Earlier in the week Thunder Rosa, who runs Mission Pro, said that “Midsommer Blast” would be the last Mission Pro event for the foreseeable future.
The promotion has been around since 2019 and has been primarily a women’s promotion since 2020. This event featured defenses of the MPW tag team championship, the ROW Women’s Championship, and the crowning of the new Mission Cup Holder. In the main event Izzy Moreno defends the Mission Pro Championship against Thunder Rosa.
Wrestle Shop Women’s Championship: Denisse Dae (c) vs. Lynnette Dollaz
The opening match is for the Wrestle Shop Women’s Championship. Dollaz jumps Dae to open the match but is not able to keep the advantage. Dae does have a size advantage and is able to gain control of the match and chop the soul right out of Dollaz. The crowd is behind Dae, but Dollaz uses some dirty tactics to stay in the match. Dollaz tries a cross body off the ropes on Dae, but Dae catches her in midair and slams her to the mat. Dae uses her power advantage to keep control and gets the win with the Dream Slam.
Rebel Kel vs. Mia Friday
This is one of the matches that I was most looking forward to on the show. Kel, as usual, has the height advantage, but Mia has the speed advantage and can fly all around the ring. Kel misses a couple kicks and Mia answers with spinning arm drags and an arm drag off the ropes, sending Kel to the floor. Mia is able to answer and avoid anything that Kel is throwing at her, until Kel takes out Mia’s legs as she was coming back in the ring. Kel uses her strength to stay on top of Mia, but Mia hits a flurry of moves. Kel hits the Chokeslam From Kel, but is not able to put Mia away. Mia hits a bulldog off the turnbuckle for the win. Excellent match that was a battle between the powerhouse veteran, Kel and the youthful exuberance of Mia.
Nihir Robeles vs. Queen Uju
Nihir opens the match having a little fun, but Uju does not appreciate it. They exchanged chops and Uju won by knocking Nihi down. Nihir pulled Uju down from the middle rope, and rolls her into a cover, but only got a 2 count. Nihir hits a “cheek to cheek” in the corner. This is a very hard hitting match, that will have both competitors feeling it the next day. After a hard fought battle, Uju gets the win with a powerful sidewalk slam.
Mission Pro Cup: Morgan Mercy vs. Nova Phoenix vs. Gin Sevani vs. Kia Vibes vs. Alivia Rose vs. Seline Hysteria
The Mission Pro Cup represents the number 1 contender for the Mission Pro Championship. It is currently vacant, as Izzy Moreno cashed it in for her title shot. It was then stolen by Shay Carmichal, but Shay did not show up for this event. When the match starts, all the competitors team up against the tag team of Fire and Fury, Morgan Mercy and Nova Phoenix. This is not a tag team match, but those are the two biggest competitors in the match and will team up if given the opportunity. Everytime one of the wrestlers gets some offense going Mercy and Nova come in the ring and destroy all of their opponents. Fire and Fury get the win with Overkill, a bull dog/face buster combination.
ROW Women’s championship: Rache Chanel (c) vs. Carolina Cruz
They go to the outside of the ring and Carolina stretches Rachee’s arm on the ringpost Carolina is very brutal and precise with everything she does. Carolina is getting frustrated that Rache keeps coming back from everything that Carolina dishes out. Rache avoids a kick from Carolina, hits a back elbow and drops Carolina face first into the mat for the win.
Mission Pro Tag Team Championship: King Bees (Danni Bee and Charity King) vs. Red Hot (Kalientita and Ridley Thorn)
King Bees, who are also the NWA Women’s Tag Team Champions, are for sure one of the best tag teams on the independents. Red Hot matches up with them well in every category except experience as a team. Bees are making quick tags to keep the fresh person in the ring and hit some double team maneuvers. Red Hot use some underhanded tactic to focus on Danni, but they made one mistake and Bee was able to make the tag to the powerhouse of the team, King. It looks like the King Bees are about to get the victory, when Fire and Fury come out with the Mission Cup. This turns the match into a triple threat tornado tag team match. Fire and Fury are a lot fresher than the other two teams and are dominate when they enter the ring. They take out the King Bees and pin Thorn for the win.
Mission Pro Championship: Izzy Moreno (c) vs. Thunder Rosa
Thunder Rosa attacks Izzy as the bell rings. Rosa is very intense, but calculated with her attack on Izzy. Rosa takes the fight to the outside where she has the advantage. Rosa puts Izzy in the pendulum swing, hitting her head into the turnbuckles. Izzy takes everything that Rosa has and keeps coming back. She hits a flurry of offense and a cross body to the outside. She then hits another cross body on the inside of the ring, then tries to lock in the arm bar, but Rosa escapes and they exchange pin fall attempts. Izzy goes off the turnbuckle again, but gets met with a dropkick from Rosa. Rosa hits a pendulum stomp in the corner, followed by a dropkick to Izzy’s solarplex while Izzy is in the ropes, followed by a northern lights suplex, but she cannot put Izzy away.
This is an incredible match.
They exchanger strikes and Rosa hits Izzy with a DVD off an airplane spin. Izzy hits Rosa with a back cracker and locks in the armbar, Rosa tries to escape but Izzy pins Rosa’s shoulders to the mat while she is in the armbar for the win.
After the match Rosa gets on the mic. She talks about this possibly being the last Mission Pro show. Rosa says that they made a decision after the “Me Too” movement to make Mission Pro and all women’s company. She said that she suffered sexual harassment in locker rooms and wanted a place that women could perfect their craft and feel comfortable while doing it. She says that Izzy exemplifies what Mission Pro is about, because she got a lot of shit for just loving wrestling and wanting to do what she loved. Izzy brings kids to the shows the same way that Rosa brings Latino women to the shows and Izzy is the future of women’s wrestling.
Rosa brings out the locker room and talks about how amazing they all are, from Caralina continuing her career after NXT, to the King Bees starting out as ticket takers and becoming the NWA Women’s Tag Champions, and more. Rosa talks about how far women’s wrestling has come, but how much farther it still needs to come.
This was a great show with an incredible main event and very emotional post match speech from Thunder Rosa. You can watch the replay on Titlematch Network.
