In the ring for a two count. Truth Martini comes in and mists MsChif. Knight covers for three.

Match Analysis: Pretty vicious brawl until the ending that came out of nowhere. A better finish with a third act to the match could have led to something special. I understand the need to have this match go ten minutes, but there’s no excuse to have a match go along and then just end like this. Martini and MsChif could have had interaction afterward.

Winner (s)/Time/Rating: STILL Shimmer Champion-Saraya Knight/10:40/**3/4

-Truth Martini wishes MsChif a Happy Halloween. He talks about getting the last laugh makes some sexual innuendos as the theme music of his men hit. Martini says he will be wrestling MsChif the following month in an almost throwaway line. The champions’ music hits and we have…

-AAW Tag Team Championship: Jimmy Jacobs and Arik Cannon (champions) vs. House of Truth (Danny Daniels and Jesse Emerson w/Truth Martini)

Match in Five Words or Less: That Was Something

Match Summary: Jacobs and Cannon fight on their way to ringside. Shoving before the bell rings. Daniels slaps Jacobs. Champions go in the ring and the brawl is on in the ring. No semblance of an actual match. The individual battles go to ringside and into the crowd. Cannon and Jacobs end up back in the ring back-to-back. More arguing. Jacobs with a low kick. Right hand misses. Challengers come in and can’t do anything. Cannon locks in the Indian deathlock. Jacobs brings in a beer but won’t give it to Cannon. Beer is all over the ring now. Cannon calls for and gets a beer. They toast. Emerson comes in and gets hit with a golden mist. Cannon nails him with the can. Jacobs mists Cannon. Daniels brings Cannon out. Jacobs kicks Emerson out of the ring. Daniels slips on the beer. Right hands from Jacobs. To the jabs. Daniels flops. Martini on the apron. Jacobs slides outside. Emerson hits a belly-to-belly suplex. Whip sends Jacobs front first into the corner. Heat segment… I guess… on Jacobs. Jacobs ducks a right hand and hits the acecrusher. Cannon comes in with a series of clotheslines on Emerson. Back elbow off the ropes. He flips over. Daniels pokes him in the eyes. Forearms. Cannon from behind. Right hand. Uranagi by Emerson. Jacobs breaks the counts. Jabs by Jacobs again. Daniels pulls him out of the ring. Back suplex into the ring. Alabama Slam countered. Right hand by Cannon. Martini with a book shot. Alabama slam. 1-2-NO! Daniels sets up for the spike piledriver. Jacobs breaks it up. Daniels sent into Emerson. End Time turned into an atomic drop. Piledriver countered. End Time on Daniels. Emerson with a right hand. Into the powerslam position. Jacobs counters into End Time. Martini on the apron again. Emerson is out. Cannon is reading the book. Jacobs goes after Martini. Emerson with a knee. Martini in the ring next. Low blow on Martini. One for Emerson too. Contra code. Martini headbutt in the groin. Cannon hits a brainbuster. Double superkick. Double cover and the champions retain.

Match Analysis: Just a brutal match to watch. No flow. Went too long. Nothing looked crisp. What happened with Zero Gravity and the champions in August is understandable. Weird circumstances happen on the indies. This? Just unpleasant to watch and no one in this match should be pleased with their performance. Thankfully, AAW was smart enough to cut the worst part of this segment from the DVD, the post-match promo with Cannon and Jacobs.

Winner (s)/Time/Rating: STILL AAW Tag Team Champions-Jimmy Jacobs and Arik Cannon/17:18/**

-AAW Heavyweight Championship: Michael Elgin (champion, AAW Heritage Champion) vs. Sami Callihan

Spinning powerbomb and Elgin finally wins.

Match Analysis: Another show. Another four star main event. This was significantly better than their PWG match. They didn’t have nearly as much to follow as they did last time and proved they were capable of delivering in the main event position after a really long show. They kept the crowd with them for the most part and used a lot of physicality to get this over. Great effort from both of these men in a position where they could have easily thrown in the towel.

Winner (s)/Time/Rating: STILL AAW Heavyweight Champion-Michael Elgin/24:23/****

-Jimmy Jacobs talks about beating Irish Airborne back in January before Arik Cannon opens up a beer can. Jacobs says it doesn’t matter what Cannon does. They kick butt and just win.

-Truth Martini talks about doing everything in a premeditated way. He was supposed to manage the champions. Emerson is out of the House of Truth after a year. He talks about MsChif not seeing what was coming. He has a few tricks up his sleeve and cannot wait for the Bourbon Street show. Martini talks about guiding someone to the right path. On that night, someone will be guiding him… apparently Danny Daniels.

The Verdict: This was a long show and far from a perfect show. However there are two matches well worth going out of your way to see. There were a couple notable midcard matches, and the women got to showcase themselves two times over. Big thumbs up for War is Coming.
