The MLW World Heavyweight Championship was defended on tonight’s episode of Fusion as Jacob Fatu went one on one with ACH. Additionally, the newest member of CONTRA, Daivari, made his MLW debut against Zenshi. Simon Gotch went one on one with Jordan Oliver in a match that was originally scheduled for the Kings of Colosseum special. Salina de la Renta, Savio Vega, Richard Holliday and Mads Kruger also made their presence known throughout the hour. You can view the latest edition of Fusion by watching the video below:

Strong Points of the Show

  • Daivari looked to be in incredible shape for his debut. He appeared very comfortable and confident throughout the entire match and put on a good performance.
  • Mads Krugger’s promo was really well done. The special effects applied throughout the promo helped make the segment feel a little more eerie, which is perfect based on Krugger’s character as CONTRA’s enforcer.
  • ACH and Jacob Fatu told a great story throughout the main event. ACH in particular did a fantastic job of selling his ribs based off of the apparent attack that occurred earlier in the week.
  • Overall, there seemed to be a greater emphasis on in-ring action this week, which was awesome to see. MLW has really talented performers. And I’m glad that each match was given proper time. Especially since the last two episodes of Fusion seemed relatively rushed.

Weak Points of the Show

  • It felt weird for Jared St. Laurent to refer to ACH’s attack as brutal and then hear him say that no video of the attack exists. I get that Laurent was trying to sell the angle, but those accompanying details slightly took away from what he was saying.
  • I wish they hadn’t skipped Jordan Oliver’s entrance before his match with Gotch. Similar to Brian Pillman Jr. last week, the lack of an entrance made Oliver come across as a bit of an afterthought.
  • Not being able to see Myron Reed come to Jordan Oliver’s rescue came across oddly. You could kind of see he was in the ring. However, the framing of the post match segment between Gotch and Oliver came across weird.
  • It was not necessary for Jacob Fatu to repeat “Hail CONTRA” repeatedly during the main event. I understand that Fatu’s association with CONTRA is an essential part of Fatu’s character. However, it felt like that phrase was said too much throughout the match.

Match Results

  • Daivari defeated Zenshi via pinfall.
  • Simon Gotch defeated Jordan Oliver via submission.
  • MLW World Heavyweight Championship Match: Jacob Fatu defeated ACH via pinfall to retain the MLW World Heavyweight Championship.
