Started by the Newscast co-host Dylan Hales. Here are the results of the 2018 Southern Indie Awards

Referee Of The Year

1. Doug Markham
2. Daryl Hall
3…….. A bunch of people tied and I’m not naming them all.

Venue Of The Year

1. Basement East
2. Roger Spencer Community Center (ACTION Zone)
3. Landmark Arena

Basement East was the clear winner here, but it was a tight race for 2 and 3.

Fanbase Of The Year

1. SUP
2. ACTION
3. SCI

Probably could have cut this award and it feels weird even listing it. The race for frist was extremely close fwiw.

Booker Of The Year (most people voted by promotion)

1. SUP team
2. Matt Griffin
3. SCI team

This was clos-ish. I will say Todd Sexton had more votes by name than anyone other than Matt and it feels weird not including him.

Promotion Of The Year

1. ACTION Wrestling
2. SUP
3. Southern Fried

This was the closest of all categories – ACTION won by 1 point.

I decided to wave Promoter Of The Year results because the way people entered their picks there was very strange

Show Of The Year

1. Action For The Armed Forces (8/17)
2. SCI Night 2
3. SUP Not Problematic

This was very close and was the 1 award where if people had read the rules it probably would have been different. If you voted for “SCI” without providing a day it didn’t get counted
– If I had counted all SCI votes as a vote for day 2 it would have won handidly but that just felt wrong because who knows? Two other interesting notes – no one could agree on what their fav SUP show was and August was apparently a great month for Southern wrestling eh?

Wrestler To Watch in 2019

1. O’Shay Edwards
2. Mr. Brickster
3. Cain Justice

Interesting mix of guys here. O’Shay was definitely the winner though he didn’t run away with it. 2-5 were extremely close.

Feud/Rivalry Of The Year

1. Carnies against each other
2. Fred Yehi vs Arik Royal
3. Brett Ison vs The Carnies

The Carnies were 1 point away from placing first and second in this category. Which brings me to….

Moment Of The Year

1. Joey Lynch wins SCI
2. Joey Lynch moonsault party on PCO
3. Marko Stunt wins SUP Bonestorm Title

Joey Lynch takes one and two for two different moments on the same night. Wild.

Most Improved Wrestler Of The Year

1. O’Shay Edwards
2. Jaden Newman
3. Brett Ison

A close race here, particularly between 2 and 3.

Breakout Wrestler Of The Year

1. Marko Stunt
2. O’Shay Edwards
3. Brett Ison

The only result that I’d call a true landslide. O’Shay and Brett were in a close race for second.

Tag Team Of The Year

1. The Carnies
2. The Lynches
3. Team TAG

This was a close race up until the last few days when The Carnies pulled ahead. For whatever reason this was the category that people used all three of their votes in the most.

Southern Star Award

The idea of this award was who best represents Southern Indie wrestling to the broader wrestling world but I’ve no clue how many of you bothered to read the rules to know that. In any case it was a three way tie with Kerry Awful, AC Mack and Brett Ison

Performer Of The Year (includes character, mic work, et, et, et)

1. AC Mack
2. Brett Ison
3. Arik Royal

AC with the win here but it was closer than you’d probably think. Arik beat out EFFY for third on a tiebreaker I arbitrarily had to make up on the fly (number of ballots)

Match Of The Year

1. Joey Lynch vs PCO – SCI Night 2
2. AC Mack vs Austin Theory – ACTION For The Armed Forces
3. Kevin Ku vs Tracy Williams – SUP Don’t Look In The Basement East

Joey and PCO got the W in a race that was close but clear. Ku vs Hot Sauce at 3 was a neat result

Wrestler Of The Year

1. Slim J
2. Joey Lynch
3. Fred Yehi

This was an extremely close 3 way race. There was a fourth person involved too who had a chance. One of the closest categories and the one with the most wide range of results.
