Alex Zayne has sustained an injury at DDT and GCW’s joint show at Korakuen Hall in Tokyo, Japan on August 12th.
Zayne was challenging the DDT Universal Champion MAO during the main event of “Never Ending Noisy Summer” when he suffered what appeared to be a right ankle injury. He was unable to put any weight on it and could not continue the match. MAO ended up retaining the championship due to referee stoppage. The DDT Universal Champion challenged Zayne to a rematch when he is healed.
Following the stoppage, Zayne took to Twitter saying, “I’m sorry”. At the post event press conference he stated, “I am not usually a very emotional person, except for positive emotions. But today I feel like I let the fans down. And I feel like I let myself down today. I love Japan and the Japanese fans, from the bottom of my heart. Thank you for your support today, and I will be back again soon. I’m sorry. Very sorry.”
An update was later given via Twitter stating that the x-rays show that the injury isn’t serious.
Zayne was scheduled to compete alongside Gringo Loco against Masha Slamovich and Rina Yamashita at GCW’s “The Sky Is The Limit” event taking place tomorrow, as well as a singles match against Gringo Loco at GCW’s “You Only Die Once” on Wednesday. No word yet on if he’ll be able to compete or who his replacement might be.
As of right now, there’s no timeline for his return to the ring. We at PWPonderings wish Alex Zayne a speedy recovery.
