The latest installment of MLW Fusion Alpha was headlined by Alex Hammerstone defending his National Openweight Championship against Tom Lawlor. Additionally, the “Suplex Assassin” Alex Kane made his Fusion debut. And Aramis went one-on-one with Arez. MLW Fusion Alpha Episode #2 can be viewed below:

Strong Points of the Show

  • Arez and Aramis wrestled a fun, enjoyable match. It was hard, in a good way, to keep up with parts of the match due to the fast paced action throughout the contest.
  • Seeing the crowd get behind Budd Heavy and Budd’s reaction to the crowd’s support was heartwarming. Budd did a great job of selling Kane’s offense during and after their match. I also appreciated the counter cards that King Mo brought to ringside.

Weak Points of the Show

  • Based on the ending of Battle Riot III, I assumed that the feud between Mads Kruger and Alex Hammerstone was over. However, based on Kruger’s promo, it appears that that isn’t the case. Logically, it makes sense that Kruger would still pursue Alex on behalf of CONTRA. At the same time, I am unsure how this feud could continue in a captivating way.
  • Rich Bocchini mentioned during the broadcast that Aramis and Arez had earned a shot at the World Middleweight Championship at Fightland due to their performances tonight. But the World Middleweight Championship match for Fightland had been announced on Twitter hours before the premiere of this episode. It’s a small lack of attention to detail but not a huge deal.
  • CONTRA’s attack on Richard Holliday and Alex Hammerstone did not come across the strongest. The shots looked relatively weak, which took away from the enjoyment of the post main event angle.

Match Results

  • Aramis defeated Arez via pinfall.
  • Alex Kane (with King Mo) defeated Budd Heavy via pinfall.
  • National Openweight Championship Match: Alex Hammerstone defeated Tom Lawlor via pinfall to retain the National Openweight Championship.
