Sorry for the late start folks! I did not expect ROH to start on time and then had a few technical issues. When I joined the broadcast Jim Cornette was talking about his big white butt. Awesome.

Colt Cabana vs Tomasso Ciampa

Things start off slow with Cabana running away from Ciampa and making a fool of him. Prazak and Kelly tell us that this is the largest crowd in ROH history but the venue doesn’t look all that full on camera. More shenanigans from Cabana as he gets a few near-falls and then steps on the hand of Prince Nana! Ciampa takes advantage and hangs Cabana on the top rope and hits a running kick for two. Beat down in the corner by Ciampa and then a running knee as Nana taunts Cabana. Rest hold! Cabana fights to his feet and tries a springboard moonsault but Ciampa gets both knees up! Ouchies. Hot shot onto the top turnbuckle by Cabana and here come the jabs. Colt hits the big bionic elbow and some chops, followed by a jumping hip attack. Ciampa blocks a kick in the corner and sits Colt on the middle rope before hitting a big suplex for two. He tries for another but Cabana counters into the Billy Goat’s Curse. Ropes. Flying Apple misses… Project Ciampa!!! Done.

Winner: Tomasso Ciampa via Pin-Fall (Project Ciampa)

Mike Bennett vs Jay Lethal

Lethal of course receives a hero’s welcome, wearing white and blue and with his hair tied back, coming out to generic music. Lethal’s huge reaction (and the standard unflattering TNA remarks) make me feel sad about who is going to win. Lethal does a tongue in cheek Hulk Hogan impression and then a sincere one of Randy Savage as Prazak gives us the audio to accompany it. They start off slow as Lethal continues to out-quick the Prodigy and hits some nice chops and his patented hip-toss into a cartwheel and a dropkick. Slingshot headscissors takeover from the apron by Lethal and then a dive to the outside! Brutal Bob hits a backbreaker onto the ring apron while the ref isn’t looking!!! Bennett flies off the apron and hits a clothesline and then soaks in the boos. Very nice suplex by Bennett and then a seated surfboard as he taunts the crowd. Lethal fights out of it and then gets fired up with a series of running forearms and a handspring elbow. Diving leg lariat off the second gets two. Lethal goes up top but Brutal Bob distracts him and Bennett hits a giant superplex. Bennett ascends the turnbuckles himself and misses a big elbow drop. Superkick! Black Machismo Elbow!!! He wins it! I’m stunned.

Winner: Jay Lethal via Pin-Fall (Top Rope Elbow)

Lethal slams his hands onto the ROH logo on the mat to get a chant going and soaks up every drop of his adoration. Nice moment.

No Holds Barred Street Fight

Homicide vs Rhino

Homicide has new music but I can’t tell what it is. He takes the mic and reminds the fans that he’s from New York and Rhino is not. Cheap? You betcha. Rhino gets a decent pop… but… he’s in the Embassy… I’m confused. Shockingly they start off by slugging it out. Spinning headscissors sends Rhino to the outside and he follows with the tope-con-Hello!!! Smatterings of Rhino chants in the crowd. Huge pop-up body press takes ‘Cide down. Vaulting body press finds nothing but floor!!! Homicide attempts a piledriver through a table but Rhino back body drops him through it! And he has a ladder! They are not messing around here. Ladder shot to the knee! Homicide reverses a suplex and hits one of his own onto the ladder! Rhino takes advantage of Homicide’s stalling and hurls Homicide into the corner and the ladder and then military presses him with ease, dropping him onto the ladder one more time. Dude is strong. TKO attempt fails and Homicide hits a flying shoulder tackle from the second rope for two. West Brooklyn Lariat is blocked, Rhino Driver!!! Homicide kicks out. The crowd finally get off the fence and start booing Rhino. Superplex attempt fails but so does a Frog Splash attempt by Homicide. Gore is countered into an Ace Crusher! Only two. Homicide gets another table from under the ring and the crowd want fire. Darn those pesky ECW alumni. Belly to belly suplex plants Homicide and Rhino tries the Gore again but Homicide sunset flips him and gets the pin!

