Prestige Wrestling 7/13/25 Combat Clash ‘25 Review

Prestige Wrestling’s now annual stadium show, Combat Clash ‘25, took place on 7/13/25 from the Viking Pavillion in Portland, Oregon. This is the most attended Prestige event of all time with 1,400 fans in the building.

The commentators are Jordan Castle and Brian Zane.

Opening Contest: Combat Clash Battle Royal

Several competitors are already in the ring, and we get an entrance for Jaiden. Then the ring announcer declares himself an entrant, followed by Drexl joining us. The ring announcer bit is kind of fun as he announces the eliminations while participating, including his own when he’s eliminated. Tough to keep track of things early but as things clear out the Hammer Brothers and Sid Sylum go at it, with Jack getting tossed.

The remaining participants gang up to dump Sledge Hammer. The Flamin’ Aces get a chance to shine next. Sylum tosses Zaye Perez, leaving him with Jaiden, Jiah Jewell and Elliot Tyler. Sylum takes out Jewell, leaving Jaiden alone with Sylum and Tyler. Jaiden manages to toss out Sylum with an assist from Jewell, and a brawl breaks out on the floor which distracts the referees who then miss Jaiden tossing Tyler. So instead we get the Royal Rumble 1997 finish and Tyler dumps Jaiden which the referees do see.  **

Match Two: Travis Williams vs. Jordan Cruz

Winner is the special guest referee for the World Title match later this evening. Williams goes after the leg early on, briefly getting a bow and arrow before a break. Rollup gets two, and Williams goes for the Professional Lariat, but Cruz just busts through it and gets a lariat of his own to take over. Cruz locks in a cravat, but Williams breaks free and gets two Professional Lariats and a brainbuster for two. Armbar is applied, but Cruz dumps him over the top to the outside to escape that. Cruz goes for a superplex but can’t get it, leaving him hanging on the buckles and Williams gets a dropkick and an avalance side suplex for two.

Cruz gets a kneestrike and sitout powerbomb for two, as Williams transitions that right into a crossface. Jordan makes the ropes to break and gets a neckbreaker. Running knee connects for Cruz and gets a corner DVD for two. German suplex hits and a small package for two. Cruz gets No More Sorrow but the injured leg causes him to delay the pinfall attempt, allowing Williams to counter into a single leg Boston Crab for the tapout win. That match built well and got better as it went on.  ***½

Post-match Cruz knocks out Williams and piledrives him onto a steel chair.

Match Three: Matt Brannigan vs. Matt Cardona

The more I watch Matt Brannigan, the more I think he should win the award for Best Entrance on the Indies. I’m not sure if such an award exists, but it should and he should have it. We get some comedy early as Brannigan baits Cardona in to helping him do a kip up and then armdrags him down instead. Cardona tries to take a walk, but gets chased down and hit with an atomic drop.

Back in, Cardona shoves the ref away and goes low to take the advantage. He chokes Brannigan with his shirt for more heat and applies a chinlock. Brannigan breaks that with a side suplex. Clothesline knocks Cardona down and gets an Iconoclasm for two. Brannigan with a chokeslam (!) for two.

Cardona comes back with an Unprettier but only gets two. He goes for the Internet Championship belt but instead receives a full-nelson slam on the title for two. Another low blow from Cardona and Radio Silence lands but only gets two. Cardona misses a dive from the top allowing Brannigan to hit Butt Chin Music and then rolls him up for the upset win!  **½  Pretty much exactly what you’d expect from these two. Good for Matt.

Match Four: The IInspiration vs. Brooke Havok and Elayna Black

Havok is replacing Bea Priestley in this one due to travel issues. Black starts with McKay and Lee quickly comes in with a double axehandle. Black rams her into the buckle and tags out to Havok. All four women come in as the IInspiration maintain control and hit their pose. Black uses a cheap shot to take over on McKay. Havok tags in and hits the chinlock. Doubleteam is avoided by McKay and she gets tag to Lee who runs wild with clotheslines. They head to the corner and Black gets a superkick for two. Kneestrike from Lee evens things out. We get the 2 on 2 staredown and brawl and the IInspiration get the Idolizer on Havok for the win.

It is announced that due to the attack earlier, Travis Williams cannot be the special referee for the main event.

Match Five: Man Like Dereiss vs. Jordan Oliver vs. Cody Chhun vs. Mustafa Ali

Ali and Oliver shine early and face off, but each get rolled up for two. A pinfall sequence ends with Chhun getting a two count on…everybody, and we continue. Ali gets a tornado DDT on Dereiss, but Chhun comes in with an inverted atomic drop and a dropkick. Oliver comes in to clean house next but Dereiss cuts him off with a superkick as Ali charges and runs into the post. German suplex on Chhun and 619.

