Salina de la Renta took over as executive producer for tonight’s edition of Fusion. As executive producer, Salina ordered the Von Erichs to defend their MLW Tag Team Championship against Los Parks. As an added twist, Salina added Tom Lawlor to the championship bout as a special referee. Additionally, Mil Muertes made his MLW debut by taking on Brian Pillman Jr. The latest episode of Fusion can be watched by viewing the video listed below:

Strong Points of the Show

  • I appreciated the cold open for this evening’s broadcast. The highlights of Salina de la Renta and Los Parks were a nice, subtle way to reinforce Salina’s role on this edition of Fusion.
  • Lio Rush’s promo was short but well done. Rush did a good job of getting his main point across about being the new MLW World Middleweight Champion. Plus the Lio facts in the lower left hand corner made me crack up a little.
  • I’m intrigued to see what will be shown during the Filthy Island segment on February 17th. Tom Lawlor is an entertaining heel, and I hope that the Filthy Island segment allows him to display more of his character work.
  • Injustice cut a good promo on Contra tonight. Similar to Lio Rush’s promo, Injustice didn’t have a lot of time to speak. However, both Jordan Oliver and Myron Reed made their intention of targeting Contra well known.

Weak Points of the Show

  • Low Ki’s post match promo was not the strongest. Low Ki not having a microphone was not helpful, and his statements seemed to go slightly all over the place.
  • The explanation for Konnan not being on tonight’s show was alright, but not great. Had MLW been able to shoot some footage of what Salina was describing, I feel like that would have been the most ideal situation. However, when factoring in the pandemic, I am convinced that the company had limited options in coming up with something to explain Konnan’s disappearance.
  • I thought it was an odd choice to not show Brian Pillman Jr.’s entrance. Pillman has been a prominent star for MLW for sometime, and him not getting an entrance makes his presence in MLW feel less important. Especially since he hasn’t been on an episode of Fusion since November 18th. Overall, Pillman came across as an afterthought on tonight’s show.
  • With the exception of tonight’s main event, this edition of Fusion felt a little rushed. There were a lot of segments, but none of them lasted real long.

Match Results

  • Low Ki defeated Budd Heavy by knockout.
  • Mil Muertes defeated Brian Pillman Jr.
  • MLW Tag Team Championship: Los Parks (LA Park and Hijo de LA Park) defeated The Von Erichs to win the MLW Tag Team Championship.
