This week: After seven months unstopped, it’s Payback come early as The Shield’s undefeated streak finally comes to an end on Smackdown, at the capable hands of Daniel Bryan and ‘friends’. Plus, Daniel Bryan versus Seth Rollins for the ROH fan, Antonio Cesaro versus Sami Zayn for the PWG fan, Heath Slater versus Great Khali for those who believe two out of three ain’t bad, a McMahon family saga and Bo Dallas is your NXT Champion.

RAW

Curtis Axel d. HHH by DQ in 1:19. This went barely twenty seconds before Vince came out. He walked to the ring and ordered Justin Roberts announce HHH had been disqualified. HHH then ordered Roberts to restart the match.

Curtis Axel d. HHH by forfeit in 0:55. So Vince came straight back out and stopped it again. HHH restarted the match as a 60 minute Ironman Match, but Vince told Axel to leave and stole the ring bell. After the break HHH complained to Stephanie, who tried to convince him not to hurt Vince.

Kane d. Dean Ambrose by DQ in 6:48. There was still no bell for the start of this, although it returned during the match. Rollins and Reigns eventually interfered for the DQ and were run off by Bryan and Orton. They had a vote on the app to decide Bryan would face Rollins later, leaving Reigns to face Orton. Orton, Kane and Bryan then argued backstage until Vickie and Brad showed up. She put Orton and Bryan against Rollins and Reigns for the Tag Team Titles at Kane against Ambrose for the US Title at Payback. Kane hugged Vickie.

The Miz d. Cody Rhodes by submission in 2:36. Wade was on commentary. They announced Fandango was out of Payback with a concussion. Miz won with the figure four, before Heyman came out and announced Axel would replace Fandango at Payback.

– A video hyped Mark Henry returning next week. Stephanie then confronted Vince, who said business came first over family.

– Jericho came out. He said nobody took him to the limit like CM Punk and explained they were a lot alike. Jericho said the classic trilogy between them would continue at Payback and he had to win. Ziggler interrupted and tried talking about his match with Del Rio, until Jericho challenged him to a match. But Ziggler set him up in a match with Big E instead.

Chris Jericho d. Big E Langston in 6:31. Ziggler distracted Jericho near the end, but Del Rio ran down and laid him out. That distracted Big E, allowing Jericho to avoid an attack in the corner and win with the Codebreaker.

Antonio Cesaro d. Sin Cara in 3:52. Zeb was on commentary. He ran down Sin Cara, but had no problem with Cesaro. Cesaro won by choking Sin Cara out and delivering a Neutraliser.

– There was a segment with Vickie, Brad and Vince with some more than blatant product placement for Hardee’s, where they organised the segment with Ryback and Cena.

Roman Reigns and Randy Orton went to a no contest when Daniel Bryan and Seth Rollins interfered. This took a long time to pick up. It eventually did when Orton made his big comeback. But as he teased an RKO, Rollins jumped Bryan and tried to attack Orton. Bryan then hit a dive on Rollins and Reigns, so the referee threw the match out and we went to:

Daniel Bryan d. Seth Rollins in 12:37. No problems with this one picking up. Bryan started hot and took Rollins out with a flying knee off the apron. Rollins eventually took control, despite Bryan winning a battle of surfboard holds. Bryan fought back and survived a couple of near falls for Rollins, before Rollins caught Bryan with a forearm to block another dive. Bryan managed to hit a Chaos Theory german suplex and a buzzsaw kick for two. Rollins landed on top to counter a back superplex. Orton then prevented Reigns from getting involved, before Rollins missed a splash in the corner and Bryan won with, of all things, a small package. After the match, Rollins tried to attack but Bryan hit a roundhouse kick and Orton delivered an RKO.

– Kaitlyn was in the ring to find out who her secret admirer was. Big E came out with flowers and pretended to woo Kaitlyn, then pushed her over as they were about to kiss, at which point AJ came out and made fun of her. She blamed Kaitlyn for not being there for her when she was dumped by Bryan, Punk and Cena. AJ said the only thing Kaitlyn had left was the Diva’s Title and she’d take that at Payback too. Kaitlyn finally slapped AJ and they brawled before AJ escaped.

