NXT NOVEMBER 28TH 2018

Danny Burch and Oney Lorcan vs. The Mighty
This show was taped in San Jose, so a bit of change of scenery. Feels like a while since they’ve done a non-Full Sail taping. They tend to be hit and miss, but the crowd were a net positive here. This was a solid tag match, absolutely nothing wrong with it, picking up by the end and helped by the crowd being into Burch and Lorcan. There’s still just something about The Mighty as heels that doesn’t resonate with me though. It’s all so generic in terms of presentation, there’s nothing to latch onto. It’s like they’ve been designed to be seen merely as solid hands. Lorcan got the roll-up pin on Miller, when Burch speared Thorne out of a double team attempt. Post match, The Mighty laid Burch and Lorcan out, so this will continue. A feud between these two makes perfect sense for both, I just hope Miller and Thorne can be let loose along the way and find a hook.

Recap of Fish taking out EC3’s knee last month with a chair.

Stills of Shayna and Kairi’s match from Takeover. Kairi, Dakota and Io were questioned about it, with Kairi saying she wasn’t finished with Shayna and Dakota saying they weren’t going to stand for her friends getting involved, with a challenge being made to all three.

EC3 vs. Marcel Barthel
An interesting pairing that seemed to mesh well. EC3 ultimately won in comfortable fashion with the One Percenter, but Barthel got a chance to showcase himself a bit. EC3’s had some ups and downs with different opponents since returning, but this one worked.

After the match, EC3 told Fish he forgot to finish the job and he was coming for him specifically.

Candice avoided being interviewed arriving at the Performance Center.

Mia Yim vs. Vanessa Borne
Good reaction for Mia coming out. She won with Eat Defeat, to get back momentum after her loss to Bianca. Borne continues to look solid and Mia seems to have fit pretty seamlessly into a top face role. I presume Shayna ends up with Io next, but Mia feels like a perfect Shayna opponent if they’re not going that route.

They teased that War Raiders were nursing injuries from War Games, but didn’t give any specific update yet.

Ciampa had another of his self filmed promos. Not much to this, some told you so’ing and saying he expected everyone to follow his lead.

Lars Sullivan vs. Keith Lee
Much like Nikki last week, I assumed that Lars was here to lose on his way out the door. And much like last week, I was wrong. The crowd clearly bought into the idea of this match and were up for seeing it. There were a couple of displays of agility from Lee but I was expecting a little more out of this, but then again I was also expecting Lee to win, so maybe if he was they’d have gone that route. Instead, Lars got the clean win with the Freak Accident after a missed moonsault by Lee. Fine match, but I reckon these two have better in there were they to go all out on a Takeover. Presumably, they won’t get that chance. They were doing the “who can stop Lars Sullivan” routine post match, so maybe he’s not done on NXT yet, but short of Black beating him again, I’m really not sure who else you’d have him lose to on the way out that makes sense and makes for a good match.

RECOMMENDED VIEWING: All four matches on the show were fine watches, but nothing really stood out greatly. The tag match was probably the best match, Lars and Lee probably got the best reaction. A solid hour, but not an essential one.

NXT WEEK: A Tommaso Ciampa appearance.
