On Saturday, March 1st, GCW returned to Los Angeles for it’s show, “The Coldest Winter 3.” The event saw a ton of great action and big moments, but perhaps none was bigger than the segment which saw Joey Janela present Sabu with the Indie Wrestling Hall Of Fame plaque.
Janela and Sabu were scheduled to meet in a match at Joey Janela’s Spring Break 9. Unfortunately, Janela ruptured his bicep back on January 31st in a tag team match against The Cogar Brothers. Despite doing his best to work through the injury and delay the surgery he would inevitably need until after WrestleMania week, plans changed.
The chances of the match happening looked very bleak, especially with Janela telling a fan on Twitter there’s a “zero percent” chance the match is going to happen. Two weeks ago, Janela would get surgery to fix his ruptured bicep, but is clearly not 100% by any means.
In Saturday’s segment, Janela cut a promo on how Sabu doesn’t care about the fans and the Sabu who changed the business forever is “dead.” This drew out an angry Sabu who attacked Janela. Sabu left Janela a bloody mess, using skewers and even his “Indie Wrestling Hall Of Fame” plaque.
When Sabu began making his way to the back, Janela grabbed a microphone and told Sabu he will see him at Spring Break 9. The match was then made official. While it was uncertain at times, especially with Janela’s injury, Sabu will indeed meet Janela in what will likely be Sabu’s retirement match.
