From July 25th through July 27th, we saw a ton of great professional wrestling all across the independent wrestling scene. PWPonderings’ Scott Mitchell had the chance to catch most of the shows from this weekend and put together a list of his five must-see matches. Check it out down below.

5. Prestige World Championship: Judas Icarus (c) vs. Leon Slater at Prestige Wrestling/West Coast Pro/Deadlock Pro’s “Cruel Summer”
In one of the big marquee matches of the joint West Coast Pro, Prestige Wrestling, and Deadlock Pro show, “Cruel Summer,” we saw Judas Icarus defend his Prestige World Championship against TNA’s Leon Slater. This marked Icarus’ first title defense, following his instant classic that he had with Alan Angels, where he won the title at Prestige’s “Combat Clash” last month.
This match was as amazing as you think it would be and then some. Icarus has been showing fans all around the world lately why he’s so much more than just a tag team wrestler. His opponent, Slater, is coming off the biggest win of his career at TNA Slammiversary, where he became the youngest TNA X-Division Champion. Ultimately, Slater defeated Icarus via DQ thanks to some involvement from Jordan Cruz. Up until Cruz got involved, it seemed like these two were going to have another instant classic.

4. PROGRESS Women’s World Championship: Rhio (c) vs. Rayne Leverkusen vs. Kanji at PROGRESS Wrestling’s “Chapter 182: Stay Humble”
In the main event of the last PROGRESS Wrestling show, “Chapter 182: Stay Humble,” Rhio put her PROGRESS Women’s World Championship on the line against Rayne Leverkusen and Kanji in a three-way match. This match was yet another reminder as to why women’s wrestling is thriving on the independent wrestling scene. All three of these women absolutely tore the house down in this main event.
The ending of the main event saw Rhio go for the pinfall on Leverkusen, only to be hit with a big elbow from behind from Kanji, who fell on top of both Rhio and Leverkusen. This confusion in who won the match caused a match to be made official for one of PROGRESS Wrestling’s biggest shows of the year, “Chapter 183: 100 Volts.” That show is shaping up to be truly can’t miss, with Luke Jacobs defending his PROGRESS Men’s World Championship in the main event against Man Like DeReiss in a TLC match. This was truly a three-way match for the ages and deserves to be treated as such.

3. West Coast Pro Tag Team Championships: The Cowboy Way (c) vs. The Crush Boys at Prestige Wrestling/West Coast Pro/Deadlock Pro’s “Cruel Summer”
Over the weekend, tag team wrestling shined at the joint show between Prestige Wrestling, West Coast Pro, and Deadlock Pro, “Cruel Summer.” One of the big matches on the night saw The Cowboy Way, 1 Called Manders and Thomas Shire, attempt to defend their West Coast Pro Tag Team Championships against the former champions, The Crush Boys, Titus Alexander and Starboy Charlie.
Alexander and Charlie dropped the titles at the West Coast Pro WrestleMania weekend event. But now that they’re champs again, the Crush Boys can pick up right where they left off. This match didn’t disappoint either, as two of the best teams on West Coast Pro left it all out in the ring. Tag team wrestling continues to be a cornerstone of the West Coast Pro landscape, consistently delivering exciting matches.

2. Create A Pro Women’s Championship Bloodline Rules Dog Collar Match: Gabby Forza (c) vs. Nat Castle at Create A Pro’s “THISSS Is Bobby Orlando’s Super Duper Really Awesome Jamboree Extravaganza”
In the main event of one of the wildest events in Create A Pro history, which was hosted by Create A Pro Champion Bobby Orlando, we saw Gabby Forza put the Create A Pro Women’s Championship on the line against Gabby Forza in a “Bloodline Rules, Dog Collar match.” This was the perfect way to end one of the biggest rivalries in all of women’s wrestling in Create A Pro history.
Castle and Forza truly outdid themselves here. Many went into this match unsure of what to expect because of the craziness of the event, but this was one of the best matches of the weekend. Ultimately, Nat Castle defeated Gabby Forza to end her 440-day reign. Castle showed she can hang with some of the best women on the independent wrestling scene today, and truly showed up and showed out in this match. The best part is you can watch this event for free on Twitch and/or YouTube.

1. West Coast Pro Heavyweight Championship 2-out-of-3 Falls Match: Kevin Blackwood (c) vs. Cedric Alexander at Prestige Wrestling/West Coast Pro/Deadlock Pro’s “Cruel Summer
The main event of the massive joint show between Prestige Wrestling, West Coast Pro, and Deadlock Pro, “Cruel Summer,” saw Kevin Blackwood put his West Coast Pro Heavyweight Championship on the line against ‘PRYME’ Cedric Alexander. Blackwood entered this match having picked up victories over the likes of Trevor Lee, Calvin Tankman, and, most recently, Shane Haste. Now, Blackwood can add another major victory under his belt against arguably his toughest challenge yet, Alexander.
Blackwood and Alexander tore the house down in one of the biggest independent wrestling shows of the year. Alexander picked up the first fall with a massive lumbar check. Blackwood went on to pick up the final two, defeating Alexander in the process. Now, Blackwood has his next opponent in his sights, the returning Karl Fredericks. This is sure to be another instant classic, as were most of Blackwood’s matches during his 201-day reign, so far. This is a must-watch, so go back and check it out on HighspotsTV.
