Interview: Brick Savage Talks Their Upcoming Match with KJ Orso, Wrestling Revolver, What’s Next, and More

In PWPonderings’ latest exclusive interview, Brick Savage (@BrickSavage7) sits down with Scott Mitchell (@Scott44Mitchell) to talk about his upcoming match at Wrestling Revolver with KJ Orso for the Revolver Texas Title, what’s next for them, and so much more. Check out the full interview down below where we speak about how they got their start in wrestling, when they decided to start training, and more.

This weekend, you’ll be squaring off with KJ Orso for the vacant Wrestling Revolver Texas Title. What’s your mindset heading into that? This is also a rematch from the Revolver Texas Title Tournament in the semi-finals.

“I have the same mindset I have every other weekend. I don’t always expect to steamroll over someone, but I don’t expect to get battered up by someone else. I just don’t think there are a lot of people who are tougher than I am. I don’t expect to see someone show up and have that mindset where they’re going to walk all over Brick Savage. That’s not going to happen. I fought way tougher people, and they don’t expect the same thing either. I was the first-ever Revolver Texas Champion. I went through that tournament getting blindsided by a couple of people, and I overcame that deal because of how resilient I am. KJ getting his opportunity to fill in that spot there, I was already ready for a pit fight, and I’ve been training in knocking people out left and right for several weeks. So, I prepared for that kind of fight. I don’t think KJ is. KJ has quite an attitude to him now. He’s got some tenacity. But I don’t think he’s prepared for someone who’s coming in there and wants to knock him out and drop him on the top of his head. That’s what he has to be prepared for. I’m ready to do that. I don’t think he’s ready for that.”

You’re no stranger to that title; you won it on June 28th and became the inaugural champion after a strong showing in the tournament. What was that like?

“I’ve been around with Revolver for the last couple of years. Any time they come to Texas, I’ve been involved in their show to some capacity. I’ve had pretty good hoss matches with Revolver. I think it’s a cool piece of history to be a part of. It’s always cool to be the first at something. Just to be a part of the Revolver roster and someone they can rely on every time they come to Texas is very important to me. It’s hard enough to have good people, but knowing that when you go to travel and you have this person you can rely on every time you come here, I think, has been a pretty big deal for me. Then, getting an invitation to the Jerry Lynn Invitational was also pretty important to me. Having that level where the company believes in you not only to do this showcase match at a Jerry Lynn Invitational, so much so that they put you in the World Title match against three other previous champions for Revolver, Jake Crist, Gringo Loco, and the champion, Myron Reed, having that kind of trust in someone to showcase that and deliver is also important. It was a nice, surreal moment, and I really appreciate it.”

You ranked #247 on this year’s PWI 500. What was it like for you when you found that out?

“I woke up to several messages; people were obviously getting to it early. It wasn’t on my radar there. I thought I would be in it last year, but I didn’t get in it. I didn’t know what I had to do differently. I traveled all over the place, but I’ll just keep putting in the work, grinding harder, and continuing to put more effort into stuff. I did. I put more effort into it, and they took notice of it. Hitting 247 on a debut, I feel like it’s a pretty good start. I held over nine titles within that time frame; that’s nine different places that trusted me to hold a title to do something with, that’s a big step. Being all over, across Texas, and traveling outside to Mexico and wrestling all those different talents from bigger promotions, debuted on AEW Collision, all that stuff was cool, and being able to be recognized was cool. To top it all off, I ended that timeframe winning the Revolver Texas Title. I won several tournaments as well. I did a lot, and to be recognized for that is a cool and surreal moment. It solidified that I am doing the necessary steps to continue to grow and evolve from where I’m at.”

What’s next for you? Any future goals?

“The main goal I have for this year is to be able to deliver a very intricate story that’s not only extremely enticing to the fans, over multiple places, but also has the ability to elevate several talents along the way. That’s my main goal for this year, and so far, so good.”

Any future opponents you’d really like to share the ring with?

“Borracho Pro, I’m in a fight with Carter Black, who was ranked #214, here in November. I’m looking forward to that again. We had a really good match last year, but I’m looking forward to fighting him in this different environment that I’m in. Manders would be another one. I always have a great time fighting and beating the hell out of him. Ethan Hunter, whom I just wrestled. He kind of almost gave me a run for my money. I was slightly impressed. So, I’d be willing to drop him on his head again. I think this year I have room for some people, but I’m not sure if there’s anyone else on that list. I have open areas for different things. If opportunity arises, I’d be happy to take it, but as for right now, I am looking forward to several matches.
