BCW “Queen of the North 6” Recap and Review

BCW’s “Queen of the North 6” took place on July 31 in Ridgefield Park, NJ. It included the Queen of the North tournament, which consisted of 3 first round matches and a 3-way final.

The show also had four title matches; Darius Carter defending the BCW Heavyweight Championship, Notorious Mimi defending the BCW Women’s Championship, Stunning Law defending the BCW Tag Team Championship, and J Bouji defending the BCW Grand Dragon Championship.

After AJ Pan introduced the competitors, the event begins with the opening round matches in the tournament.

Opening Round Match of the Queen of the North Tournament: Hannah Taylor def Orsi

Both women are making their North American debuts. Orsi uses her power, but Hannah is a little more technical and bends the rules a bit. Hannah does a really good job of focusing on Orsi’s arm, but then seems to lose focus. Hannah hits an impressive Hammerlock DDT, but Orsi kicks out of the pin attempt. Orsi hits a big spear, and Hannah kicks out. This is a very competitive match. Orsi kicks out of the Taylor Twist, but Taylor then gets Orsi to tap out. I would like to see both of these women have more matches in the US.

Opening Round Match of the Queen of the North Tournament: Sammi Chaos def Ivy Malibu

Ivy has come from Georgia, so Sammi has the home state advantage. Sammi attacks Ivy to start the match. She has a big size advantage, but Ivy is a very strong woman. Sammi shows how easily she can pick Ivy up and throw her to the mat. Ivy shows off a little bit, as she hits the Skull Fuck on Sammi, but that just seemed to anger Sammi. Sammi hits a Vader Bomb to put Ivy away. It was a much shorter match than the opening, but Sammi showed that she can dominate anyone that steps in the ring with her.

Opening Round Match of the Queen of the North Tournament: Harleen Lopez def Jackie Go

Jackie Go is from Germany and has trained at the Fall Out Shelter while in America. The crowd is behind Harleen Lopez. Harleen appears to have the power advantage, but Go tries to use her knowledge that she has gained from being a world traveled wrestler. Harleen locks in a crossface, but Go bites her. Big headbutt from Harleen followed by a short armed clothesline and a submission gets the win when Go taps out. Harleen looked really strong in this match and will take on Hannah Taylor and Sammi Chaos in the finals.

BCW World Heavyweight Championship: Darius Carter (c) def Kate Thorne and Zenith

Carter takes the mic and says that Kylie Alexa is not there and that he is issuing an open challenge to any woman. It is answered by Zenith AND Kate Thorn. I am a big fan of both of these women. Both women attack the champion and each give him suplexes. Kate is fired up and hits some fierce chops on Carter on the outside. Kate Thorne is looking incredible here with a spear, but Carter fires back. Kate hits a suplex, a spear, and frog splash on Carter. Thorne picks Carter up for TKateO, but Carter slips out and chokes out Kate. Kate Thorne looked incredible in this match and showed that she can hang in the ring with anyone.

BCW Tag Team Championship: Stunning Law (Emily Jaye and Journey Burke) (c) def Major League Blondes (JC Storm and Nahir Robles)

Both teams have some excellent double team maneuvers. At times it feels like Stunning Law is taking MLB a little too lightly and more worried about dancing then their opponents. Both of these teams are working together really well. The match goes back and forth and there are some very exciting sequences, but Stunning Law is able to retain the titles.

BCW Women’s Championship: Notorious Mimi (c) def Brittney Blake

This is a first time match up between two women who have been champions in multiple promotions. Mimi has a large height advantage, but Brittney uses her speed and technical prowess to even the playing field. Mimi gets very frustrated that she cannot put Blake away. Mimi is finally able to pin Blake after a spinning kick and an Angels Wings. In my opinion, Mimi is one of the top female independent wrestlers in the country. She has recently been winning her matches by less than honorable ways, but she has still been winning.

BCW Grand Dragon Champion: J Bouji (c) def Dustin Waller

This was originally Bouji against Lena Kross, but Lena had something Elite to attend to, so Dustin Waller answered the open challenge. Very high paced match. Great athleticism from both wrestlers. Bouji is able to fight off Waller’s offense and hit a cutter to retain his title.

Queen of The North Three Way Finals: Harleen Lopez  def Sammi Chaos and Hannah Taylor

These are three very different, very strong, very talented young women. Harleen puts a submission on Hanna, but Sammi just picks her up and squashes her in the corner. Hannah is able to hit a swinging DDT on Sammi out of the corner, and everyone is even again. Hannah and Harleen decide that they need to team up on Sammi, but fight over the win. Hannah tries to come off the ropes, but does not connect. Harleen locks in a submission and forces Hannah to tap. The crowd chants “You deserve it.” It has been a long tough road littered with setbacks and injuries, but now Harleen can call herself the Queen of the North.

It took a while for the matches to get started, but once they did the matches were good. My favorite matches of the show were Darius Carter vs Zenith vs Kate Thorn and the tag team championship match. I could do without all of the extra storyline activities around the title matches, but that just might be my taste.
