HCW “Ascending the Queendom II” Recap and Review

Hooligan Championship Wrestling (HCW) presented “Ascending the Queendom 2” on May 5, 2024 in Evansville, Indiana. It is now available On Demand on IWTV.

This event was the largest women’s wrestling show in the state of Indiana, consisting of 30 female wrestlers. There were stars from TNA, NWA, OVW and independent companies all over the country. The commentary on the broadcast was by Nick Maniwa, who did an incredible job and was very knowledgeable about all of the competitors.

HCW has only been around for about a year, but has quickly become known as one of the top independent promotions. Going into this event, the women’s champion is Arica Demia (who would defend the title in a 4-way match in the main event), the women’s heritage champion, Kenzie Paige (who was not able to make the event due to NWA obligations) and a women’s tag champion to be crowned at the event.

At the first “Ascending the Queendom” event Ashlyn Alexander defeated Alice Crowley and Nixi XS to win the tournament. I spoke with Ashlyn recently and asked her about HCW, and she said, “HCW is such an amazing promotion to work for. Being at HCW has helped me meet so many new people. I’ve gotten the chance to wrestle people I have yet to work with, and it is all around just an amazing time each show. HCW has an amazing women’s division and is the perfect place to go out there, be yourself and just have fun! The crowd is always on fire and into each match from start to finish.”

Ashlyn would not be in the tournament this year, but will take on one of her toughest challenges yet in former OVW champion, J-Rod, who was insulting the crowd before the show even started.

First Round of the Ascending the Queendom Tournament: Rachel Armstrong defeats Davina Thorne

Our first match is a First Round matchup between Rachel Armstrong and Davina Thorne. Rachel is one of the top wrestlers in the Midwest and Davina really seems to like herself. Davina has only been wrestling since February, she has the personality and look down, but may need a little more ring time to be on Rachel’s level, as far as wrestling goes. Rachel picks up the win with a suplex into a bridge.

First Round of the Ascending the Queendom Tournament: Tootie Lynn def Sierra

The second first round match is between two veterans of the Midwest, Sierra and Tootie Lynn. This is a great back and forth match up. Tootie is the crowd favorite, as Sierra takes a lot of shortcuts. Both of these wrestlers are incredibly smooth in all of the maneuvers that they deliver. Tootie Lynn picks up the victory with a kick to the head and will meet Rachel Armstrong in the finals.

HCW Women’s Tag Championship (Vacant): Allie Albright and Leela Hall def Mila Johnson and Kasie Clay

The next match is to crown the inaugural HCW Women’s Tag Champions and it pitts Allie Albright and Leela Hall against Mila Johnson and Kasie Clay. I had not seen a lot of any of these competitors, so I was very excited to see what they were all about. Allie and Leela came out on top, but I was really impressed with Kasie and Mila and would love to see them both back at HCW, possibly as singles competitors. Mila Johnson was the most experienced in this match and really shined, however she was attacked by her partner, Kasie after the match.

After this match, we get a promo from Ava Brooks who says that she will be coming to HCW very soon. Ava is from the Pittsburgh area. She has been wrestling for less than a year, but has already picked up some gold and has been in the ring with the likes of Katie Arquette, Jody Threat, and Masha Slamavich.

Bullpen Pro Immortal Championship: Larkan (c) def Blair Onyx

Our next match is for the Bullpen Pro Immortal Championship and is a battle between two big and differing personalities, as the champion Larkan defends her title against Blair Onyx. Blair has a little bit of a different look, as she has very long nails/claws as she comes to the ring, and is not sure what to make of Larkan, who is still looking for her missing (invisible) knife. Larkan uses her usual mind games, as she places a facemask of Blair on Blair’s face. Most people might not know what to make of Larkan, but they are clearly cheering for her. This match is very odd, but very entertaining. Both wrestlers are great at their characters, but also very good wrestlers. One of my favorite things about Larkan is that while a lot of wrestlers are their characters only during their entrances, Larkan is 100% her character through the whole match. This was a very fun, competitive match that Larkan wins with her “Love Bomb” DDT.

