Yesterday was the four year anniversary of Matt Cardona’s deathmatch in Game Changer Wrestling against Nick Gage. Cardona took to Twitter to reflect on that moment, stating his his career and life changed that night.
“4 years ago I became the GCW World Champion and the Deathmatch King. My career changed that night…my life changed that night. Thank you GCW, Giancarlo Dittamo, Brett Lauderdale, and Nick Gage.”
Matt Cardona defeated Nick Gage for the GCW World Championship at GCW Homecoming 2021 Night 1 at The Showboat in Atlantic City, New Jersey. This was Cardona’s first ever deathmatch, and following the win, Cardona crowned himself the Deathmatch King.
Cardona only held the GCW World Championship for 42 days, but he would go on to become a regular staple in GCW and independent wrestling. Since then he has held the AIW Absolute and Intense titles, the HOG World Championship, the DDT Universal Championship, and plenty of other championships.
The match can be watched anytime on TrillerTV+.
