NXT JULY 10TH 2019

Io came out, with a new entrance, new theme song and new look to go with her heel turn. The crowd shouted her down for a bit, before she finally said that she didn’t need any friends and she didn’t need any of the fans, before leaving. This was simple but effective.

Velveteen Dream held a press conference backstage. Dream refused to answer a question about who his next challenger would be as he hadn’t pre-approved it, before claiming that Strong wasn’t worthy enough of a one on one match with him and ending the press conference.

Damian Priest vs. Blanco Loco
This was just a squash for Priest, winning with The Reckoning.

Another video teasing Killian Dain’s return to NXT, with some background thrown in of him growing up in Northern Ireland and that being the reason why he is the way he is.

NXT BREAKOUT TOURNAMENT ROUND 1
Jordan Myles vs. Boa
This was a decent first round match. You could see that Boa is still inexperienced, but he did an okay job here. The crowd got behind Myles, which is the key thing and after being worked over for the middle portion of the match with Boa’s kicks, Myles came back to get the win with the 450 splash. Myles gets Angel Garza in the semi final.

Baszler was interviewed about Mia challenging her. Baszler said Mia had a great story, but it was the most common story in fighting. She said it’d take more than a great story to impress her and when you were in the ring with her, the story always ended the same way, tap, nap or snap.

Video package on Keith Lee. He said the first year in NXT hadn’t quite gone as he wanted, so in year two there had to be some changes, limitless wasn’t enough and now he’d become infinite.

Footage from earlier in the day showed Regal arriving to the building. He brought up Ohno coming from NXT UK and Gulak coming from 205 Live to face KUSHIDA and announcing that week Apollo Crews would come back from Smackdown Live to face him.

NXT TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP
Street Profits vs. Oney Lorcan and Danny Burch
This started with a handshake. After Street Profits got the better of the early stages, Burch then kicked Dawkins after he offered another handshake, pegging Lorcan and Burch as the heel side for this match at least. Burch in particular was more aggressive here. Montez made a big comeback, before a back and forth finish, which ended with Ford hitting a big dive to Burch, Dawkins intercepting a dive attempt by Lorcan and Street Profits quickly putting away Burch with the sky high/frog splash combo. Good main event and we didn’t get a run-in finish involving Forgotten Sons, as I’d expected.

Instead of that, Fish and O’Reilly came out onto the stage after the match and applauded Street Profits, so that’s clearly the next program for the Tag Titles, with Undisputed Era chasing all the championships.

RECOMMENDED VIEWING: The main event was the best part of the show, with Io’s segment at the start of the show short but effective and Jordan Myles’s debut a pretty good showing as well.

NXT WEEK: Dexter Lumis versus Bronson Reed in the Breakout Tournament, KUSHIDA versus Apollo Crews and Adam Cole defending the NXT Championship.
