The Collective brings together many different talents; giving them all a spotlight to showcase what they can do. This year, a very special spotlight will be given to the Lucha style of professional wrestling. And at the helm of this show is GCW’s resident luchador, “The Base God” Gringo Loco.

In his recent PWPonderings interview, he discussed how long he’s had the idea for his event, The WRLD on Lucha. He also discussed the prime time slot for his show, as well as attempts to book one of the hottest luchadors: El Hijo de Vikingo.

On the idea for The WRLD on Lucha: I’ve always had this idea every time that we would have lucha show or a lucha match on the GCW show, I knew that it was a special corner…I knew that [Brett] was giving us a little bit of a space. So I passed this idea…a year or two ago saying why don’t you just give us like a couple matches and we’ll call it the Lucha corner of GCW and he didn’t really like that concept or whatever. So, WrestleMania was coming up. I was getting some steam and getting…some crowd behind me and he came to me with the idea of like we could definitely have like an entire show dedicated to lucha. I was like, oh my God, can I be on it? Like I didn’t know he was going to name the damn thing after me. And you know through my connections and through…the language barrier that I’m able to traverse. I think that this is going to be something special. Hopefully not just a one-time thing. You know, we’re going to try to do everything we can to make this a success. Hopefully, I think a lot of people who can’t make it out to Dallas will stream the show and we’ll be able to see those numbers and hopefully it’s just an overall success. So we can take continue to put Lucha Libre more so on the United States soil than it has been.

I passed the idea of the Lucha Corner about a year ago, and I wanted to call it, Lucha Corner, Lucha Exchange, something like that. So the idea…was a seed a while ago and then it kind of grew and grew and it grew into this, you know World on Lucha, GCW presents, Gringo Loco’s, you know, show or whatever. And I think that it’s been festering for a little while, especially since I started getting momentum with the crowds and…people were digging with the idea was and that I had so many connections and stuff. I think that…it was about a year and a half in the making honestly. So it’s going to be a really special night.

Gringo Loco on his show having a prime time slot: Honestly. I was definitely caught off guard by that. Friday, like prime time. I was like, okay, we need to get the top talent that we can get our hands on. Whoever’s free I’m calling them and we’re going to make stuff happen because it’s not the easiest slot to be in especially with all the competition going on. But, you know, we’re going to roll with the punches and we’re going to do the best that we can. It’s going to be a special night regardless.

On attempting to book AAA’s El Hijo de Vikingo: Many, many attempts. We have been in limbo and waiting in the waiting room on the United States government and seeing if [El Hijo de Vikingo] was going to get this visa in time and unfortunately, he hasn’t. But I can assure you that when he gets his hand on a Visa and he touches American soil, he will be in a GCW ring as soon as that happens. That I can promise you one hundred percent, so something to really look forward to the near future.

I say one of the most innovative wrestlers I’ve ever come across my entire career. Every week, every two weeks he’s coming out with another clip, whether it’s in training or in a match that people have never seen before. And that’s when you know somebody is special. They’re not just going out there copycatting everything. He’s coming up with brand new stuff that you’ve never seen. And that is a special talent if you’re able to pull that off.