Damien Sandow d. R-Truth in 3:22. Before the match Sandow claimed victory in his battle of wits with Sheamus and promised to prove he was his physical superior as well. Sandow beat Truth with a new finisher, The Silencer which is sort of like a side effect, before Sheamus threatened to kick his head off in Chicago.

– HHH and Vince argued backstage, until Stephanie yelled at them to sort it out. They sort of did and they all ended up having a group hug.

– Ryback and Cena had a face to face to end the show, with the lumberjacks at Payback around the ring. Except Ryback refused to go to the ring and stayed on the stage. Ryback pointed out the times he should have been WWE Champion and said he got too good too fast so Cena tried to protect his spot. Cena told him to stop bitching and said what he was good at was making excuses. Cena tried to go after Ryback but the lumberjacks stopped him leaving the ring. Ryback then tried to jump Cena but got sent outside, before the lumberjacks pulled Cena and Ryback apart.

MAIN EVENT

The Miz d. Cody Rhodes by submission in 12:54. Wade filled in on commentary since Miz was wrestling. Safe to say Cody put up a better fight than he did on Raw. He focused on Miz’s arm after sending it into the post. Miz fought back but couldn’t hit the Skull Crushing Finale. Cody almost won with a disaster kick before escaping a figure four attempt. But Miz got it second time around and forced Cody to tap.

Damien Sandow d. Sin Cara in 5:44. Before the match Sandow insulted the crowd and promised to teach by physical means as well from now on. He struggled early, but grounded Sin Cara eventually. Sin Cara had a very brief flurry late, but Sandow ended up winning with The Silencer.

The Usos d. Tons Of Funk (Jimmy pinned Brodus) in 4:52. There was mutual respect from both teams and plenty of dance interludes. Usos had problems at first and Brodus hit a big splash, but Jey made a save. A pair of superkicks then set Brodus up for a superfly splash from Jimmy for the pin.

NXT

Antonio Cesaro d. Sami Zayn in 10:05. Cesaro jumped Sami before the bell. He put a beating on Sami for much of the match, with Sami trying to fight back but getting halted every time. Sami hit a somersault to the floor, but Cesaro blocked a crossbody with a european uppercut for a two count. Sami then got a near fall with a rolling Code Red which looked awesome. In the end, Sami ran into a boot in the corner but almost surprised Cesaro with a roll up. Cesaro escaped though and choked Sami out, to set up the Neutraliser. You’ll be shocked to hear this was really good.

Scott Dawson and Garrett Dylan d. Baron Corbin and Travis Tyler (Dawson pinned Corbin) in 4:27. Lefort did an introduction for his team. Dylan and Dawson dominated and won with their spinebuster, sitting axehandle type drop double team which I can’t see them keeping for long.

NXT Womens Championship Tournament First Round: Alicia Fox d. Bayley in 3:27. Bayley’s character is now ‘excitable young girl’, apparently. Alicia bullied her around until Bayley had enough and fought back. But Alicia won with the scissors kick.

NXT Championship: Bo Dallas d. Big E Langston (c) in 7:47 to win the title. Crowd were clearly behind Big E and clearly against Bo. Big E pulled out a leapfrog early on. He dominated early. Bo made a comeback, to chants of “No More Bo”. Big E blocked the belly to belly though and had Bo set up for the Big Ending. But Bo escaped and pulled down the turnbuckle pad in the process, sent Big E into it twice and won with the belly to belly. Renee interviewed Bo as he was leaving and he proclaimed he was going to Disney World, while the crowd booed loudly.

