Interview: Mylo talks Hoodslam, B3CCA, Dark Sheik, AFA, Johnnie Robbie, and More

In PWPonderings’ latest exclusive interview, Scott Mitchell (@Scott44Mitchell) sits down with the “Macdaddy” herself, Mylo (@macdaddyymylo). Mylo talks about how she got into wrestling, Hoodslam, winning the GLAMpionship, her upcoming matches with Johnnie Robbie, Tyler Bateman, and so much more. Watch it in its entirety below.

When and why did you get into professional wrestling growing up?

“I used to watch it with my mom, and I also had neighborhood kids who I’d go to their house and play the video game with. It’s something that always fascinated me. I always thought this was what I wanted to do. You see other people doing it, so why can’t I do it too? Fast forward a few years, when I moved to California, I moved here on a whim. I told my family I was going to school, but I didn’t want to go to school. And I found wrestling along the way. I signed up for a wrestling school and from there it unfolded. I feel like I found a new love for wrestling that I didn’t know as a kid. I didn’t even know about independent wrestling until I joined a wrestling school. To be fair, when I first started wrestling, I thought I would just go to wrestling school and get picked up. That’s how simple I thought it was, I miss being that naïve, but it doesn’t work like that. I’ve learned a lot and I’m grateful I love the independent scene. I’m happy and I’m looking to expand my name outside of the West Coast slowly but surely.”

What was your first day of training like?

“Brutal. Very brutal. I know I’m one of the only people in this business who will say it but I don’t like working out. I’ll do it, and I will. But, I don’t like working on it. I’m not happy doing it. What helps me in training and group settings is looking around and realizing I’m not alone while doing it. That helps me get through everything and finish. I always feel better afterward. It’s just the process of it that’s so hard. At the same time, it’s so beneficial and so necessary. So, I understand going through blow-up drills and keeping up with your cardio.”

What’s it like to work for the Hoodslam promotion and be a part of that locker room?

“Hoodslam is just one of those shows.  It’s unmatched and I think running every first Friday of the month is a good way to keep up with storylines and what’s happening. Also, the fact that they stream on TrillerTV, is super cool. The following Tuesday at 8 p.m. I’m so grateful to be a part of it and so grateful for every drive up to be able to say I’m doing this. Now to have a show in honor of me, Friday, Feb. 7th is crazy. The locker room is an amazing one, I might add. There are a lot of tough cookies there. It’s a very inspiring locker room. It’s very cool to see a lot of people from different walks of life. It’s wrestling and we come together to make something so special like Hoodslam. I’m so grateful for it every day. Everyone in that locker room is so genuine and caring and we all just want to have a great show. We pull together every first Friday of the month.”

When you found out you were getting your own Hoodslam show, “Poptopia: Mylo’s Divas Era’s Tour,” what went through your mind?

“At first, I was like wait this is crazy, I’ve never really had something like this. Then, I was like about time. I am the GLAMpion after all. It’s only fair. They need it new, nice little face of the company, and I think I could be that face. Keita and I have a good thing going on. Mayra could have been tagging along, but she’s just going her own route right now, I guess.”

On Friday, Feb. 7 (airing on Tuesday, Feb. 11 on TrillerTV) you will be defending the GLAMpionship against B3CCA. What’s your mindset for heading into that match?

“I’ve worked with B3CCA once around 2021ish. I’m not sure about her but I know I was very green at the time. But now I’m going into it with a whole different mindset. I’m a brand-new person and she’s not getting her hands on my GLAMpionship. She may be an international pop star, but I’ll still leave Hoodslam, the GLAMpion.”

Where did things go wrong with you and Might Mayra?

“I don’t know. She said something about me being selfish and not listening to her. I wasn’t paying attention. But I just feel like Mayra is going her own way. We were in this together for so long and we both built a strong foundation. Like, why would you disrupt any of that? Then Jeff The Shark got involved and it became this whole thing. He took my championship from me, on her account by the way. I’ll never forget that. I’m not sure where Mayra’s head is at, and it doesn’t make sense to me. I guess we’ll just have to see how everything plays out. I wish her the best.”

What was it like working with Joey Janela to win the champion ship and doing it all with Mayra by your side?

“That was amazing. That was one of my favorite matches when I look back at it. It was a lot of fun and a lot of cool things I got to do that I never really pulled out in matches before. Just having Mayra by my side, look at the good times girl, but she wants to go her own route.”

On Feb. 15th, you’ll be going one-on-one with Dark Sheik herself for your GLAMpionship. What are your thoughts heading into that match?

“Dark Sheik and I had an “I Quit” match a few years ago, which was arguably one of my favorite matches I’ve ever had. I feel like we could piggyback on that. We haven’t worked together since then I believe. But wrestling Sheik is one of my favorites and I know San Diego is going to be a lot of fun. I’m very excited. She’s still not winning my GLAMpionship.”

On Feb. 27th, you’ll be working with Tyler Bateman at Alliance for All Wrestling. What’s your mindset heading into that one?

“Yeah… That’s crazy. I’m going to avoid chops, that’s for sure. Probably going to avoid a lot. He’s very tall and strong. But I’m smart and quick. It’s a very interesting match-up. But I’m pretty sure I got this in the bag… I’m almost positive…  I’m a little worried… No, I’m not.”

On March 8th, you’ll be working with someone you know very well, Johnnie Robbie at RIVAL. What’s your mindset heading into that?

“Johnnie and I met at MPW, and from there we became pretty close. I’d say she’s one of my close friends in wrestling. She’s another genuine human. We have a lot of history. There are a few matches you can go back and watch them on YouTube. I’m excited about that match. She’s one of my favorite opponents that I’ve had, and I just know we’ll be able to make a good story.”

What went through your head when you saw yourself ranked at #361 on the PWI500 for 2024?

“Shocked. It’s hard to give yourself credit sometimes. When I saw that I just thought it was crazy. It just gives me more motivation for next year. Next year we’re going to try and beat what I did last year, and that’s my mindset every year. It helps fuel the fire.”

What’s next? Any future goals or opponents you’d like to face?

“I am just focusing on a little bit of a rebrand. A little bit of something different. I just want to keep elevating. I want to expand more outside of something I’ve been used to the past few years. I think it’s about time I just start, especially if I want to make it on the independent scene. I want to be up there with the big names. I want to be ranked higher on the PWI lists. I want to debut for promotions I’d never thought I’d ever debut for. As for opponents, I’m really down for whoever wants the smoke. It’s hard to navigate who. A huge dream opponent of mine would be Nikki Bella or Mercedes Mone. When it comes to independent wrestling, I’m down for whoever wants to come my way.”
