Alexander Hammerstone and Mads Krugger fought in a Baklei Brawl for the National Openweight Championship in the main event of tonight’s Fusion. Additionally, Los Parks defended their newly won Tag Team Championship against Bu Ku Dao and TJP. The newest episode of Fusion can be watched by clicking on the video below:

Strong Points of the Show

  • I don’t know why, but seeing Jordan Oliver flip off his opponent prior to the opening match cracked me up.
  • I am digging the storyline involving Richard Holliday and Tim Donaghy. It’s really awesome that MLW was able to pull in a referee who has made headlines in the past for professional corruption. It makes the events of last week’s main event seem that much more scandalous and controversial.
  • The post match angle between TJP and Bu Ku Dao was well done. TJP did a great job of selling his annoyance towards Dao, and Dao did an equally great job looking gutted in the ring.
  • I’m glad that Calvin Tankman is coming back to Fusion next week. Tankman started off so strong when he first came to MLW, but then seemed to disappear. Hopefully Tankman can be a more prominent part of MLW starting next week.
  • The disclaimer that was shown during Team Filthy’s promo was great. It was a small, entertaining touch that helped reinforce the questionable nature of Tom Lawlor and his “Filthy Island.”
  • Gino Medina and Gringo Loco put on an enjoyable match for the most part. Both men got a lot of offense in, which was great to see.

Weak Points of the Show

  • This is a recurring complaint from last week: I don’t know they filmed Myron Reed addressing CONTRA alone again. Especially since Jordan Oliver was the member of Injustice who wrestled tonight. Reed and Oliver could have easily challenged CONTRA to a match together once the opening contest concluded as opposed to Reed issuing the challenge on his own.
  • The tag team championship match seemed to be all over the place. There wasn’t as much of a structure throughout the contest and the brawling looked random.
  • On paper, an interpromotional title fight between Lio Rush and Laredo Kid seems like it would be a great match. However, I feel like a lot of these title vs. title matches usually have an inconclusive and disappointing ending. I’m hoping though that next week’s match is different and doesn’t end inconclusively.
  • I wish that the finish of the Gino Medina/Gringo Loco match went down a little differently. Medina would have looked stronger had he beaten Loco with a finisher rather than a roll-up.
  • I do not understand the finish to tonight’s main event. It was one thing for the first match between Hammerstone and Krugger to end in a no contest. However, based on the build up, I thought that tonight’s match would serve as the final bout between Hammerstone and Krugger. I really don’t understand why they went with the finish they did. But hopefully tonight’s ending will make more sense in the next couple of weeks.

Match Results

  • Jordan Oliver defeated a Sentai Death Squad soldier via pinfall.
  • MLW Tag Team Championship: Los Parks (LA Park and Hijo de LA Park) defeated TJP and Bu Ku Dao via pinfall to retain the MLW Tag Team Championship.
  • Gino Medina defeated Gringo Loco via pinfall.
  • Baklei Brawl for the MLW National Openweight Championship: Alexander Hammerstone vs. Mads Krugger ended in a no contest.
