Scott’s Five Must-See Matches From The Weekend of 8/28-8/31

From Thursday, August 28th, through Sunday, August 31st, we saw some fantastic independent wrestling events take place. PWPonderings’ Scott Mitchell had the chance to catch up on a few shows this past weekend. From the likes of Chaotic Wrestling, ICW, Beyond Wrestling, and FSWW, here are five must-see matches that every fan of independent wrestling should go back and check out.

5. Mortar & The Unit (JT Dunn, Trigga The OG, & Danny Miles) vs. Miracle Generation (Dustin Waller & Kylon King) & The Powers of Influence (DJ Powers & Jose Zamora) from Chaotic Wrestling “Owlmania 6”

On Thursday, August 28th, Chaotic Wrestling returned to Everett, MA, for its big event, “Owlmania 6.” The main event saw a massive eight-man tag team match. The Chaotic Wrestling Heavyweight Champion, Mortar, teamed up with The Unit, consisting of the Chaotic Wrestling New England Champion, Trigga The OG, and the Chaotic Wrestling Tag Team Champions, JT Dunn & Danny Miles. They fought the team of Miracle Generation’s Dustin Waller & Kylon King, and The Powers of Influence’s DJ Powers & Jose Zamora. This all-star main event went nearly half an hour before Zamora rolled up Miles and pinned him. Above all else, this match showed how much depth the Chaotic Wrestling roster has. Miracle Generation is one of the top tag teams, if not THE top tag team, on the independent wrestling scene today. As much as we love to hate the Powers of Influence, they have got to be one of the most fun tag teams around today. Zamora and Powers work amazingly together. As for The Unit, they remain the standard in the world of Chaotic Wrestling. They are three of the absolute greatest to step through the ropes of Chaotic, and Mortar is the perfect man to lead Chaotic into its next generation. Overall, this was an amazing match. Go back and check this out on the Chaotic Wrestling YouTube channel.

4. Kenny Williams vs. Rhio from ICW “I Assure You, We’re Open”

The main event of ICW “I Assure You, We’re Open” saw Kenny Williams defend his ICW World Heavyweight Championship against Rhio. This was truly the match of the night, if not one of the greatest matches of the year for ICW. We saw so much happen, and above all else, we witnessed a fantastic wrestling match. Ultimately, Rhio defeated Williams with a package piledriver on a steel chair to win the ICW World Heavyweight Championship. However, it was not before we saw Mark Coffey intervene and take out Williams. This was a massive return for ICW, and a beautiful way to cap off an amazing show. Williams is a fantastic wrestler and one of the top names in the UK today. As for Rhio, she’s been on an outstanding run as of late. Now, she adds the ICW World Heavyweight Championship to her already respectable resume. Amazing show, amazing main event, go check this one out on TrillerTV+.

3. Swipe Right vs. The Shooter Boys from Beyond Wrestling “Americanrana”

In the opening match of Beyond Wrestling “Americanrana” on IWTV, we saw Swipe Right’s Brad Baylor & Ricky Smokes put their Wrestling Open Tag Team Championships on the line against The Shooter Boys’ Aaron Ortiz & Anthony Vecchio. The Shooter Boys are one of the top up-and-coming tag teams in all of the northeast. They started wrestling a couple of years back and had their first match in 2024. For how good they are already, this is absolutely insane. The Shooter Boys recently captured the Create A Pro Tag Team Championships, and now they looked to capture the Wrestling Open Tag Team Championships. Fortunately, for The Shooter Boys, they did just that. After one of the best tag team matches in Beyond Wrestling & Wrestling Open history, The Shooter Boys were able to put Swipe Right away with their massive finisher. Swipe Right has had a great run with the Wrestling Open Tag Team Championships, but it was time for a change. Especially with Swipe Right making a name for themselves on WWE NXT, rightfully so. Baylor and Smokes deserve all their flowers, despite how much we love to hate them. The Shooter Boys are the team of the future, and this was indeed a match between the present and the future. Great tag team match to kick off a great event on IWTV.

2. Gypsy Mac vs. Brittnie Brooks from FSWW “Cruel Summer”

The main event of the Future Stars of Women’s Wrestling big event, “Cruel Summer”, saw Gypsy Mac put the FSW Women’s Championship on the line against the “Center of Attention,” Brittnie Brooks. Mac has been champion for 182 days, since she first defeated Alice Blair in a Steel Cage match, back in March. Her run has been great, as she picked up wins over the likes of Katie Forbes, Brittnie Brooks (again), and Daena Lynn. However, all good things come to an end, and what a conclusion to a title reign we saw in this match. I cannot say enough good things about both women. Mac and Brooks left it all in the ring in this First Blood match. In the end, Brooks took the low road. She sprayed hairspray in Mac’s face and hit her over the head with the title belt. She followed that up with a big spike DDT, which ultimately busted Mac open. This led to Brooks capturing the FSW Women’s Championship. I highly recommend this match to fans of professional wrestling in general. Mac vs. Brooks was yet another reason in the book “The Growth of Women’s Wrestling. Not only was this a great women’s match, but this was a great PROFESSIONAL WRESTLING match. Go support both women in this one and re-watch this match any time on TitleMatchNetwork.

1. Bryce Donovan vs. Bobby Orlando from Beyond Wrestling “Americanrana”

The top match from this weekend saw Bryce Donovan put the Wrestling Open Championship on the line against Bobby Orlando in the main event of Beyond Wrestling “Americanrana.” The story behind this match made this match so much more. Orlando and Donovan have a long, illustrious history of teaming up together as the “Shook Crew.” Unfortunately, times have changed, and these two men are now far removed from their days as a tag team. However, for the fans, the magic these two created in the ring was worth it. Orlando and Donovan truly left it all out there in one of the great main events in Beyond Wrestling’s “Americanrana” history. In the end, Orlando dethroned Donovan with a big elbow drop from the top. Orlando has been on a fantastic run as of late, as he also represents Create A Pro as the Create A Pro Champion. Orlando deserves every ounce of his accomplishments, as he has shown a great deal of his potential inside the ring. Simply put, Orlando is one of the best around today. As for Donovan, it remains to be seen where he goes from here. He’s on the same boat as Swipe Right, with the WWE ID contract. So, could we see him in a lesser capacity going forward? I suppose anything is possible. However, Donovan still more than deserves his flowers, regardless of what happens. I had the opportunity of seeing Donovan’s first-ever wrestling match, and to see his growth over that time has been nothing short of amazing. Go check this match out on IWTV.
