Interview: Dustin Waller Talks Miracle Generation, IWTV Tag Team Championship Run, Chaotic Wrestling, DPW, and More

In PWPonderings’ latest exclusive interview, Dustin Waller (@ItsDustinWaller) sits down with Scott Mitchell (@Scott44Mitchell) to discuss Miracle Generation, including their IWTV Tag Team Championship run, their recent match at Chaotic Wrestling, becoming the new Deadlock Pro Wrestling Tag Team Champions, his current singles run as BST Territory Champion, and so much more. Watch it in its entirety below.

Last Friday, you took on The Unit’s JT Dunn & Danny Miles, and The Powers of Influence, DJ Powers and Jose Zamora for the Chaotic Wrestling Tag Team Championships. What was your mindset heading into that?

“Kylon and I are fairly new to being in Chaotic. Ever since getting there, we’ve been in the Chaotic Wrestling Tag Team Championship picture. I feel like Chaotic Wrestling knows what everyone else does, and that is that we collect titles. That’s what we’re trying to do at Chaotic. We started off going against The Unit, then we had a big tag against The Unit, where we teamed up with the Powers of Influence. Now, we’re facing them. DJ Powers and Jose Zamora are two very good competitors in their own right, as well as in a tag team. Now, it’s a triple threat tag team match for the Chaotic tag team titles. I can’t see this ending any other way than us winning the championships. What would be better than adding another championship to the shelf? I think Friday is definitely a good start for the future of Chaotic.”

You and Kylon have been a tag team now for quite some time. How did Miracle Generation come about? Did you have any inspirations for what your team was going to be like?

“We trained together. We met at PAPW. I didn’t know him before wrestling. We started as singles competitors, like everyone else. We started off doing our own thing. Maybe almost four years after doing singles stuff, we just figured we’d try it out. We train together and have a lot of good chemistry outside the ring. We’re really good friends and see each other all the time. It was at the Test of Strength Wrestling in Connecticut, where they just decided to put us in a tag team and see what happens. They put us in a few matches over there, and then Beyond Wrestling had the Uncharted Territory Discovery Gauntlet in 2021 or 2022, and we just walked over there, and they asked us if we were a tag team. We were helping out with the ring every single week over there for Uncharted. We said yes, and we really weren’t at the time. You have to agree, though, with whatever you’re needed for. We ended up winning that, and the rest of that is history. We went on to do what we’re still doing to this day.”

You also became the IWTV Independent Wrestling Tag Team Champions. What was that like to essentially be crowned as the best tag team on the independent wrestling scene?

“That was pretty crazy. We won those and didn’t know what was going to come of it. We know the history of the IWTV World Championship, and all the crazy names who held that and what they’ve done with it. It’s one of those things where you talk about it, but then when it actually happens, it’s like ‘oh wow, this is crazy.’ Being the second-ever champions, and defeating Violence is Forever, another phenomenal tag team who has been all around the world doing crazy things, being able to take those titles to Canada, and all around the United States and have some of the craziest matches we’ve ever had, and ones that will live on forever in my memory for sure, when you’re fighting for something, it definitely means a lot more. A lot of those matches for those titles were a lot more important. I definitely don’t take it lightly. Anyone who has any type of championship, people say belts don’t matter, well, they do. You’re a champion. You have to act like a champion. You can’t be the same person you were when you weren’t a champion. I definitely think that Reign is one that I’ll remember.”

A couple of weeks ago, you two took on Bustah & The Brain at Empire State Wrestling. That was one of my five must-see matches of the weekend. What was it like working with them and putting that together?

“That was one we were really looking forward to. It was supposed to happen a few months ago, but stuff comes up. It was really good to get the first taste. It’s definitely going to happen again. I’ve wrestled Jordan and Alec in singles, same as Kylon, so we’re all very familiar with each other. We know what we each bring to the table. I think that match was just a small sample of what’s to come when we meet again. They’re doing a lot more tag team stuff, especially at GCW. I know they’re coming back to Connecticut later on in the year. That would be pretty crazy to run it back over there. Honestly, though, it could be anywhere. That’s just tag team wrestling. It’s rare now to have a match where we haven’t wrestled people before. There are so many teams we’ve wrestled several times. We just wrestled them for the first time. To do it seven more times, I’m 100% down for it.”

I’d be remiss if I didn’t bring up you and Kylon King defeating the Grizzled Young Veterans, Jake Something & The Beast Mortos, and The WorkHorsemen to become the Deadlock Pro Tag Team Champions. What was that match like for you, and winning the titles at a company as historic as DPW?

