Savio Vega and Richard Holliday clashed in a Caribben Strap Match for the Caribbean Heavyweight Championship in the main event of Fusion this evening. Additionally, TJP and Bu Kao Dao squared off with Violence is Forever for a shot at tag team championships. Laredo Kid also defended his AAA World Cruiserweight Championship against Zenshi. These matches and more can be viewed by clicking on the video below:

Strong Points of the Show

  • Josef Samuel’s promo was well done. I appreciated that one of his main purposes was addressing Injustice. We haven’t heard Samuel’s perspective on the situation between CONTRA and Injustice since The Restart.
  • I appreciate the story that Filthy Island is losing funding based on their alleged attack on ACH and Lawlor’s involvement with the tag team championship match two weeks ago. I haven’t heard of wrestlers “losing their funding” because of negative actions and controversies before. The approach is fresh and unique to me, which is cool to see.
  • I was not expecting the tag team match to end the way it did. I am always a fan for being surprised and I appreciated how the conclusion of the match was handled.
  • The stoic, sarcastic nature of King Mo’s promo was perfect. The music in the background and the clips of Mo posing over Low Ki were nice touches as well.

Weak Points of the Show

  • It looked like there were blood stains on the mat during Zenshi and Laredo Kid’s match before the referee put his gloves on. Which seems a little unsanitary and gross (I totally understand that this complaint makes me sound like a prude so I apologize).
  • It was weird that Myron Reed called out CONTRA without Jordan Oliver. His promo made sense and it was good. However, it would have made more sense for Oliver and Reed to be in the segment together since both men have issues with CONTRA and they are a team.
  • Tom Lawlor’s promo ended kind of abruptly. The cutaway to the MLW Fusion logo seemed to cut off his last word which came across as a little awkward.
  • I’m not sure what Bu Kao Dao was going for at the end of the tag team match. Unfortunately his offense looked botched. That one moment, however, did not take away from the overall effectiveness of the end of the match.
  • I have never been a huge fan of the four corner rule in strap matches. Having to touch all four corners seems like a clunky, drawn out way to end the match. That being said, Vega and Holliday did a good job of putting on an entertaining contest.

Match Results

  • AAA Cruiserweight Championship Match: Laredo Kid defeated Zenshi via pinfall to retain the AAA World Cruiserweight Championship.
  • TJP and Bu Kao Dao defeated Violence is Forever (Dominic Garrini and Kevin Ku) via pinfall.
  • Caribbean Strap Match for the Caribbean Heavyweight Championship: Richard Holliday defeated Savio Vega to win the Caribbean Heavyweight Championship.
