1 WIN, 1 LOSS FOR RING OF HONOR CHAMPIONS AT NASHVILLE PRO WRESTLING EVENT

NASHVILLE, TN (Sunday, May 26, 2013) — Two of the world’s top-ranked professional wrestlers encountered opposite results in Nashville Pro Wrestling’s debut Friday, May 24, at the Old Hickory Community Center.

Davey Richards made his first Nashville appearance since 2008 but ended the night with a pinfall loss to Yaden Matthews in the main event. The win marked the Nashville debut for Matthews, a former heavyweight champion in Colorado and Ohio. Richards, a former Ring of Honor champion, entered the event ranked No. 7 in the world according to Pro Wrestling Illustrated.

Kyle O’Reilly, a current Ring of Honor tag team champion, defeated Antonio Garza and Shawn Shultz to win the three-man Flightweight Cup qualifying match. O’Reilly will advance to the Flightweight Cup event scheduled for later this year.

Other match winners Friday were Christian Rose, Shawn Hoodrich, Brandon Espinosa, Matt Cage and Team IOU (Nick Iggy and Kerry Awful).

Third match: Brandon Espinosa (St. Louis, Mo.) def. Dyron Flynn (Charlotte, N.C.) by pinfall in 7:23.

Fourth match: Kyle O’Reilly (Vancouver, B.C., Canada) def. Shawn Shultz (Oak Ridge, Tenn.) and Antonio Garza (Mexico City, Mexico) by pinfall in 14:08.

Fifth match: Matt Cage (Las Vegas, Nev.) def. Alex Castle (Chicago, Ill.) by pinfall in 11:39.

Sixth match: Team IOU (Paradise Falls, Tenn.) pinned The Hollistars (Huntington Beach, Calif.) in a five-team gauntlet-style elimination match that also included Today’s Youth, Elements of Wrestling and the team of Darren Dean and Aaron Solo in 26:37.

Seventh match: Yaden Matthews (Mansfield, Ohio) def. Davey Richards (Othello, Wash.) by pinfall in 13:43.

NOTES: This was Nashville Pro Wrestling’s second live event and its first at the Old Hickory Community Center. … Nashville recording artist Austin Moody performed a two-song set and the national anthem prior to the opening match. … Matt King of St. Louis replaced J.J. Garrett in the lineup. Shawn Shultz of Oak Ridge, Tenn., replaced Reed Bentley in the three-man matchup. Both Garrett and Bentley were unable to attend the event. … Proceeds from concession sales went to the Old Hickory Bulldawgs youth cheerleading squad, which staffed the concession area. … Ring officials were Chris Hobbs and Grahm Long. … Friday’s event was the first wrestling event at the OHCC since a Showtime All-Star Wrestling event in December 2012.
