The National Openweight Championship was up for grabs this evening as Alex Hammerstone defended his title against LA Park. Additionally, ACH made his return to in-ring action when he took on Kevin Ku. Gringo Loco and Gino Medina also faced off in a rematch from several weeks ago. These matches and more can be viewed by watching the video below:

Strong Points of the Show

  • Gino Medina and Gringo Loco put on an enjoyable, back and forth match tonight. I appreciated that both men were able to get in considerable offense throughout the contest.
  • Alex Hammerstone cut a fantastic promo tonight before his match. Hammerstone exuded confidence and overall had a great presence throughout the segment.
  • Based on the comments from Injustice and Jacob Fatu, it appears that the feud between Injustice and CONTRA Unit will continue. I’m glad these two factions will continue to go at each other because I feel like there has not yet been a proper blow off match to end their feud.
  • All of the matches tonight had a really great length. Each contest was given time for storytelling and nothing felt rushed, which is a nice change of pace from some of the Fusion episodes from January.
  • I’m intrigued to see where the storyline between Azteca Underground and Alex Hammerstone goes after tonight. I have a feeling that the ultimate goal is to get the National Openweight Championship off of Hammerstone so that he can challenge Fatu, but time will tell.

Weak Points of the Show

  • I feel like there was no real explanation for what happened after the Baklei Brawl between Hammerstone and Mads Krugger. At one point I think they said that Hammerstone was missing, but then he appeared the next week on Filthy Island. The lack of an explanation is disappointing based on the potential storytelling that could have been done with Alex being gone mysteriously.
  • Seeing Kevin Ku wipe his bloody mouth and then touch ACH was a little gross to watch (but that is more so me being a tad germophobic).
  • I’m not sure why Tom Lawlor only came out to ringside once the match between Ku and ACH was finished. Having him at ringside throughout the whole match to interfere on Ku’s behalf and brawl with the Von Erichs would have made more sense.
  • The tag team championship match for next week between Los Parks and Injustice seems a bit random. The match would definitely be more meaningful if there had been some real build-up aside from a random announcement and a small promo from Injustice.

Match Results

  • Gino Medina defeated Gringo Loco via pinfall.
  • ACH defeated Kevin Ku via pinfall.
  • National Openweight Championship Match: Alex Hammerstone defeated LA Park via pinfall to retain the National Openweight Championship.
