The storybook has closed on Kevin Blackwood’s career, as he has officially wrestled his final match.
On Friday night at Prestige Wrestling’s final ever show, “Roseland XIII,” Blackwood put his Prestige World Championship on the line against Judas Icarus. The two went on to have a 30-minute war, during which Icarus won the Prestige World Championship.
Blackwood announced back in January that he would be stepping away from professional wrestling following the Prestige Wrestling “Roseland XIII” event. Blackwood posted the following on X:
“I’ve dwelled on this thought for months and came to terms with it a few weeks ago, but it’s taken me a while to find the strength to say anything publicly. I’ve told some privately, and truthfully, it gets easier every time I say it…For the last quarter or more of 2025, and now into the new year, my mental health has been in horrible shape. I have good days and bad, but the trend is ultimately still downward. For a long time, wrestling was one of the things that always picked me up when I felt that way, and it sucks to know and say that for a while now, it’s been the thing hurting me the most. I love wrestling and have for the entirety of my life that I have memory of. I’ve made contributions to it in small ways, and it’s taken me places and introduced me to people I’m forever grateful for. But the more I hang on, the worse I believe things will be for me, and I just don’t want that. Prestige Roseland XIII on February 20th will sadly be the last Prestige show, and it’s fitting that I allow it to be my last match. I have a few bookings I’ve kept until then, including one in Buffalo on January 31st, and then I need to rest. Mentally and emotionally. I wish I could say physically, but I know me, I never sit still…Wrestling will continue without me, and I am so happy to know all my friends it’s given me will continue to thrive and grow in the sport, and I hope they achieve everything they dreamed of. Wrestling’s incredible, and I’ll always love it. I can’t say for sure if this is “goodbye” or “see you later,” but I can say with my whole heart, thank you to everyone who’s been there. 9 years well spent.”
In Blackwood’s 10-year career, he has held his fair share of championships, including the Destiny Next Generation Championship, the C4 Underground Championship, the ESW Heavyweight Championship, the C4 Championship, the West Coast Pro Heavyweight Championship, the Defy PrimoLucha Championship, and the Prestige Wrestling World Championship. He’s had many legendary matches and moments with the likes of Penta, Cedric Alexander, Leon Slater, Masato Tanaka, Trevor Lee, Mustafa Ali, Roderick Strong, and countless others.
We at PWPonderings wish Blackwood the best going forward and wish him a happy and healthy retirement.
