NXT AUGUST 7TH 2019

The show opened with a contract signing for Takeover between Street Profits and Fish and O’Reilly. Regal oversaw it and Street Profits interrupted him to do a faux introduction for Undisputed Era. Fish insisted that they were funnier than them and O’Reilly said that Street Profits being the Tag Team Champions was the joke, which caused Street Profits to get serious, saying that Fish and O’Reilly had beaten everybody and were probably the best team in NXT history, but that meant losing wasn’t an option and they were going to beat their asses. Both teams signed, no-one got hurt and that was that.

Hype video for Dream, Dunne and Strong at Takeover.

Corey Taylor from Slipknot plugged his album and predicted Cole would win at Takeover.

Mia/Shayna hype video, which was really good.

Shane Thorne vs. Joaquin Wilde
This came about from Thorne being upset about the Breakout Tournament and being overlooked. I’m optimistic about Thorne as a singles wrestler, assuming the character side of things clicks in a way it never seemed to for The Mighty. This was solid match with a tired crowd and served to give Thorne a win, snapping at the end of the match and throwing Wilde into the steps, post, apron and ramp, before throwing Wilde back in and beating him with a running knee strike.

Video package for Io versus Candice at Takeover.

Tribute video for Harley Race.

We were supposed to get Matt Riddle versus Killian Dain, but Dain jumped Riddle during his entrance instead and left him laying.

Recap of the NXT Breakout Tournament so far ahead of the final between Myles and Grimes, which will be on next week’s episode.

Recap of Fandango’s return to help Breeze fight off Forgotten Sons last week. They showed the interview with Cathy from WWE.com with Fandango telling Breeze their fashion sense had gotten whack and Breezango needed a makeover. Forgotten Sons against Breezango was then announced for next week’s show as well.

The show then closed with a really cool, longer, documentary style video promoting Cole against Gargano. Gargano was shown at the Performance Center and there were cameos from Rollins and Finn speaking to him, while Cole was shown defending the title on live events in the meantime. I don’t know if they plan on airing this one at Takeover, because it was pretty lengthy, but the different style was a nice change of pace for showing on the TV show.

RECOMMENDED VIEWING: Check out the Cole/Gargano video, the rest is skippable or things you’ll see elsewhere.
