Prestige Wrestling’s Roseland 9 took place on September 29, 2024 from the Roseland Theater in Portland, Oregon. The show can be seen for the price of free on Prestige’s YouTube channel.

This is another combined show with Deadlock Pro and West Coast Pro, with titles from all three promotions on the line.

Unfortunate weather circumstances have led to several card changes in the last few days, but the lineup top to bottom still looks great, including the reunion of SCU after four years. The announcers are Jordan Castle and Brian Zane.

Opening Contest: Prestige Wrestling Tag Team Championships – Sinner & Saint (c) vs. C4 vs. Violence Is Forever

Chhun and Ku start with some mat wrestling. S&S jump in with a cheap shot but Garrini and Rosas jump in to counter that. Rosas officially tags in and gets a small package, but once again S&S interrupt things. Williams works over Rosas’ arm and a kick from Icarus gets two. Rosas headbutts Icarus outside but can’t get the tag and tags Ku. Double dropkick to S&S. Butterfly suplex on Icarus gets two. Garrini in next with a basement lariat and kneestrike for two. Williams runs in and takes out Garrini, then the champs double team Ku.

Chhun makes a blind tag and runs wild on the champions. DDT on Williams gets two. Crowd is on fire for all of this btw. Double Cody Cutter on the champs. Assisted Powerbomb connects, but VIF breaks up the pin. VIF and C4 face off next. Garrini with a tope suicida to Rosas on the outside. Chhun tries a Cody Cutter on Ku but gets caught and VIF hits Ode to the Dragon, and Icarus runs in to steal the pin for the champs to retain.  ***½  I believe this would be what the kids call a “hot opener”.

Match Two: DPW National Championship – Adam Priest (c) vs. Ethan HD

This was an open challenge answered by Ethan. Priest attacks before the bell but Ethan is able to fight back and get a spinning elbow. Priest distracts the referee and goes low. Big chop in the corner and a snap suplex. Figure Four applied next, but HD is able to make the ropes.

Priest charges but runs into a boot. Ethan follows with a dropkick in the corner, a kneestrike and attempted German. Preist blocks and tries a low blow which misses, but HD suckers him in and gets a brainbuster for a close two. Disaster Kick by Ethan and he goes up top. Priest meets him there and tries a hurricanrana but HD holds on. He dives but misses, allowing Priest to take out the knee and lock in a single-leg crab for the tap out win.  **¾

Match Three: Kylie Rae vs. Masha Slamovich

We get a friendly handshake to start, but I suspect that won’t last long. Masha works a headlock takeover and armdrag. Kylie gets a quick shot and actually seems to be playing heel in this one. Masha clotheslines her to the outside, but Kylie grabs the leg and rams it into the ringpost. That gets a two count back in.

Gory Special from Kylie Rae, spoiled by Masha getting a rollup for two. Rae grabs the hair and throws Masha down to retain control. Vertical suplex gets two. Bow and Arrow is locked in now, but again Masha fights out and gets a quick rollup for two. Penalty Kick from Kylie and an enzuigiri from Slamovich has both women down.

Masha with a big boot for two. Kylie with a side Russian legsweep and crossface but Masha reaches the ropes. They slug it out where Slamovich gets her own side Russian legsweep for two. Kylie tries several pin attempts all for two. Slamovich with a driver for a close two. White Knight Driver connects for Slamovich to get the win.  ***

Match Four: Jaiden vs. Matt Brannigan vs. Alpha Zo

Brannigan takes some sips before engaging in a three-way test of strength, but Zo gets tired of waiting and grabs a wristlock on Jaiden. Brannigan does some pushups to increase strength for a shoulderblock which doesn’t work and Zo knocks both men down. Stereo dropkicks all hit air. Matt with a double clothesline and some corner splashes.

To the outside, Jaiden pushes Matt into a pole, then Zo follows by doing the same to Jaiden. Back in, Zo maintains control with a basement elbow on Jaiden for two. Brannigan pops back in with a double German suplex. Can we get “The Showstealer” going as a nickname for Branningan? Matt tries a flip off the top rope but nobody is home.

