Crash Comics & CPW Present: 35 Days Later
March 08, 2013
Metropolis, Illinois

This is my first Chaos Pro event that I’m watching. I want to say that I appreciated that I could have bought the individual matches that I was most interested in. But for the sake of fairness, I bought the whole event in which I did save some money but I definitely encourage you guys to go that route to get the full effect of the show. Let’s get to it. Not the best opening with attempting to get the crowd to do the Harlem Shake, but it was fun and some of the kids enjoyed it. Not necessarily the crowd I would have asked to attempt that kind of “dancing”.

Infinit1 Champion Mikey McFinnegan vs “Dirdey” Jake Dirden

Dirden debuted into CPW tonight and cut a basic promo that I felt went too long, but it worked. Mikey came out and literally no one probably thought that he had a shot to defeat Dirden who a big man compared to Mikey. Basic little man vs big man match with Mikey attempting first with strikes and then going for a good dive in the first 3 minutes of the match. Dirden would take control though and dominate a lot of this match that forced Mikey to work harder to get in any offense. A good match as Mikey McFinnegan would get a win after quickly making to the top rope and hitting a moonsault for the surprise pin and retained his title against Jake Dirden.

“Farmer” Billy Hills & Aaron XTC vs Dave Russle & En Fuego

A lot of comedy in the beginning of this match that honestly went too long. The crowd didn’t really seem into it either so can’t even defend it and say that it was for the crowd. When the match did start it was ridiculous. No offense to Aaron XTC, who is a very small man, he went up against the average Dave Russle but they just did the typical small man stuff that was boring and was just pointing out the obvious too much. We then went to tests of shoulder tackles which was even more of a waste of time. Aaron was able to get the crowd into the underdog chants but the wrestling was sub par. There weren’t any botches but this was a forgettable match. Once Billy got into the match, Russle was able to do some actual wrestling and had some impressive suplexes before tagging in the debuting En Fuego who despite the lucha inspired gimmick, really didn’t do anything exciting. It was good to note that the commentary team did mention the points that were apparently on the line in this match as it was part of a Path to Infinity tournament going on within CPW. After already seeing a fighting underdog story in the last match, this was just redundant. Aaron XTC would hit a code breaker on En Fuego to get the pinfall but because of the way the tournament works, XTC got more points than Billy.

“The Working Man” Frank Wyatt w/ Dr. Col. Nolan Angus vs Trent “The Tru” Ware

Even though this was literally the third match in a row where we had the big man/small man dynamic, Trent Ware was crisp and Wyatt was the correct big man to showcase the high flying abilities of Ware. Wyatt was effective to as a big man and hit good suplexes and power moves. Having the Doc Colonel in your corner also didn’t hurt. These two had a good match that had good wrestling including a fun spot where Wyatt was swinging Trent around but Trent was able to swing free and kick Wyatt in the face and away. This was a better match and I’m kinda intrigued to look up some Trent Ware matches on Youtube. Wyatt though would get the win after a big slam and the Doc Colonel probably will buy more alcohol with the money from the winners purse.

David Vaughn vs “The Alternative” Brandon Gallagher

This match got me into the event as they started out strong. Kinda fitting that David Vaughn who had tights similar to KENTA would be a heavy striker with the kicks and working for submissions. Enjoyed this match as both men worked a good match with both clearly willing to do anything for the win but the heavy use of strikes and power moves really changed the pace of the show and I think the audience enjoyed it. David Vaughn got a good win with a spear. This match would have been overlooked by me if I had just went for individual matches and I would have been wrong. This would have definitely been worth spending $1.99 for.

Ricochet vs Shane Smalls

This was the match I was obviously anticipating as I’ve seen Shane a few times in other random matches and Ricochet always brings his working boots. Ricochet has been in CHAOS before and honestly he really works as a face with a crowd like this given the exciting style that he works. Smalls and Ricochet had a great match with some good tight technical wrestling to start off which built well towards the end of the contest. Smalls got some of his high flying offense in too including a nice moonsault to the floor. Great match following up the last one, albeit no real surprise. Great sequences of strikes in this match literally the last 2 minutes of this match. Ricochet gets the win with a picture perfect shoot star press.

Zakk Sawyers vs unofficial CPW Champion Chic Canyon (he has a belt)

These two guys worked a more grounded style and had a decent match. This is a much better Zakk Sawyer than what he does in Collision. Can’t really say more then that about it. Decent match and worth checking out for CPW fans. Canyon would hit Sawyer with 4 German suplexes but on the 5th time, Sawyer would reverse it into a pinfall.

CPW Heavyweight Champion Ty Blade vs Bull Bronson

The match got ended after Chic interfered in the match and caused the ref to DQ Ty and Bronson was declared the winner.

Overall: With three matches that really weren’t anything and the main event feeling more like story development than an actual match, I’d have to say to buy the three matches I really enjoyed and save yourself some time, but if you’re into the CPW product or checking it out for the first time, I’d say spend the extra $4 and get the whole show so you can get a feel for the talents and the product.
