There has been reports that ProWrestling.net, written by Jason Powell whose opinion I highly admire, that Nigel McGuinness has indeed signed with TNA and will be given the name “Dylan Wolfe”. What in the blue hell Nigel?
Also this also reported as per the reason, “Nigel McGuinness is telling people that he opted to sign with TNA because WWE took too long to send his contract. TNA officials stepped in and struck a deal with McGuinness, who is backstage at the TNA Impact taping in Orlando”
So if this is the case..what does that mean for American Dragon..I say leave him alone TNA!
Nigel McGuinness, god bless you, I met you in Chicago for your last Chicago ROH show and you are a great man and a great talent and deserve to be in the WWE. Perhaps they were taking a long time and perhaps your injuries led you to believe you wouldn’t or shouldn’t take on the WWE traveling plan. But for the love of god you gave up Ring of Honor to go to a company that didn’t want you years ago. I understand you are a totally different beast now, but come on. They probably will allow you to continue your relationship with indys and perhaps even a one time showing with ROH if they treat you as they do the MCMG, but still. In the end, this is a business and should be treated as such. Where as sure, you would travel a tad more in the fed but you would hopefully get more recognition as well. Which can only be a good thing. Though I do wish you the best in TNA Nigel, I also hope you get a chance to work with Doug Williams again which can be nothing but buys. But that ends my rant about Nigel.
Now we’re onto the much larger rant. American Dragon is a student of one of the most legendary WWE talents in it’s history. Though he is smaller, and many would say that the WWE isn’t the place for him, it is still the WWE. I understand TNA that you want fresh young talent and that you would love to say you scooped another one away from the “big ole WWE”. But you had that chance. You had a chance several times with other talent to put them over and actually utilize them in ways that would make the WWE realize they dropped the ball.
Seemingly taking a huge turn at BFG and before, TNA is making it clear that they are bound to make younger guys more prominent in their promotion and that any veteran who doesn’t agree can shove off. Great. Always a good sign and I want the promotion to get those stars over. But if that is going to happen, utilize the talent you already have and don’t use. Motor City Machine Guns, Samoa Joe, Christopher Daniels, Jay Lethal, hell even Creed deserves a go. But now you’re signing more talent when you already have an abundant roster?
I do believe that many pundits will say that this could be a great coup for TNA, even though really Bryan Danielson and Nigel weren’t officially in the WWE, it will still come off like that to the IWC. But I do believe that TNA, while on this roller coaster they have with their young talent, should work on building their current roster and see where it takes them. Eric Young for the first time in TNA is getting a push albeit and long overdue and a tad mishandled one, he’s grown on me and hopefully if booked correctly will have the “JBL effect” where he will be accepted as a main event talent despite being a midcard or lower talent for years on Impact.
But if TNA is going to outright sign more young talent to basically be jobbers, what good does that do? Bring in local talent for that. Don’t do it for the sake of saying that you out smarted the number #1 promotion in the United States. Nigel McGuinness no doubt will be put with the British Invasion and get to work with a man he’s had battles with and two others who really could learn from him in the ring. Nigel is a spectacular talent, as is American Dragon. Bryan Danielson deserves his shot at WWE to work alongside his teacher, his mentor and with another who helped train him, William Regal. I do hope that TNA focuses more on the talent they have rather than bring in one more talent who they might squander to the degree they have Jay Lethal and the Motor City Machine Guns.
But if you don’t I will probably be putting them up at the PWP website too so either way, your voice will be heard.
