Tonight’s loaded edition of MLW Fusion included a tag team championship match between CONTRA and the Von Erichs. The second round of the 2020 Opera Cup tournament also began as Low Ki battled Richard Holliday. Additionally, Calvin Tankman wrestled his second match in MLW against Zenshi, and Violence is Forever made their in-ring debut. The latest episode of MLW Fusion can be viewed below:

Strong Points of the Show

  • I appreciated that there was some back and forth action between Tankman and Zenshi. I expected the match to pretty one sided. However, Zenshi got some good offense in which was nice to see.
  • Lio’s promo was very well done. His demeanor is coming across as egotistical and obnoxious. Which to me is perfect based on past rumors regarding his backstage attitude. That blend of possible reality and fiction is being portrayed really well.
  • Low Ki’s interest in the Caribbean Championship was an interesting touch, especially since it appears that his feud with American Top Team is ongoing. Perhaps once Low Ki’s issues with American Top team are over, he can move onto a feud with Holliday and/or the rightful owner of the championship Savio Vega.
  • I loved that the main event opened up with brawling between all four competitors. That was a perfect way to start the match, especially considering that there is a storied history between CONTRA and the Von Erichs.

Weak Points of the Show

  • Calvin’s promo following his match was not bad. However, the segment felt very similar to his post match interview two weeks ago with nothing new really being added.
  • I don’t feel like there needed to be a Tom Lawlor promo during the Violence is Forever match. Even though the outcome was predictable, Lawlor’s promo still took away momentarily from the match. Lawlor could have easily made comments post match instead, which would have prevented any interruptions from happening during the match.
  • There were parts during the interviews with Alexander Hammerstone and Mads Kruger where the audio was hard to hear. I’m not sure though if that was just on my end or if other viewers experienced similar issues

Match Results

  • Calvin Tankman defeated Zenshi.
  • Violence is Forever (Kevin Ku and Dominic Karrini) defeated Jacob Dugan and Robert Martyr.
  • Low Ki defeated Richard Holliday in a Semi Final Match for the Opera Cup Tournament.
  • Tag Team Championship Match: The Von Erichs (Marshall and Ross Von Erich) defeated CONTRA (Jacob Fatu and Simon Gotch) by disqualification due to outside interference from Team Filthy.