Winner: Homicide via Pin-Fall (Sunset Flip)

Homicide knocks out Nana after the match but is then immediately Gored through the table by Rhino. Sorry, Gore! Gore! Gore!’d through a table. The fans pop but then boo as the Embassy stand tall over Homicide.

Steve Corino w/Jimmy Jacobs vs. Michael Elgin w/Truth Martini

Plenty of talk about Steen already but no sighting yet. Corino takes the mic as a “We Want Steen” chant breaks out. After the standard evil person spiel Corino calls for Steen to appear and he’s in the balcony!!!!! Steen walks through the fans in plain clothes but gets met by security at the guard rail. Intense “Let him stay” chant breaks out and Jim Cornette shakes Steen’s hand but tells him to leave.

Elgin sneaks into the ring and attacks Corino to get the match underway. Surprisingly the fans haven’t completely turned on the event and get into the match as Corino hits the Colby Shock. They go toe to toe with strikes and Elgin of course wins and powers Corino into the corner. Backdrop driver by Corino but Elgin pops right back up. Steen was apparently accompanied out of the building. Abdominal Stretch… Thumb in the Bum. Eurghh. Elgin is sent out of the ring and Corino tries a suicide dive but Elgin catches him and hits the Oklahoma Stampede off the guard rail and a powerslam on the floor!!! He barely caught Corino though. Scary moment. Back inside Corino’s attempts to come back are blocked and Elgin hits a northern lights suplex for two. Elgin teases a Package Piledriver but it fails. Boston Crab in the ropes by Elgin! Chicanery on the outside with Jacobs and Truth allows Corino to hit a big running knee strike. TKO by Elgin and then a superkick! Enormous suplex by Elgin but for whatever reason he elects to not pin him. Powerbomb! Corino kicks out. Buckle Bomb! Spiral Bomb! Over.

Winner: Michael Elgin via Pin-Fall (Spiral Bomb)

Elgin puts the boots to Corino after the bell and Jacobs gets physical for the first time but Truth lays him out with the Book of Truth. The House continue their beat down as the bell rings continually. Powerbomb to Jacobs. Steen is back!!! He’s in the ring! He goes blow for blow with Elgin…. Powerbomb to Elgin!!!! Truth hits Steen with the Book of Truth but it does nothing. Superkick! Steen poses and New York go insane. Security are out again and Corino reasons with Jim Cornette, asking him to allow Steen to speak. The fans want it and Cornette allows it. Steen starts off nice but then says…. F*** Ring of Honor!!!!!! Low blow to Jacobs! Package Piledriver to Corino!!!! Security carry Steen out as he gives the fans a pair of one finger salutes. Cornette swears on his mother’s grave that he will never be allowed in ROH again. I sincerely hope that’s not true.

We go to intermission as the announce team discuss how unliked Steen was by everyone within the company and everyone checks on Corino. Three title matches still to come and that 60-Minute Draw is looking less likely.

ROH Television Title Match

El Generico vs. Christopher Daniels (C)

Daniels has new music. Maybe Disposable Teens is too popular. Daniels attacks aggressively early on and laps up the boos, playing up his paranoid TV star gimmick. Generico uses some quickness and hits his trio of arm drags, clearing the ring. Homicide allegedly has a cracked rib. Daniels wins a brawl on the floor but Generico hits a moonsault off the guard rail!!! Wow. Daniels wants to shake hands but Generico has some knuckle sandwiches to dish out. Hot shot by Daniels and a running elbow floors both men. Daniels heels it up, keeping Generico down and does the Jarrett strut. He teases a springboard 450 but instead just hops the top rope and chokes Generico, before starting a “I’ve still got it!” chant. Amusingly some fans chant Austin Aries at him. Bulldog into the ropes by Daniels and then a headscissors choke. More methodical offense by Daniels. Arabian Press gets two. Generico low bridges Daniels and hits a huge flip dive to the outside! Huge crossbody gets two. Daniels regains the advantage and locks in the Koji Clutch. Generico gets to the ropes and then blocks the Angel’s Wings but gets hit by the Last Rites. After a lengthy standoff Generico hits the Yakuza kick and a Brainbuster!!! Only two. Generico hangs Daniels in the Tree of Woe and hits a Coast to Coast dropkick!!! Daniels needs the ropes to escape the loss. Daniels escapes a brainbuster on the apron and shoves Generico to the floor and into a ringside… person. Brainbuster on the floor by Daniels!!!! He gets the belt and puts it on while Todd Sinclair counts. Generico makes it back in the ring and Daniels asks if he wants to die in this ring. Uranage. He tries the Best Moonsault Ever with the belt still on but Generico gets his foot up! Yakuza! Brainbustaaahhhh!!!!!! Generico is your new champion!

