Through this Pandemic, Kaiju Big Battel has been unable to run shows. During this time, some of the company’s characters have wrestled on the indies. Most prominently, their native villain Dr. Cube took on the indies with his brand of villainy. He’s competed for companies like VxS and Blitzkrieg! Pro amongst others.

It was at Blitzkrieg where the current rumblings have begun. Blitzkrieg announced that Cube would team with Jeff Cannonball against Dan Barry & Swoggle. However, on April 12th, Blitzkrieg tweeted an update regarding this match. Because of being “…yelled at” by Kaiju Big Battel, the match had to change. Now Barry and Swoggle will face the team of Cannonball and…Dr. Redacted.

Naturally, fans would have questions about this matter. After about eight hours, Kaiju’s official account came out with a statement. In the statement, they confirmed that there have been Cube appearances on the indies that have been “unsanctioned” and “unauthorized.” Kaiju even said that these appearances “…violate Kaiju Big Battel’s copyright.”

In putting this together, I definitely had questions of my own. So, I reached out to an anonymous source to try and connect some dots. Firstly, lets revisit Blitzkrieg’s recent announcement. Blitzkrieg claims that Kaiju canceled an event that was to be hosted in Blitzkrieg’s venue. My source clarified that this was due to poor ticket sales. Kaiju poorly advertised the event and thus few tickets were sold. So their course of action: cancel the show.

Of course we also have the more important issue: the use of the Cube character. Cube made three appearances over the past few months in Blitzkrieg and per my source, this was the first sign of a problem. They clarified that Kaiju Big Battel had never given any prior warning about using their character. Regarding the appearance of Cube, Kaiju referred to the individual as a “former employee who decided to go into business for himself.” Contrary to that comment, my source claimed that the costume was in fact, lent to the person portraying Cube. Most importantly, this was to keep the brand going during The Pandemic. As of posting, I have made two attempts to reach out to Kaiju Big Battel for their side of this story. Kaiju has not yet provided their side of the story; but a follow up will be written once provided.

What Kaiju Big Battel does in the future regarding use of their characters outside of the promotion is unclear. All we can hope for is a reasonable resolution of this situation. Both companies have upcoming shows and this scenario seems to be but a bump in the road. And while each will say their piece, I for one, am looking forward to the debut of Dr. Redacted.
