Nix Wilde has had an incredible breakout year in 2025 at 880 wrestling and beyond. They have captured the 880 championship, became the leader of The Dead Hand Society, and even challenged for the GCW Championship. I had a chance to talk with Nix about the past year, how they got there and what is next.
Nix said that they have always wanted to be a pro wrestler and jumped at the opportunity once MV Young opened the door to their wrestling school in the Pittsburgh area. Nix told me, “I wanted to be a wrestler for as long as I can remember, it just never felt like something I could do. But when I heard that MV was opening a school in 2022, it just felt like stars were aligning and it was time to pull the trigger. Picking 880 was easy because I knew I would be safe to be an out non-binary person in wrestling training.”
880 has come to be known as a place for LGBTQ wrestlers, from students like Nix, Marco Nacusio, and Elijah Love, to more experienced local wrestlers like Zeke Mercer, Paris Sahara and Tatiana to national wrestlers that have stopped by or even became semi-regulars, like Brianna Bandz, Mateo Valentine and GCW Champion EFFY.
Nix started off as a very happy and fan friendly wrestler. They would team with Tatiana and Reese Hayes to form the Wilde Flowers. They would have some success and even had some title shots, as a tag team with Tatiana and as a singles wrestler, but they would always come up short. This started to frustrate Nix and they started acting out against their friends. The moment everything changed, or clicked as Nix would say, would be when a new 880 belt was revealed and among the chaos Nix picked up the old title and proclaimed it the Thursday Night Fights championship and themselves the champion. At the next Thursday Night Fights event, Nix solidified this championship by defending it against their coach, MV Young.
“Turning heel was absolutely a turning point. I didn’t have any idea on whether it would actually be successful or not but a few months in I knew that I found the lane I was supposed to be in”, Nix stated.
Nix was an absolute natural heel from the start. They were suddenly cutting great promos, doing shitty things in the ring to make the crowd hate them and immediately getting “Fuck you Nix” chants from the crowd. The once fan favorite became one of the most hated people in 880 Wrestling in a week. I asked Nix how they became such a great heel and they said, “In the real world, I try my best to be a caring, compassionate, and empathetic person and I honestly think that knowing how to be all those things really informs my ability to portray a character who is the exact opposite. There’s just something very rewarding about getting fans to not like you and to make them like your opponent more because of that.”
Nix is someone that pays attention to detail, whether it is their moves, their promos or their style, as they all need to go with the character that they are portraying. I asked Nix about how their style has evolved with their character, and they said, “When I was a babyface in 880 I really wanted to just look as bubbly and androgynous as possible, hence the crop tops and early adoption of the fishnets. I think now, as a heel, I try emulate some of the a**hole hardcore dudes (who I thought dressed cool but were still a-holes) I was around when I was more involved in the music scene. But also while trying to keep it as androgynous as possible: hence the button down flannels while still rocking the fishnets.“
Nix says that their influences come from multiple places in or out of wrestling. “My biggest influence, especially since working heel, is probably Edge. Not necessarily in the moves I do but in the way I move around and perform. Outside of wrestling, Frieza from Dragon Ball Z is one of my biggest influences for the current iteration of Nix Wilde. I watched a lot of DBZ and DBS after the turn and picked up a lot of just the way he speaks and acts. Honestly any wrestler working heel should study anime villains. I promise you that you’ll find something to pull from.”
Nix defended the TNF championship against the best in 880 and beyond, like multiple time 880 Champion Gianni Michael Emricko, one half of TME Ganon Jones Jr, Felix Koz, Reese Hayes and current Enjoy Champion, Mikey Montgomery, before eventually falling to former tag partner, Tatiana. They really took this championship from nothing and made it relevant.
Nix lost the TNF championship on the first Thursday Night Fights of 2025, so some might see this as a bad omen, but it was off to bigger and better things for Nix. After losing their championship, they got the chance to return to FEST in Gainsville, FL and face the incredible Brittany Jade. I asked Nix about their experiences working with FEST and they said, “FEST is awesome. Especially FEST weekend and getting to attend the music festival itself. And the folks in the locker room are so good and tbh it gives me major imposter syndrome when I’m there. Not that I don’t feel like I belong, but its still just surreal to me when I get to travel that far and perform for such a good crowd.”
Nix is in a faction called the Dead Hand Society, which split from a long time faction called the Black Hand Society. As the former group was splintering there was a heated rivalry between Nix and Payton Graham. This rivalry led to some very heated and personal promos and a hardcore match with Payton’s career on the line. When I asked Nix about being chosen as Payton’s last match they said, “that was insane to get that honor. I got told the plan months before that and I remember responding “wait you want me to what?” That honor and magnitude is not lost on me. Payton was so good and so giving. Thats a lot of trust being put into me and it was definitely an emotional match.”
Over the summer Nix became the 880 champion by defeating Gianni Michael Emricko. At this point, Nix was proving themselves as one of the top names of 880 wrestling and on their way to becoming the MVP of 2025. Somewhere at this point they also became the leader of The Dead Hand Society. Nix stated, “It’s very strange leading a faction that is made of mostly people who have been doing this longer than me. But I cherish it because I get to observe guys like Remy, Voxxy, and Saturn and learn from them very closely. While being there to watch JAZ learn and grow and get better.”
Nix also got to challenge Effy for the GCW Championship, in what was probably the biggest match of their career. “It’s insane to say that I got to challenge for the GCW World Title this year but I DID. Effy is so good and so giving in the ring. Just a very surreal moment in a year full of those moments.”
Other than 880, Nix has wrestled for FEST, Enjoy Wrestling, Smash Master Wrestling, and recently debuted for Canadian Deathmatch. “I don’t know if I have any particular promotions in mind! I just wanna keep branching out. I feel like I’m hitting a stride and I’m more confident in my work than I ever have been”, when asked if they had their eye on any new promotions for 2026.