We get a wacky corner spot which ends with Ali getting a giant neckbreaker and several counts of two. A series of kicks are exchanged culminating with a clothesline from Oliver and we set up in the corner for the giant superplex spot which gets two for Dereiss. Oliver and Chhun exchange chops on the apron. We get a slick spot with Ali and Oliver that results in a sliding DDT. Dereiss with a uranage on the apron to Ali, and Chhun ends that sequence with a tope con hilo. Ali scoots away and lands a wicked looking tope suicida to the outside on everyone. 450 Splash is avoided by Oliver and he gets a cutter. Dereiss with a destroyer on Oliver, and goes for his own 450 which misses. Top rope rana by Oliver into a Cody Cutter on Dereiss and another on Oliver gets the win for Chhun. Good for him.  ***½

Timeless Toni Storm joins us next. Luther is not here tonight, which brings out Drexl. Toni offers a replacement for Luther in the form of a former Drexl student whom Drexl immediately takes out. Instead, we get Su Yung which leads to…

Match Six: Drexl vs. Su Yung

Su Yung immediately goes for the mist and puts on a party hat, but Drexl comes back with a neckbreaker and a lowpe suicida. Brawling on the floor with Yung getting tossed into some chairs. They climb up into the crowd for some more including a suplex by Drexl onto concrete. Back to ringside, they both go for chairs as the fans chant for blood. Yung backdrops Drexl onto a pile of chairs and follows with a side suplex for two. Drexl comes back with a DDTand sets up some chairs in the ring and heads to the corner, but Yung is up and powerbombs Drexl through the chairs for a two count. She goes for an airplane spin but Drexl counters with three suplexes onto the chairs and then hits a piledriver on the chairs for the win.

Match Seven: Prestige World Tag Team Championships – Midnight Heat (c) vs Dark Order (Evil Uno and John Silver)

Eddie Pearl with the haircut and clean shave. He starts with Uno. Uno wins the shoulderblock war and tags Silver who runs wild and gets a powerbomb on Gibson. Stereo 10-count punches in the corner and a meeting of the minds for the champs sending them to the floor. Pearl runs interference to give the champs the advantage on Silver. Gibson misses a corner charge and tags Pearl, who runs in just in time to prevent the Dark Order tag.The crowd gets on The Heat for their superior tag team tactics for some reason.

Silver gets a German suplex but Gibson knocks Uno off the apron before a tag can be made. Rollup gets two. Back Stabbath connects for another two count. Vertical suplex by Silver, and this time Uno counters the attack from the Midnights and finally gets the hot tag. Uno with a DDT to Pearl for two. Silver with a slam for two. Uno accidentally kicks Silver and Pearl sends him to the outside.

Gibson slides in the title belt and Pearl cracks Silver for just two. The Heat goes for the Hot Seat but can’t get it and Silver takes over with a Verve Pipe for two as the crowd is biting on every near fall. Gibson with a stunner on Uno and Pearl clocks him with a cheap shot from the outside allowing Gibson to get a rollup for the win. I got a little misty-eyed at the beauty of tag team wrestling here.  ****

Main Event: Steel Cage Match Prestige World Championship – Alan Angels (c) vs. Judas Icarus

For the steel cage nerds like myself, the cage is black and looks similar to the old WWF blue steel cages from the 80’s. Escaping the cage does not mean victory, it’s pinfall or submission only.

Icarus comes out with barbed wire in his hand. They duke it out to start. Angels lifts Icarus and rans him into the cage. Vertical suplex gets a one count. Judas comes back with a cage toss of his own and throws Angels into a chair in the corner. Jackknife pin gets two, and then the champion slingshots Icarus into the cage. Angels goes for the barbed wire and rips the mouth of Icarus with it. To the top corner they walk the ropes and Icarus gets trapped in the cage and kicked several times. DVD onto a chair gets two for the champ. Angels goes up but gets crotched as they fight on the top buckle, and Alan gets a diving cutter for a two count. Steel chair to the back of Icarus. Judas fires up however and decks Angels, laying in chairshots of his own.

The champion is busted open as Icarus sends him into the cage again multiple times for two. To the top and Judas gets a twisting superplex for two. A slugfest ensues with Angels getting the Halo Strike kick for two. They head to the top of the cage now where Icarus gets a huge superplex. This brings out Jordan Cruz who tries to get in through the cage door but is dropkicked for his trouble. Icarus with a bulldog choke, but Cruz recovers and takes out the referee, then lands a wicked No More Sorrow on Icarus. He reveals a referee shirt and the champion gets the Angels Wings, but only for two.

Outside, Cruz sets up a stack of tables. Angels heads out and Icarus does a dive onto both from the top of the cage to the floor. Up the stage where Angels gets a low blow and goes after announcer Jordan Castle, who in turn low blows the champion. Icarus sets up a door against the ringpost outside and grabs a crutch to attack Angels. He sets up more tables to the existing stack (two high and two wide). Then the barbed wire board comes out. Icarus tosses it at Angels but the champion avoids it. They climb up the cage and both fall back through the stack of tables to the floor.

Cruz attacks again, putting both back in the ring along with the barbed wire board and door. The board is set up across two chairs as the champ sets up Angels Wings, but Travis Williams runs out and spears Cruz through the door, then puts on the referee shirt (which he is entitled to).

Icarus locks in the Texas Cloverleaf but Angels breaks by crawling to the cage, then hits Angels Wings for two. Cruz jumps back into the fray but Sinner And Saint take him out with Ode to the Fallen. Angels gets the Halo Stretch. Judas bites the ear to break that and gets Angels Wings into the barbed wire. A barbed wire assisted punch followed by and inverted DDT into the wire and we have a new champion! A 40+ minute war with a great story, weapon spots that made sense, and two guys working their rear ends off with an excellent payoff.  *****

Final Thoughts: The main event alone makes this show a must watch. For an arena show, I really enjoyed the acoustics which made it feel like an 80’s territory major event. The tag title match, 4-way and Cruz/Williams were also very enjoyable, plus the battle of the Matts delivered what you’d expect.
