Here we are, one week removed from the eventful Season Premiere of Canned Heat. The playing field for the season is set and we have a new prize in the game that’s yet to be revealed. This week, we have Lee Moriarty’s continued quest to regain his hard earned Enjoy Cup as he faces Mr. Grim. We also have an excellent tag team match between two debuting teams. With all this excitement in mind, lets plunge right into Episode Two!

Show Intro

We start the show off hot with some legal paperwork as David Lawless and Lee Moriarty come out to make Lee’s match with Mr. Grim official. Amid all the signing, Mr. Grim came out in quite the festive Christmas apparel for June, with a Christmas tree in tow to blindside Lee. Grimm proceeded to do some damage to Lee’s ribs; driving the tree into the sternum of Lee and adding some knees and kicks for good measure before walking off with Lawless. Lee is left laying on the mat in pain and the question of if he can compete tonight is raised.

The Kings of The District (Jordan Blade & Eel O’Neal) vs YoKai (Yoya & Janai Kai) [WRITER RECOMMENDED]

There is quite literally too much to gush over in this match so here’s some condensed highlights. Early on, Yoya and Jordan Blade put on an incredible technical display with each jockeying for top position. Each team utilized quick tags and some beautiful tag team offense to cut off the ring. I personally loved Jordan throwing Yoya to his corner to have Janai come in; as if to say she was ready for the fresh opponent. I have to give an individual shoutout to Yoya for hitting an absolutely mind-shattering Double Stomp into a Code Red. Eel O’Neal finished the match in brutal fashion as he hit a nasty Lariat on Yoya from behind for the three and the win for The Kings of The District.

This match firmly stands on my list of favorite matches of this year. Both teams came into this match with their working shoes firmly tied and put an absolute treat of a match. YoKai in particular, who haven’t teamed nearly as long as Eel & Jordan, showed that they’ve really gelled together as a unit in this match. Great showing overall, and I hope we get to see Round Two between these teams soon.

Lee Moriarty vs Mr. Grim (w/ David Lawless)

Pre-match, David Lawless takes to the mic and declares that Lee is unable to compete. He insists that the bell be rung and that the referee must count Lee Moriarty out. After the eight count, Lee’s music plays and out he come; bruised ribs and all to take on Mr. Grim. Through visible pain, Lee enters the ring, pops his mouthguard in and the match commences.

The majority of this match saw Mr. Grim using his powerhouse to bully around the injured Lee while Lee found sparks of energy to fight back. A lot of Grim’s offense was zeroed in on the injured ribs of Lee; even grinding Lee back first into the ring post. Lee, to his credit, used these aforementioned sparks of energy to lay down some strong strikes on Grim and even fought through pain to land a Saito Suplex. In the end, Grim squeezed the life out of Lee with a Bear Hug for the win and for David Lawless to keep the Enjoy Cup.

Post-match, as the story goes with Mr. Grim’s fallen opponents, Lee too was body-bagged. This match (and overall episode) certainly further established Mr. Grim as a serious threat in Enjoy. I’m curious to see where this saga of Lee, Lawless and the Enjoy Cup goes next but for now Mr. Grim has secured David’s grasp on the Cup.

Overall Thoughts

I liked that this episode was almost entirely focused on the ongoing feud between Lee and Lawless. While theres always been some form of segment to set up next week’s show, all we got was the match announcements at the end. Amid all this, KOD vs YoKai served as an awesome little diversion in the middle of all the Enjoy Cup drama. All of this wrapped up in a nice 46 minute package is why I keep coming back week after week.

If you thought this week was excellent, next week’s matches are looking to raise the bar. Ziggy Haim returns to the ring for the first time this season to take on the ever popular Erica Leigh. And its gonna get real physical when Tre Lamar takes on “The Neon Ninja” Facade. Be sure to head over to Enjoy Wrestling’s YouTube page and subscribe so you don’t miss out on the action!