Zo gets a driver on Jaiden for two. Chokeslam from Matt on Zo. Brannigan goes up and hits a Swanton this time. Jaiden breaks up the pin with a Superhero Splash from the top. Double DDT from Jaiden gets two. Brannigan gets knocked outside and Jaiden gets a Code Red on Zo for the win.  **½  Good with for Jaiden, and yet another star-making performance by Brannigan.

Drexl comes out next to address his career status. Elliot Tyler interrupts the speech but Drexl still decides it’s time to walk away…and then Tyler attacks him with a chair and Conchairto to leave him laying.

Match Five: Amira vs. Athena

Athena works a headlock and gets an armdrag. Amira goes for a few flash pin attempts forcing Athena to roll outside for a break. Back in, Amira gets a cannonball in the corner. Athena rams Amira’s head into the buckle and gets a big boot to take over.

The ROH Women’s champ continues the beatdown, but gets cocky celebrating and is rolled up for two. Athena quickly grabs a submission hold and throws Amira down. Senton misses however and Amira gets a boot. She heads up and gets a crossbody splash. German suplex gets a close two.

Amira with an anklelock (Amiralock?) but Athena escapes and they slug it out which leaves both women knocked down. Athena goes shoeless and misses a cartwheel splash. Amira does not miss a corner splash, but does miss another corner cannonball. Powerslam from Athena gets two. Amira gets a tilt-a-whirl DDT and sitout powerbomb for two. Athena catches her with a wicked forearm shot for the win out of nowhere.  **¾

Match Six: West Coast Pro Championship – Kevin Blackwood (c) vs. Trevor Lee

Some mat wrestling to start ending in a stalemate. Lee extends the hand, which winds up as a sucker move and he hits a dropkick. That wakes up Blackwood who gets a legsweep and doublestomp. Outside, Blackwood kicks the leg of Lee sending him face first onto the apron.

Back in, Lee quickly gets a Shining Wizard for two. Backbreaker from Lee and he holds on. A Blue Thunder backbreaker from Lee gets another two. Penalty kick to the chest and Lee showboats a bit, then Blackwood gets a shotgun dropkick to even the odds. Release German suplex by the champion and a basement dropkick.

On the outside, Lee gets a penalty kick to regain control. He goes up top and nails a crossbody inside for two. Blackwood with a PK, but Lee back with a lariat flipping Blackwood over. Small package driver is countered with a Brainbuster from Blackwood for a close two. They head up top and Lee gets a big superplex for two. Release suplex gets another two. Lee springs to the top, but Blackwood kicks his leg out quickly and follows with a backdrop suplex. Lee rolls outside to avoid a pinfall.

Blackwood sends him back in and heads up, but dives right into a forearm shot from Lee and both men are out. Both men struggle to their feet and exchange haymakers. Collision Course by Lee gets another close two. Lee tries the Cave In but runs into an exploder suplex from Blackwood. Running boot in the corner and a double footstomp from Blackwood gets the win to retain. Really good match.  ****

Match Seven: Midnight Heat vs. SCU (Frankie Kazarian & Scorpio Sky)

This was of course originally scheduled to be the Heat vs FTR, but due to the weather and travel issues we get a reunited SCU, which I would say is more than a suitable replacement.

Pearl and Kazarian begin. Frankie gets a couple of quick armdrags and armbar. Smackdown Superstar Ricky Gibson comes in for a doubleteam to briefly give the Heat the advantage. Kazarian quickly retakes control with a spinning heel kick and tags Sky.

Gibson takes things to his corner and Pearl comes in and grabs a headlock. Sky gets a jawbreaker but Gibson quickly comes back in and grabs a headlock. Pearl in with an elbowdrop but a doubleteam attempt fails as Sky goes for the tag, but Gibson knocks Frankie off the apron to keep the Heat on offense. Sky finally manages to shake loose and tag Kazarian who takes out both the Heat.