Winner & New TV Champion: El Generico via Pin-Fall (Brainbustahhhh!!!!)

Four-Team Elimination ROH Tag Team Title Match

The Kings of Wrestling vs. The Briscoes vs. The All-Night Express vs. Wrestling’s Greatest Tag Team (c)

Cody B. Ware raps the Kings to the ring and they’re as popular as ever. ANX, the Briscoes and WGTT each have new music. For the first time in the history of these matches the champs get to decide who starts and it’ll be Haas and Rhett Titus. Charlie gives a kid his hat and the crowd cheer. I do believe the fans just chanted Little Jimmy. Haas owns Titus early, working his knee. Rhett tries a slingshot move but Haas just sidesteps and makes him backbreaker himself. Kenny King tags in and the fans want Shelton. They get him. It’s the Chippendale against the All-American and shockingly it’s the man that dances for cash that gets the better of the former wrestling standout, hitting a big dropkick. King manages to hang with Shelton technically for a while and each man misses their big kick counters… King flips out of a German suplex! Rebound crossbody off the top rope by Shelton and he tags Haas back in. King attacks the Briscoes and Claudio blind-tags Haas. He teases the giant swing but won’t do it. He teases an uppercut but he won’t do it. What will he do? A rest hold. He finally tags in Hero and they hit a double boot. King again attacks the Briscoes before firing away on Hero and tagging Titus. Hero fails to land on his feet from a monkey flip so Titus waits for him to stand back up before hitting a dropkick. Would have been nice. Slow match so far. Claudio blind tags in and hits Titus with a big European uppercut. Another rest hold. The Briscoes tag in and immediately assault Titus. Chaos! Haas vaults out of the ring onto Jay. Titus dives onto the pile. Mark wants to dive but the Kings stop him. No idea who is legal at this point. Claudio is thrown out and Mark moonsaults off the top rope to the floor. Hero kicks King’s face in and then hits a running backflip to the outside, moonsaulting everybody and landing on his feet. Madness. Kenny King is the last one left and wants to dive as well but Claudio sneaks back in and stops him. They battle up top but forget about Shelton who vaults to the top rope and hits a double throw!!! The Briscoes mug Shelton and I still have no clue who is legal. Jay and Shelton apparently. Nice dropkick by Jay gets two. Another rest hold. Hero blind tags and the Kings continue the beat down on Shelton with not one wishbone, not two wishbones, but three wishbones. The Briscoes tag back in and Mark suplexes Shelton for two. Haas finally tags in and suplexes both Briscoes. Titus ruins the moment by tagging in and hitting a leapfrog fameasser on Jay. Northern lights suplex to Jay but he isn’t legal. T-Bone by Mark but Titus no-sells it and kicks him in the face. Lariat by Jay and they have control again. Slow slow slow. King comes in and gets booted in the face by Jay. Rebel Yell by the Briscoes. King wasn’t legal by the way. They try the Doomsday Device on Titus but he victory rolls his way free. Jay reverses and holds his tights but can’t get three. Crucible! Jay Driller attempt fails when King again just waltzes into the ring. Mark tries to stop him but gets butterfly kicked. Superkick by Jay but King back handsprings onto his feet and hits the shotgun knees!!! One Night Stand by the ANX and the Briscoes are done! The fans sing the Briscoes out of the ring as Kevin Kelly throws in new stipulations left and right. Apparently scoring a pin lets you choose the next team in. Titus wants the Kings and after a brief stand-off Hero rolling elbows Shelton. That was a tag. Helicopter kick by King gets two. This is a bit of a mess. Hero tags Titus and hits a ma-haasive running senton. That joke would have worked better if it wasn’t on Shelton. Big axe handle smash by Claudio and guess what? Rest hold. Shelton stands up and electric chairs Claudio but Hero prevents the tag. Long beatdown segment finally ends when Shelton sends Hero out of the ring and hits Claudio with the Dragon Whip…. but Hero pulled Haas off the apron! No tag. More beat down! Yaaaaaaay!!! Shelton ducks a double clothesline and tags King who cleans house. STO and a standing moonsault gets two. Spinebuster to Claudio. Cyclone Kill is caught and King hits a leg capture suplex for two. Titus back in and they hit a big boot, cartwheel kick and dropkick combo for two. Hero fights back and hits the KTFO on Titus for two. If Titus has a ruptured ear drum is it wise for him to take shots to the head? Claudio tags in and they hit a big tossing powerbomb as the crowd start to turn. Ricola Bomb fails and the ANX hit the Powerbomb/Blockbuster. Sara Del Rey distracts the ref, Hero hits a loaded elbow shot and Claudio pins Titus. Haas gets the loaded elbow pad and throws it into the crowd! Traditional rolling elbow gets two. Such a mess. The Kings try their suplex/elbow to the back of the head combo but Haas ducks and hits a German suplex. Shelton tags in. Samoan Drop and a Stinger Splash get no reaction. Diving bulldog also gets no reaction. Big double DDT gets an apathetic clap. End this match. That leapfrog thing Haas and Benjamin have been doing for years but refused to name leads to an Angle Slam and a two count. Hero regroups in the corner… Cyclone Kill!!! Still no end in sight. Claudio hits the longest UFO ever to get the crowd back into the match. Shelton Benjamin is public enemy number one for breaking up the pin. King Swing gets another two. KRS-ONE is reversed as Haas headscissors Hero into Claudio. Double Alabama Slam on Hero gets the win out of nowhere, but I’m not complaining.

