Mikey Montgomery has been announced as the 7th participant in this year’s installment of AIW’s JT Lightning Invitational Tournament.
Mikey may be considered one of the favorites this year, as he has been on a roll inside and outside of AIW. In AIW, Mikey won an incredible match against Joey Janela at Absolution XVII and has awed the crowd in winning performances in multiple scramble matches. He has soared to even bigger heights at Enjoy Wrestling.
At Enjoy’s biggest show, “Immaculate”, Mikey defeated the former champion, MV Young, in a grueling match, which put him in the main event against Sonny Kiss for the Enjoy Championship. Unfortunately, for Mikey, that match was immediately after his match with MV and he was jumped by Sonny and Billy Dixon before the match. Mikey showed his toughness and gave Sonny an incredible match, but eventually came up short.
It is that toughness and never give up attitude that Mikey is going to need to win the JLIT tournament. This is Mikey’s third appearance in the tournament. In his first appearance in 2022, he lost in the first round to the eventual winner of the tournament, Derek Dillinger, in what was one of the best matches of the tournament. The next year, Mikey made it past the first round, defeating Joseline Navarro before falling in the second round in a 4-way match to Alec Price. Mikey looks to keep this slow rise going this year by making it to the finals. However, it will not be easy, with people like Dominic Garrini, Matt Makowski, Colin Delany and others already announced for the tournament.
The JT Lightning Invitational Tournament be held on September 28 at the Tadmor Shrine in Akron, OH. It will be two shows, the first starting at 12:30pm and the second at 7:30pm.
