Lance Archer Def. Alan Angels

Highlights:

  • Lance Archer’s physical strength on display with a giant chokeslam toss that sends Angels across the ring.

Low Points:

  • Another squash match. We know Archer is a beast and we don’t need another enhancement match. On the plus side, Angels is bigger than Marko Stunt.

Hikaru Shida Def. Britt Baker

Highlights:

  • Britt Baker’s performance. Utilizing the heel/face sides of the crowd, posing in front of the camera mid-match, talking to Tony Schiavone and getting busted open.
  • Better match than the one from last week. But that’s not saying much.
  • The past few shows the heel side of the arena have been helping each other out. Seeing the face side aid each other is overdue.
  • Britt using Billy Gunn’s finisher and then pointing him out.

Low Points:

  • The missed dropkick by Hikaru Shida was obvious. Britt hadn’t even hit the ropes before Shida was in the air.
  • For two performers such as Hikaru Shida and Britt Baker to start off a match by shoving each other. Combined with the hair-pulling it’s not a good look for the women’s division.

The Best Friend Def. Kenny Omega and Michael Nakazawa

Highlights:

  • Great combination match. Mixing elements of comedy with Michael Nakazawa and Orange Cassidy as along with serious wrestling from Trent Baretta, Chuck Taylor, and Kenny Omega.
  • “They’re wired stupid” Jericho sums up the problem with Baby faces in pro-wrestling.
  •  Nakazawa’s baby oil vs. Orange Cassidy’s sunglasses. Obviously, fans would love to see a match between these two.
  • The Best Friends have had a good run as a team and as solo competitors. Seeing them get the win is hopefully a sign of things to come for them.

Low Points:

  • Sean Spears cheering for Nakazawa. We know Spears is looking for a tag team partner but this felt out of place and out of character.
  • The crotch spots. Wrestling seems to have moved on from them and now they just look kinda awkward and out of date.
  • Jericho praising Kenny Omega on commentary. Both are on opposing teams so why cheer him on?

Brodie Lee Def. Lee Johnson

Highlights:

  • The Geman suplex delivered by Brodie Lee looks brutal as he gets an ample amount of distance.

Low Points:

  • Too much squash. A squash match can be a valuable tool to help build up a wrestler, but having two in one night is a little much. Also when both of their opponents are new unknowns the outcome is obvious.

Cody Rhodes Def. Sean Spears

Highlights:

  • Creativity. Give props for rearranging the guard rail and suplexing Cody onto it, or having the match end with a figure four leg lock pin.
  • Dramatic ending: Nearfalls, multiple finishers, and a close count-out all create a high tension ending to the match.
  • Wrapping it up. The rivalry between Sean Spears and Cody Rhodes has been on again off again. Hopefully, this is AEW putting it to good use and ending it once and for all.

Low Points:

  • It seems as though Cody was going to win because that would put him up against Lance Archer.
  • Watching Sean throw a chair into the ring and over to the other side of it.