“That was a surreal day, to be honest. Every time we go to DPW, it feels pretty surreal. I said early on, DPW brings in all of these unbelievable independent names, whether from the indies or TV, and then us. I was just like, What are we doing here? This is kind of crazy. Over the years, it’s just been fun to see what we could do there. This year’s tag festival was great. In the first round, we beat Violence is Forever, who is everyone’s fan favorite. That was the big shock factor going into the finals. That is a crazy final. Just to be in the ring with those guys was nuts. We’ve been in the ring with Workhorsemen; they were our first-ever match at DPW. We’ve wrestled GYV several times. We’ve never been in the ring with Jake Something and Beast Mortos, but they are a crazy pairing. Absolutely insane. To be able to walk out with not just the win of the tournament but the win of the belts as well was one of those stop and smell the roses moments. You always hear about it, but it’s hard to do it sometimes. Some of the things I’ve done over my career, I’m so grateful for. It was one of those things where I just got to the back and stared at the belt. It was just like, this is happening. I was 16 years old a few years ago, sitting in Connecticut, not doing a damn thing. Now, I’m wrestling at one of the largest independent wrestling promotions in the world. It’s definitely one of those things where I got to stop and smell the roses.”

You have also been representing BST Wrestling as the BST Territory Champion. You’ve picked up wins over the likes of Darius Carter (to win the title), Jackson Drake, and Anthony Greene. What has that run been like for you so far?

“BST Wrestling has a very special place in my heart. It’s the first promotion I’ve ever wrestled for outside of PAPW. I was there for their first-ever show, so they’ve been around for a very long time. I’m very close to being a grand slam champion there. Suppose I could just get those tag titles. BST is a lot of fun, it’s great. To see them become what they are now, putting on some of the best shows, and it’s local in Connecticut. You have some good promotions up there, Fight Life runs every once in a while, Blitzkrieg! Pro, PAPW, Test of Strength, but I think BST is just standing out. Mega Clash was one of the best shows CT has seen in a while. You had Dijak and Sammy Diaz, me vs. Anthony Greene, Richard Holliday, and Dezmond Cole; that was awesome. There are a lot of good things happening at BST. I beat Darius Carter last November. We’re coming up on a year. My last defense with Anthony Greene was definitely memorable. We’ve wrestled so many times now, whether in tags at Wrestling Open or singles, he’s again one of those guys who’s so smart. Iron sharpens iron, but you want to be in there with someone better than you. That’s the only way you’re going to get better, so you can see what you do wrong. It will expose you so quickly and show you what you need to work on. BST is the place to do that. I’m there to test myself. I have some interesting matches coming up that you’ll have to stay tuned to see.”

What are your hopes for the future? Any future goals for yourself or Miracle Generation?

“Honestly, I’ve never been a big goals person. When I first started wrestling, none of this I would have ever even thought of. Perfect example, being able to wrestle Lio Rush. Literally one of my dream matches. Being able to wrestle him in my best match to this day. I just want it to work. I don’t know what I’m doing right or what I’m doing wrong, but whatever’s happening is working out right now. I do think having fun is very important. If you go into it and it’s stressful and feels like work, you have to enjoy it. I have to remember sometimes that this is my childhood dream. I have to go in there and have fun. My goal is to put the most effort that I can into everything. Not just from this point forward, but that’s what I’ve been doing this entire year. That was my New Year’s resolution: just put 100% into everything I do. Whether it’s in the ring, out of the ring, every booking I have, whether there’s 10 fans or 10,000 fans, it doesn’t matter to me. I’m trying to have that little kid at heart. I’m living my dream, so just have fun.”

Do you have anyone on your mind that you’d like to share the ring with? Whether tag team or singles action.

“I think tag team-wise, I have to go big and just say The Hardy Boyz. They’re a team that’s not going to be around for that much longer. They’ve said it themselves, they’re getting to that point where they’re done soon. They’re one of those teams where not even tag team wrestlers, but why singles wrestlers are wrestling in the first place. They are just the reason wrestling is the way it is right now. The Hardy Boyz are crucial to not just independent wrestling but wrestling as a whole. Jeff Hardy himself has become one of the most popular people in wrestling and outside of it. I think The Hardy Boyz are definitely a team, Kylon and I would love to knock off the list. You’re seeing a lot of our favorites hang them up. We’re getting to that time where people we watched when we were younger are starting to stop. The new generation is coming up. The Hardy Boyz would have to be a big one. Singles-wise, this is a match that I’ve been wanting for a while. I’d love to go one-on-one with Nick Wayne. I think that match would be a lot of fun. He’s someone I very much enjoy watching. Over the past few years, he’s become a very close friend of mine. That match would definitely be one I’m looking forward to, singles-wise.”