Winners: Wrestling’s Greatest Tag Team via Pin-Fall (Double Alabama Slam)

The Briscoes are back and they have chairs! Shots to the champions! The Kings stand aside and encourage them to continue. More chair shots now. Security don’t want any of this and the Kings applaud their actions. Lots of chair shots. King and Titus return with weapons and chase them off.

ROH World Title Match

Davey Richards vs. Eddie Edwards (C)

Davey enters to the American Wolves music and is back to wearing trunks and has a snazzy silver hooded ring jacket that looks too big for him. Who is this man and where is Davey Richards? Eddie comes out to his unrecognisable new theme song and the fans give him less love than you’d expect. Oh, my bad, the fans were waiting so they could streamer the bejesus out of both men. My feed died for a couple of minutes but we’re back in time for a tie-up. Davey attempts a huge kick but it’s blocked… sort of. Dueling chants. They play around with arm reversals and each man goes for their signature submission to no avail. Stand-off. They take turns to bridge each other and then each have a try at the snapmare and kick to the back. Striking time and Davey wins the exchange with a huge running chest kick. Richards ties the champ up in the cycling crab but he gets to the ropes. Eddie evades Davey in the corner and flies out like PAC before hitting the sit-out F-5 for a one count. Eddie in control now and he locks in a grounded abdominal stretch but Davey gets the ropes as we hear Roderick Strong is watching in Japan. Bet he isn’t. Eddie peppers Richards with strikes as the fans remain withdrawn. Davey tosses Eddie out of the ring and hits his big running chest-punt from the apron. He vaults back in and hits a suicide dive! Richards does the American Wolves yell… habit? He goes up top and does a wolf howl and then hits a diving dropkick to the back. Eddie blocks a charge in the corner and sits up top but Davey pulls him down into a round kick. Davey sits up top now but gets hit with a rope-assisted enzuigiri. He tries the Backpack Stunner but Davey absorbs it and locks in the Cross Armbreaker! Transitions to a Fujiwara but Eddie gets out of it. Northern Lights Suplex gets two and Davey moves right into the Kimura! He lets Eddie out and blasts him with kicks in the corner. He tries a superplex and they exchange headbutts up top but Davey hops down and hits the step-up enzuigiri. Superplex from the very top. He rolls through…… Falcon Arrow into the Cross-Armbreaker!!! Crowd explode. Eddie counters into the Achilles Lock! Davey counters right back! Eddie jackknife pins his way free but Davey rolls with him and gets two. Intense. Davey tries the Damage Reflex but Eddie catches him and hits the back suplex facebuster. Alarm Clock is blocked and Eddie hits a Fisherman Buster for two. Diving codebreaker! He tries a clothesline but Davey makes like a monkey and flips into the cross armbreaker!!! Eddie gets out of it and stomps Davey’s head in! They repeat the sequence again and it’s brutal. Richards checks his mouth for blood and rolls out. Eddie hits a moonsault off the apron into the crowd!!! He may be hurt. They get back in the ring and Eddie hits a