On August 4th, Progress Wrestling began one of its most ambitious tasks in the company’s short history. They teamed with US-based promotions EVOLVE and Defy to embark on a six-show US tour. The tour went from Philadelphia to Detroit, with stops in Boston, New York, Seattle and Chicago in between. Not only was this tour used to capitalize on Progress’s popularity across-the-pond, it was used to find a new challenger for the Progress World Title at Wembley Arena.

After Super Strong Style 16 winner Zack Sabre Jr. had to drop out due to a concurrent New Japan show, a new challenger would be named in the Three-And-In Series. The same way Chikara names challengers for their titles, whoever could win three matches in a row between the start of this tour and Chapter 75 would be entered in the World Title match at Wembley. With that going on, plus the continuation of the Thunderbastard Tag League and title matches galore, this was a tour not to miss. Here are the big notes coming out of the tour!

Three Men Remain In The Three-And-In Series

While no one punched their ticket to Wembley by the end of the tour, three men remained in contention for the coveted main event spot. Mark Haskins, Tyler Bate and Jimmy Havoc ended the tour with two wins in a row, with a chance to earn that third win at Chapter 75. Haskins beat Mark Andrews in Boston (Night 2), and got payback against Flash Morgan Webster (Night 3) in a submission match in New York. Tyler Bate got his wins against TK Cooper (Night 5: Chicago) and Eddie Dennis (Night 6: Detroit). Those same nights, Jimmy Havoc earned his wins against Mark Andrews and TK Cooper.

Several men came oh-so-close to glory, but fell short in the end. Eddie Dennis got to two wins before losing to TK Cooper in Seattle. Matt Riddle (who replaced the injured Travis Banks) got two wins before losing a four-way in Chicago. And surprisingly enough, Progress debutant Brody King was on two wins on the final night of the tour before losing a six-way scramble in Detroit.

At Chapter 75, WALTER will find out who will challenge for his World Title in Wembley. Mark Haskins and Tyler Bate will wrestle each other for their third win. Jimmy Havoc on the other hand, has asked to slay one of his demons before getting to Wembley. He has chosen to fight his arch-nemesis WILL OSPREAY in a No-DQ best-of-three falls match to earn his spot at Wembley.

There Were More Tag Team Champions Than Shows on the Tour

The Thunderbastard Tag League took a turn for the absurd over these six shows. On the first night of the tour, the defending champions Grizzled Young Veterans (Zack Gibson and James Drake) lost their titles to CCK (Chris Brookes and Kid Lykos). Unfortunately, Kid Lykos broke his collarbone in Boston the next night. This led to Progress allowing Jonathan Gresham to take Lykos’s place, since he is an original member of CCK. They defended the titles in an acclaimed match against LAX in New York before Gresham gets injured in Seattle. AR Fox took Gresham’s place alongside Brookes in Chicago, but they would lose the titles to Bandido and Flamita. The luchadores would successfully keep the titles against the Grizzled Young Vets in Detroit to end the tour. Eight different men were recognized as tag team champions on this six-show tour.

And if you’re asking yourself if Bandido and Flamita were in the Thunderbastard Tag League, they weren’t. Why did this team (along with LAX) get to challenge for the titles, despite not being in the Thunderbastard Tag League? Don’t ask me. Progress remedied this by just making those two enter first in the Wembley Thunderbastard.

WALTER and Jinny Retain Their Titles

There was no rest for Progress singles champs WALTER and Jinny, as they took part of the tour as well. In Philly, Jinny won a six-woman tag match alongside Natalia Markova and Solo Darling against Toni Storm, Ashley Vox and Jordynne Grace. Jinny returned in Chicago, teaming with the Grizzled Young Veterans in a winning effort against Toni Storm, Darby Allin, and Jack Sexsmith. On the final night of the tour in Detroit, Jinny successfully defended the title in a four-way over Grace, Markova, and Storm.

WALTER was a fighting champion in his appearances, defending his newly won championship three times in four days. He beat Jimmy Havoc, the longest reigning champion in Progress history, in Seattle. And despite falling in the middle of their feud, he beat Eddie Dennis in Chicago and Mark Andrews in Detroit. Now he waits to find out who will challenge him at Wembley Arena.