Springboard legdrop on Pearl gets two. Backcracker and springboard cutter by Sky gets two. Pearl saves Gibson from SCU-Later and it’s chaos with all four men in. Sky and Gibson collide which has everyone down. Kaz gets tossed outside and Sky gets a small package on Gibson for two. Assisted DDT from Kazarian gets two. SCU-Later hits but Pearl pulls out the referee at two. Hot Seat by the Heat on Sky gets the win!

Was not anticipating a Heat win there, but good on them. Started slow but picked up midway through.  ***

Match Eight: DPW Championship – Calvin Tankman (c) vs. Donovan Dijak

Collar and elbow tie-up but no one gets the advantage. Jumping clothesline from Dijak but he cannot get a vertical suplex so he headbutts instead. Tankman avoids a corner attack and hits Dijak with a pounce, sending him bouncing off the ropes to the outside in a crazy spot.

They go clubberin’ on the outside and roll back in. Tankman with a suplex that gets one. Dijak gets a boot up and a chopfest breaks out. Dijak gets an impressive release vertical suplex for two. Chokeslam attempt is countered with a lariat by Tankman for two. Straight right hand knocks Dijak down. Tankman goes to the middle rope but gets superkicked and then avalanche chokeslammed down for two.

Dijak goes up and gets a moonsault for two. Rolling elbow is countered by Tankman with a back elbow of his own for two. To the apron and Tankman knocks Dijak to the floor then follows with a tope suicida. Tankman goes to he top and gets his own moonsault for a two count.

Dijak escapes a suplex and gets a superkick but walks into a headbutt. Rolling big boot from Dijak gets two. Tope con hilo to the outside by DD. Dijak dives off the top rope, but gets caught in the Tankman Driver and the champion retains.  ***½ A completely enjoyable big man match.

Main Event: Prestige World Championship – Alan Angels (c) vs. Mustafa Ali

Angels sporting a sweet mustache for this one. Ali does some trash talking to antagonize the champion and we get a slugfest. Ali chops him down, but Angels gets a side kick and his own chop. Quick hurricanrana sending the champion to the floor.

Outside, Angels pushes Ali into the ringpost and jaws with some fans. He dives under the bottom rope, but Ali catches him and DDTs him on the floor. Ali with a springboard moonsault back inside for two. Angels grabs the ring apron causing Ali to charge at him, but he misses and hits the floor.

Back in, the champion maintains control with a lariat for two. Stuffed piledrive from Angels for two. Angels Wings countered, but a fisherman’s buster connects for two. Ali manages a superkick and jumping tornado DDT to even the odds. Rolling neckbreaker by the challenger and he goes up top. 450 splash is avoided and Angels sends Ali into the middle buckle and gets a DDT.

Angels Wings again can’t connect and Ali rolls the dice for two. German suplex by Ali. He goes back up again, and Angels greets him with a kneestrike there. Ali slips out and gets a sitout Liger Bomb. 450 splash hits but the champion kicks out at two. Spinning heel kick from Ali, but Angels gets a low blow and Halo Strike for two.

Ali comes back with a Sharpshooter as Sinner and Saint run out to cause a distraction. Angels stacks up Ali for a pin with his feet on the ropes but the ref catches it. S&S get dual belt shots on Ali, and Angels gets a poison rana and Angels Wings, but Ali just slides out of the pin attempt at two. Everyone watching bought that one, including me. Angels gets a chair and swings, but hits the top rope and the chair bounces off his head.

Ali takes out the tag team champions and the crowd fires up. Angels gets the chair and clocks Ali in the side with it for the disqualification. Match was crisp as you’d expect and the closing 5 minutes were insane before the DQ finish.  ***¾

Post match, C4, Jaiden and Amira team up on Angels ending with Jaiden getting a belt shot on the champion.

Final Thoughts:  Despite multiple late card changes due to bad weather, Prestige once again delivered a quality show. Specifically, Blackwood/Lee, Tankman/Dijak and Angels/Ali are all worth going out of your way to see and the tag title triple threat to open was also excellent.

  1. Thought you was a bit harsh on Athena & Amira rating. Everything Athena touches is gold at the minute. I also didn’t enjoy SCU vs Midnight Heat at all. Very flat. I can see why TK gave up on SCU tbh.