SMACKDOWN

– Bryan came out. He said he never thought he’d spend 9 months teaming with Kane, but they’d become one of the best teams in WWE history. He called Kane out (and put his fingers in his ears before the pyro could go off). Kane said he was only interested in their match tonight, but Bryan wanted to talk about Payback and gently broke the news they wouldn’t be teaming anymore once he and Orton became Tag Team Champions. Kane asked if Bryan was breaking up with him and pointed out he was going to win the US Title at Payback. Bryan called himself and Orton ‘Team RKNo’ but Kane pointed out they hated each other. Bryan accused him of calling him the weak link again. He said he and Orton would do what he and Kane could never do by beating The Shield, which Kane took as Bryan calling him the weak link. He grabbed Bryan by the throat but Orton interrupted and stopped Kane, because he needed Bryan at 100%. They all argued until The Shield appeared on the screen to gloat and claim tonight, they’d lose, just like every other time they faced The Shield.

Sheamus d. Antonio Cesaro in 7:26. Sandow showed up before the match and promised an Irish wake on Payback Kickoff. This started as an all out brawl before Sheamus gave Cesaro a fallaway slam into the barrier. Cesaro tackled Sheamus into the steps to gain control, which also cut open Sheamus’s shoulder. An out of nowhere Brogue Kick won it for Sheamus though. Really good match before the abrupt finish. Sandow then ran out and gave Sheamus a cheap shot as he celebrated on the stage.

– Backstage, Teddy did a not so subtle job plugging Hardee’s. Ziggler and crew interrupted. Ziggler complained about having to compete tonight. Big E then stole Teddy’s burger and Teddy was sad.

Heath Slater d. Great Khali in 2:23. Yes Slater actually won, with a DDT, after Drew and Jinder distracted Khali by shoving Hornswoggle around.

Alberto Del Rio and Chris Jericho d. Dolph Ziggler and Big E Langston (Del Rio pinned Ziggler) in 8:09. Ziggler teased starting but tagged out rather than face Alberto. Jericho was worn down, thanks to a little interference from AJ, with Ziggler wanting no part of Del Rio when he was in. Del Rio came in against Ziggler and after things broke down, Alberto surprised Ziggler with an inside cradle for the win.

– Renee interviewed Jericho. Jericho said he wasn’t a stranger to Chicago and even debuted in 1999 in Chicago. Heyman interrupted tried to wish him luck, claiming he’d need it. Jericho knocked the microphone into Heyman’s face to shut him up.

– Kaitlyn was supposed to face Aksana, but she snapped before the match and attacked Aksana. When the referee pulled her off she attacked him too, before Aksana finally ran off.

Curtis Axel d. Wade Barrett in 2:06. Wade tried to suggest calling off the match to Heyman, but Miz showed up and I guess convinced them to fight. He also mentioned Dancing With The Stars, so apparently he didn’t get the memo. Axel accidentally hit Miz, then caught Wade coming back in with the swinging neckbreaker for the pin, before Miz gave Axel a Skull Crushing Finale.

Randy Orton and Team Hell No! d. The Shield (Bryan pinned Rollins) in 10:08. After Orton and Hell No started strong, The Shield finally cut off Bryan. Orton came in and tried a double hanging DDT, but Ambrose and Rollins fought it off and regained control. Kane made a comeback, before Bryan tagged himself in and made a typically amazing comeback, at which point the match went to another level. Bryan tore through everybody but missed the flying headbutt. Orton tried an RKO, but Reigns countered and hit a spear. Kane then took out both Ambrose and Reigns in the timekeeper’s area, before Rollins hit a buckle bomb on Bryan. As he went for the flying knee though, Kane shoved him off, into an RKO from Orton, allowing Bryan to apply the NO Lock for the tap out to hand The Shield their first proper defeat as a trio. The three or so minutes were awesome, the crowd were going nuts and they sold the fact it was The Shield’s first loss big too, with Lillian even making that point clear in her announcement, incase anybody didn’t already know I guess.

What You (Probably) Need To See:
– Bryan versus Rollins on Raw.
– Cesaro versus Sami Zayn on NXT.
– Cesaro versus Sheamus from Smackdown.
– And The Shield against Orton and Team Hell No!
