4th of July, 2018!

Catrina is walking in the back, and gives Fenix one final kiss… Meanwhile Melissa Santos is looking back at photos of her with Fenix. Catrina walks in and tells her that he’s never coming back. She says he gave his life for the one that he truly loved, Catrina. She then hands Melissa half of the aztec medallion.

As usual, Matt Striker and Vampiro welcome us to the show. They talk about Jake Strong’s attack on Famous B, and doctor’s said he may have to get his leg amputated.

Big Bad Steve w/Beautiful Brenda vs. Jake Strong

This match make sense, as Jake was supposed to be apart of Famous B’s stable, however Strong knocked him out and decided to be by himself. Big Bad Steve literally got nothing in here… As it was all about Jake Strong. The dude is over, looking good, and LU obviously sees big things in him. After the match, Strong laid out Steve, making him look like even more of a threat. Good little enhancement match for Strong here as he begins to rack up wins.

Winner: Jake Strong

Match Rating: NA

Antonio Cueto is drinking in his office, and tells King Cuerno that he has something that doesn’t belong to him. Cuerno says it was stolen from him, and he has no clue where it is. Cueto offers Cuerno an ancient aztec medallion, in order for Cuerno to return the gauntlet. The match will be against the man who elimianted Cuerno, that being Chavo. Cgae walks into the office and wants to finish the job with Pentagon. Cueto says he doesn’t deserve a title match, and he’ll have to earn a medallion first. Cage will face none other than Mil Muertes next week.

Daga and Kobra Moon vs. Johnny Mundo and Taya

This was a perfectly solid match, nothing bad, nothing too special, just felt rushed as they weren’t given a ton of time. Johnny and Taya are a great team, and that showed. Daga has some good potential, and Kobra is fine. The finish made sense, as Worldwide Underground used the numbers advantage to get the first win of the series (I’d assume we’ll get plenty more matches). Nothing wrong with this one, as it advanced the feud and allowed for a good follow-up angle post match.

Winners: Johnny Mundo and Taya

Match Rating: **1/2

Vibora makes his way to the ring post match, but PJ fights him off for a second, only for everyone to get laid out shortly after. Vibora is an absolute beast, and this showed it. It’ll be interesting to see who can take down Vibora moving forward. They hold down Taya, and choke PJ in the process. Soon enough, Kobra will get the attention of Johnny.

Matanza is walking in the back, and Antonio Cueto says “it’s time”.

“The Sacrifice to the Gods”: Mr. Pectacular vs. Matanza Cueto w/Antonio Cueto

I hope you had a nice four weeks in the temple, Mr. Pectacular. Matanza absoutely destroyed this man in no time. Now that he’s free, it’ll be interesting to see if Matanza eventually wins back the title, or somehow get’s written off due to issues with his father. Who knows… Anyways after the match, the lights went out, and once they came back on, Mr. Pectacular was nowhere to be found. There’s your sacrifice!

Winner: Matanza Cueto

Match Rating: NA

For an Aztec Medallion: King Cuerno vs. Chavo Guerrero

So this was the longest match of the night, but that isn’t saying much since it was around 10 minutes. It was a good match, easily the best of the sohw. Both men worked hard for the time given, they got their stuff in, Chavo almost stole the win, but in the end King Cuerno stood tall. There are some big things planned for him this season, and this is only the beginning. A solid main event, but nothing like last week.

Winner: King Cuerno

Match Rating: **3/4

Final Thoughts:

At the end of the day, four matches just doesn’t work that well on a weekly show. Here, we got a squash match, a rushed tag, a squash, and a solid main event. Not much happened besides the opening segment between Catrina/Melissa and the announcement of Cage/Mil for next week. Definitely the weakest episode of the season so far, but I have no doubt in my mind that LU will rebound in the weeks to come. Sometimes you need episodes like this, to establish guys like Strong, Matanza, and Cueto, while also progressing a feud (Worldwide/Reptile).

Final Rating: 5.5/10
