MLW presented its first big event of 2021 tonight in Kings of Colosseum. As a thank you to fans, the event was hosted for free on different streaming platforms and television channels. Kings of Colosseum featured Alexander Hammerstone defending his National Openweight Championship against Mads Kruger and Myron Reed defending his World Middleweight Championship against the debuting Lio Rush. Footage from tonight’s show can be seen by watching the video below:

Strong Points of the Show

  • I really enjoyed the brawling that occurred during the opening contest. Seeing the Von Erichs and the Dirty Blondes fight all over the arena fondly reminded me of past Hardcore matches from the Attitude Era.
  • Myron Reed and Lio Rush told a great story throughout their match. As the bout progressed, I felt like Reed was fighting for both respect and his championship. This was in part due to the subtle taunting by Rush, which added an important layer of storytelling to this encounter.
  • The ending to the main event leads me to believe that there will be a rematch between Hammerstone and Krugger. If that is the case, I would love to see those two fight under a no rules type of contest.

Weak Points of the Show

  • The tag team match could have definitely lasted longer, especially since it was a title match. Despite the fun brawling in the beginning, the contest felt a little rushed.
  • I am not sure why the match between Jordan Oliver and Simon Gotch didn’t occur. On commentary they said the match not happening was a part of CONTRA’s trap. However, it feels like another case of false advertising since this match was announced weeks ago.
  • Lio’s post-match promo dragged on a little bit towards the end. His promo could have been more effective if he didn’t go on as much about his possessions and being the hottest free agent.
  • Having ACH challenge Jacob Fatu for the world championship seems a little random. Hopefully, though, that match can help establish ACH as a serious singles star in MLW.
  • Daivari’s debut fell flat to me. There was a lot happening during the end of the segment, and I feel like all of the chaos took away from Daivari’s first appearance for the promotion.
  • The ending to tonight’s broadcast felt abrupt and a tad awkward. Which was a little confusing to me since there was time left in the hour for them to have an ending that wasn’t so rushed.

Match Results

  • Bunkhouse Match for the MLW Tag Team Championship: Ross & Marshall Von Erich defeated The Dirty Blondes (Leo Brien & Michael Patrick) to retain the MLW Tag Team Championship.
  • World Middleweight Championship Match: Lio Rush defeated Myron Reed to win the World Middleweight Championship.
  • National Openweight Championship Match: Alexander Hammerstone vs Mads Krugger ended in a double count out.
