In a recent interview with Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful, recent MLW signee Rickey Shane Page stated why he no longer competes in deathmatches. The former GCW World Champion said “It was too hard, the healing process was way too much.” He went on to say, “I could feel myself being afraid… and that’s when someone gets hurt, and the risks are so much greater in deathmatch wrestling.”

Yesterday RSP responded to an article with the interview, tweeting out “Not talked about in the interview is that I think most of the Deathmatch wrestling scene now a days is utter garbage. It’s FULL of clout chasers/awful wrestlers that can’t get over any other way. There’s people that I think are really really good at it and I’ve already been in the ring with them. Others that are good but were just too late. The rest of you……..nah I’m good.”

While it is unclear who Rickey Shane Page is referring to, he has competed with some of the top names in deathmatch wrestling including Nick Gage, Matt Tremont, Alex Colon, Masashi Takeda, and others. Shane has also held the CZW World Championship and H2O Heavyweight Championships as well as being a CZW Tournament of Death winner.
