Interview: Brittany Blake Talks PoderMania, Shotzi Blackheart, Spark Joshi, AZM, Goals, Dream Opponents, More

In PWPonderings’ latest exclusive interview, Scott Mitchell (@Scott44Mitchell) sits down to talk with Brittany Blake (@brittanyblake_) about her upcoming WrestleMania week events, including PoderMania, representing PoderMania as the Poder Women’s Champion, winning the title, working with Shotzi and Spark Joshi, including working with AZM, and her mindset on this year’s event. Watch it in its entirety down below.

You are the current Poder Women’s Champion. What does this title mean to you?

“To me, it means a lot to me because I know that Ed, the booker/owner of Poder, was a fan of Shimmer. That was always a goal of mine. I’m so grateful I got to wrestle there before they closed down. So, I know that he looks for the most well-rounded, talented women. To me, it’s almost like an extension of Shimmer, because a lot of the girls who wrestled for Shimmer, wrestle for Poder. I just feel like it’s the best crop of women’s talent that’s going to be in Vegas. Before it was Mania week, they would have their own weekend. It was always bringing in the most talented girls from all around the world. I just love it. I love working with different women. I think every time that I’ve worked there, I’ve wrestled someone different. So, I love getting to work with new people all the time.”

You first won the title in May of 2024, defeating Christi Jaynes. What did this moment mean to you?

“I personally love that match. It challenged me as a wrestler, as a performer, but I really enjoyed that match with Christi. To me, it was something different from what I’ve done for a while. I think then, I was in a weird place with wrestling; in some way, I needed that. I needed to remind myself that I am good enough. It sounds stupid because it’s wrestling, and it’s a fantasy, but that win was important to me for a lot of reasons, and because there were so many other talented women on that card, I feel like I really had to rise to the occasion of a main event champion.”

Your next match defending the title came in last year’s PoderMania event, when you knocked off Zoe Lucas. What was it like to work with her?

“Loved working with her. I requested that match. Zoey hasn’t been in the States in a bit, and I really wanted to wrestle her. She’s well-traveled. She’s wrestled in Japan, in the States, the UK, and Europe, so I really wanted to wrestle someone who was well-traveled with that level of experience. I was so happy I got to work with Zoey.”

Now, for the third consecutive year, you will be in the main event as you defend your title against the “Ballsy Badass,” Shotzi Blackheart. What’s your mindset heading into this one?

“I’m so excited. I just know we’re going to have the best time. I’ve never wrestled Shotzi one-on-one. We’ve been in scramble matches, we’ve been in multi-man tag matches, against each other, but we’ve never had a one-on-one match. I’m really excited for what we get to do. I’m ready to do ballsy sh*t at Poder. I’m so ready for whatever this match has for us. It’s going to be a long weekend for both of us. I think it’s the start of both of our weekends. I think we’ll have all the gas in the tank for this match and hopefully we’ll survive the rest of the weekend.”

PoderMania does an excellent job at showcasing women’s professional wrestling. How important is it to have a promotion like this to you?

“You don’t see a lot of women’s cards anymore. I feel like it’s still a struggle to get more than one women’s match on a show. The fact that they continue to have a card of women’s matches too, and it’s such a good card at that. It’s not like they’re just scrounging around and putting together whatever they can find. This is a top-tier match from top-to-bottom. Any one of these matches could have been the main event. The fact is, this is an entire show of main events. It’s so exciting, and I think it’s going to be a really tough show to top.”

You’re also announced for the Spark Joshi event during WrestleMania week, on Sunday, April 19th. What’s your mindset about getting to be a part of Spark Joshi again?

“I love Spark Joshi. It’s probably in my top three favorite companies to work for. It’s just a great environment. Everyone is so positive, and everyone wants everyone to do well. I just love working for Spark. I will forever constantly promote, even if I’m not on the show, I will constantly promote how great this company is. It’s just a really good environment, and again, it’s like Poder. Every match on that card could be a main event. Every match could be great, you don’t want to miss a single one on the card.”

Last year, at Spark Joshi, you got to work with Momo Watanabe, AZM & Joseline Navarro. What was that match like for you?

“I was so excited. AZM specifically, Momo is great too, but AZM specifically was like the top three people I wanted to wrestle, like the top of my list. I never thought I’d be able to because usually Stardom girls can’t wrestle outside of Stardom or New Japan. So, I didn’t expect to get the opportunity to work with her, but I loved it. I wish we had a singles match. I know we’d absolutely kill it. When they released the match card, I thought, ‘There’s no way.’ I don’t even want to share it because I don’t want to jinx it. I don’t want it to be a card subject to change or a match subject to change. I was so nervous that the match was going to change for whatever reason, because I was definitely looking forward to it.”

You’ve accomplished so much in this crazy world. But, looking ahead for you, do you have any future goals?

“I don’t know. I feel like I definitely have more matches behind me than ahead of me. But, I do want to do at least one more tour of Japan. I want to have fun. At this point, I’m not worried about wrestling three times a week, or going viral on Twitter, or anything. I want to have fun and enjoy what I’m doing. I don’t want to come home and be bummed or think like, ‘I didn’t do a good job,’ or ‘this is just the politics of this.’ I want to have fun. I want to have fun and come home to my cats. That’s all I want to do.”

Do you have any opponents you’d like to share the ring with?

“There are so many. Shotzi was definitely top of the list. My absolute dream opponent, that’s kind of unrealistic, would be Iyo Sky. That’s definitely top-tier, unrealistic. Other than that, something more realistic, Lena Kross is probably up there for me for like dream opponents.”
