After suffering a ruptured bicep in a tag team match against The Cogars at a GCW event on January 31st, Joey Janela kept working through his injury. He was hoping to work through the injury and delay surgery until after WrestleMania week and his scheduled match against Sabu at Joey Janela’s Spring Break 9.
Things got worse during GCW/JCW Jersey J-Cup weekend. He worked a match against Atticus Cogar in the opening round on night one, losing to his rival. Then suffered an attack from Cogar after getting involved in Cogar’s second round match on night two against Sidney Akeem. Janela had to undergo surgery on February 17th.
Janela took to Twitter today and stated, “Despite my untimely injury and what that might mean for the scheduled main event of Spring Break 9, I’ll be working hard to make this the greatest independent spectacle of all time!”
When someone replied, “RVD for Sabu’s for last match”, Janela tweeted:
If I’m not wrestling on the show Sabu won’t be wrestling on the show, as simple as that. Even if I’d have to create a new Joey Janela spectacle show for summer. That match belongs to me and I don’t deserve to have it taken from me..I’ve sacrificed too much not to be selfish this time..
As of right now, there’s no return date set for Janela and it is unknown if he’ll be back in time for his scheduled match against Sabu at Spring Break 9. It seems likely that there will be another Joey Janela themed show during the summer, hosted by Game Changer Wrestling.
Joey Janela’s Spring Break 9 will take place on Friday April 18th at the Palms Resort in Las Vegas, Nevada. The event will be streamed live on TrillerTV+.
