After a very exciting night 1, PWA looks to continue the momentum with Night 2. Night 2 will have the semifinals and finals of the Colosseum Tournament, the wrestling debut of a rugby star, an All-Star vs Colosseum Contenders match, and more.
Semi-finals match for PWA Championship: Jessica Troy (c) def Kai Drake
Big entrance for Kai Drake highlighting his Chinese heritage, and Jess comes out with butterfly wings. Jess focuses on the arm early. Kai retaliates with his vicious strikes. Kai impressively counters a meteora with a single leg crab, but Jess escapes. Jess locks in the arm bar, but Kai gets to the ropes. Jess smashes his arm against the post, then hits a meteora on him as he is hanging upside down in the corner. Jess locks in an armbar after spinning Kai around. Kai tries to hold on, but is eventually forced to tap out
Semi-finals Match: Tommy Knight def Big Fudge
Knight has a decisive size and strength advantage and uses it early to dominate Fudge. Knight starts to get a little over arrogant and Fudge hits a dive on him on the outside, but Tommy regains control and hits a brainbuster for the win. Big Fudge put up a bit of a fight, but Tommy Knight was just too big and strong for him.
6-pack Challenge: Rhys Angel def Hari Singh, Mitch McCarthy, Bobby Bishop, Tony Sin and Everett Conners
Everett Conners gets the full Backslide Girlz entrance, minus the bears that came out the night before. There is lots of craziness in this match including Conners hitting a Spanish Fly and taking out three of his opponents with it. Rhys Angel gets the win with a Butterfly DDT on McCarthy, after Mitch missed a moonsault attempt.
North Shore Wrestling def The Dropouts
The Dropouts come out having a lot of fun, while NSW looks dead serious. The Dropouts have the crowd singing and dancing. This is a match between the upper-class Australians, NSW and the working class, The Dropouts. The North Shore wankers, as the crowd is calling them, have the advantage until Scotty hits a step up enziguri off one of the NSW members on the other.
Tuckman gets the tag for The Dropouts and hits a crossbody on both members of NSW. NSW hits Tuckman with a Shining Wizard and double team cutter, but Scotty breaks up the pin attempt. Tuckman hits a great springboard cutter but only gets a two count. The Dropouts hit a superplex and frog splash combo, but NSW made a blind tag and The Dropouts hit it on the wrong person. The legal NSW member hits Scotty low while Tuckman was arguing with the ref. They then hit Scotty with a buckle bomb and assisted power bomb for the win.
Jack Bonza and James Graham (who is a star rugby player) def The Regime, Ricky South and Beckman
This is Graham’s first ever pro wrestling match. The Regime has been stating that Graham would not last two minutes in a wrestling match. South and Graham start the match. Graham hits a couple arm drags and tags in Bonza. Graham attempts a crossbody off the ropes, but Beckman catches him and The Regime take over control. Grayson Waller is in the crowd rooting for The Regime, or more accurately rooting against James Graham.
Graham goes for a spear on South, but South pulls the ref in front of him. The ref takes the spear, and South hits a piledriver on Bonza. Waller comes to the ring and distracts Graham. Beckham hits Graham in the back with a chair and then all three of them hit Graham with chairs. Another ref comes out, but The Regime only gets a two count. Graham and Bonza throw the Regime to the outside, Graham hits a dive on all three. Bonza hits a pile driver on South, then Graham hits a spear on South for the win.
After the match Waller comes in the ring and gets in Graham’s face, he punches Graham, but Bonza gives him a slingshot on the ropes and Graham hits him with a spear.
All Stars def Colosseum Contenders
Robbie Eagles, Aaron Jake, Ben Braxton, Bel Pierce def Charli Evans, Lena Cross, Ricky Utomi, Robbie Thorpe
From the start, it does not appear that the All-Stars team is going to get along. Lena manhandles the tag team champions, AJ and Bel, then counters a headscissor from Eagles with a power bomb. There was a really fun pin attempt from Utomi on Eagles. The All Stars teamed up on Chevs, then all the Contenders team up on Jake. Lots of action ensues, with everyone coming in and out of the ring, as this is a lucha rules match. Braxton is taking out everyone, including his teammate Jake before hitting a moonsault to the outside. Braxton gets the victory for his team.
Braxton is a very large wrestler who is incredibly athletic. He was very impressive in this match and I hope to see a lot more of him. Lena Cross also impressed in this match. Even though she did not win a match this weekend, I feel like she was a winner and will leave with a lot of people talking about her.
Finals of the Colosseum Tournament and for the PWA Heavyweight Championship: Jessica Troy (c) def Tommy Knight to win the tournament and retain the title
They start out quick, which is what Jess wants to do, so she can avoid his strength. Tommy slows down the match and starts tossing Jess around. Jess hits a flying DDT through the ropes onto the outside. They exchange strikes as they go through the crowd. They fight up to the bar and Tommy spits beer in Jess’s face. Tommy charges at Jess, but hits the pole, he grabs a beer from a fan, but Jess kicks him in the head.
Jess goes up to the balcony, mum holds her hand and says don’t do it, but Jess dives onto Knight anyway. They fight back and forth in the ring with Knight showing off some of his deceptive speed. Knight goes for a spear but Jess counters with and arm bar. They have an incredible exchange, but Jess knows she can’t keep exchanging strikes with the big man and locks in an armbar.
Jess hits a meteora from the top, then another meteora for a two count. Knight hits a big spear and then a brainbuster, but only gets a two count. Knight is getting frustrated that he cannot put Jess away. Knight misses a tsunami attempt. Jess spins atop of Knight and locks in the armbar. Knight picks up Jess from the armbar position and hits a powerbomb, but she locks the armbar back in. Jess locks in the legs and forces him to tap out.
The confetti and balloons come down on Jess. Charli Evans comes in the ring and gives her a big hug. North Shore Wrestling comes out and Charli gives Jess a superkick, they give Jess a triple neckbreaker and Charli stands tall with NSW.
The event wasn’t as big on paper as the first day was, but I feel that it delivered. I thought the main event was as good or better than night one and really enjoyed the All-Stars vs Contenders match.
Jessica Troy’s stardom in Australia rose even more this weekend and she has proven time and time again that she deserves to be called the top wrestler in Australia. Tommy Knight also really impressed this weekend. His match against Lena Kross was probably the best match of the weekend that did not include Jessica Troy. Lena showed she is someone that is on the rise and I have no doubt that she will be in the conversation of other great Australian women’s wrestlers like Steph De Lander, Shazza McKenzie and Charli Evans.