Mercy def Aminah Belmont

In our next match Aminah Belmont takes on Mercy. They are both from Evansville, but Mercy is clearly the fan favorite. Belmont is the most experienced and accomplished wrestler, as she is currently the Chicago Style Wrestling Women’s Champion and former ZOWA Emperess Champion. Belmont is extremely entertaining in the match, but Mercy is able to match her energy and pick up the win.

Noelle Summit, Alice Crowley, Dixie Douglas and Heather Blue def Big Mama, Karter Cauffman, Riley Mathews and Stella Buho

There is a 8 person tag match next with a lot of big personalities. Noelle Summit, who is a possessed marionette, Big Al (Alice Crowley), Dixie Douglas, and Heather Blue take on NWA’s Big Mama, OVW’s baseball playing superstar Karter Cauffman, the bright and colorful Riley Mathews and Stella Buho (who is an owl). This was my first time seeing Stella, and I was very impressed and entertained by her. I also thought Riley Mathews was very impressive in this match and really showed off some of her athleticism. However, Heather Blue is able to pick up the victory for her team.

Bullpen Pro Women’s Championship Xia Brookside (c) def Brittany Jade

TNA’s Xia Brookside defends her Bullpen Pro Women’s Title against Brittany Jade in what I thought was one of the best matches of the night. Brittany has really been having some great matches recently, including a match against Laylah James at Belle to Bell. Brittany starts off the match really laying into Xia physically and the crowd verbally, but Xia fights back. Xia picks up the victory with a DDT.

Ashlyn Alexander def J-Rod

The former OVW Women’s Champion, J-Rod takes on the Power Rough Girl Ashlyn Alexander in a very hard hitting affair between two of the toughest women on the card. J-Rod is vicious, as usual, to start the match, but Ashlyn comes back with a headbutt and her signature running crossbody. J-Rod tries to use a chain, but spits water in the ref’s face and it is Ashlyn who is able to use the chain and pick up the victory.

We see a video from Fallyn Grey, who says that she will make her HCW debut on October 18. Fallyn is out of Arizona and recently made a big impact at DREAMWAVE by defeating Brooke Havok at Uprising Women Athletes 5 and having a great match against Brittnie Brooks at DREAMWAVE X.

Ascending the Queendom Finals: Rachel Armstrong def Tootie Lynn

The finals of the Ascending the Queendom II is an incredible match between Tootie Lynn and Rachel Armstrong. This was a very even match with both competitors showing why they are two of the best unsigned wrestlers. Rachel wins with a super kick, short ddt combo and Ashlyn comes to the ring to hand over the crown

Alexis Littlefoot def Big Mama

The NWA Women’s TV Champ and 1/2 of NWA Tag team champ Big Mama replaces Kylie Paige. Littlefoot is great on the mic before the match and Big Mama, working her second match of the night, is as good as she has been in her career. Alexis gets the win with her feet on the ropes and has to be looking for her HCW Heritage Championship match with Kenzie.

HCW Women’s Championship Fatal 4-way: Airica Demia (c) def Gabby Forza, Brittnie Brooks and Angel Metro

The main event is a 4-way match between Angel Metro, Gabby Forza, Brittnie Brooks, and HCW women’s champion, Arica Demia. All of the women are fan favorites except for the arrogant Brooks. Brittnie is actually great as the egotistical wrestler in this match, and the other wrestlers quickly get annoyed and team up on her. Gabby shows off her strength by picking up Brittnie and slamming her into three corners, then picking up Angel and Airica at the same time. However, Gabby is the first to be eliminated after Angel hits a scorpion kick, and everyone piles on her. Brooks is eliminated next by Arica, and it is down to Angel and Airica. Angel may have been the least known person in the match, but has looked very impressive. However, Airica is able to get the win by submission.

You can watch this show, and all the previous HCW shows on IWTV. HCW’s next shows will be a double header at The Arena in Jeffersonville, Indiana. “Shattered Dreams” and a Queendom event, “Independent Road” which will feature Allie Albright and Leela Hall defending their tag team titles against Lizzy and Payton Blair. Also scheduled to appear is Noelle Summit, Alice Crowley and Ashlyn Alexander.