huge dropkick off the top and clutches his knee. Tiger Suplex gets two. Big exchange of stiff elbows. Running leg lariat by Edwards cuts off Davey’s momentum and he keeps grabbing his knee. They battle on the apron and Eddie hits a superkick… 2K1 Bomb on the ring apron!!! Disgusting. Eddie superkicks Davey to prevent him from getting back in the ring and then hits a huge double stomp off the top rope through a table! Wise given the leg thing. Another double stomp inside the ring gets two. Davey ends up on the apron and catches Eddie for the rope-assisted dragon screw but won’t do it to the injured knee. Eddie slaps him and demands he do it so he does! Insane double stomp off the top by Davey while Eddie is still hung on the rope! Ankle Lock! Eddie gets the ropes and then hits a big roundhouse. Both men down. Davey puts Eddie up top for a back superplex but gets knocked down. Maaaany headbutts later and we have ourselves a German Superplex! Running elbow smash in the corner, running sole butt, German suplex! Only two. Powerbomb gets two, and Davey transitions right into the Ankle Lock! Eddie reverses into one of his own and the fans have turned on him. He grapevines it but Richards turns it into the Trailer Hitch Ankle Lock! Eddie gets to the ropes. They’re back on the apron because it worked out so well for them both the last time. Davey hits a series of round kicks but Eddie ducks the final one and he kicks the post. Eddie sits Davey up top and wants a frankensteiner but Davey counters and goes for a super powerbomb… Eddie ranas him in mid-air! Lariat! 2K1 Bomb! Davey kicks out but right into the Achilles Lock! He stomps his head a few times and then turns it into a Cloverleaf. He turns it into the pin that won him the title but only gets two. Backdrop driver by Richards! Backdrop driver by Edwards! They take some time to discuss their next sequence, going head to head from the mat to their feet before slugging it out again. Chops vs Kicks… Richards ends it with a lariat and gets two. Discus lariat barely gets one! Sole butt… spinning roundhouse! Buzzsaw kick! Only two. Three more huge kicks to a kneeling Edwards gets another two! Davey tells Edwards he’ll always be his brother, kicks him to a seated position and hits the stiffest running kick to the face I’ve ever seen. Three count!

Winner & New Champion: Davey Richards via Pin-Fall (Running Kick to the Face)

Davey Richards is finally the ROH World Champion! The crew, Cornette, Kozina and O’Reilly hit the ring and check on both men. Davey wants to talk. Crowd are going nuts. Davey hugs Eddie and they embrace for an uncomfortably long time. Eddie hobbles over and puts the belt on Davey who full on loses it, breaking down in tears. Crowd chants both their names and Davey finally gets on the mic and continues to cry, saying he has no family and that his entourage have been tehre through everything. They have a five-way hug and there’s a dude there I don’t recognise. Davey praises Eddie who takes the mic and tells him he talks about everyone else too much and demands he take his moment. Davey calls out his grandma and grandpa and hugs it out with Team Richards while Eddie sits broken in the corner. Kevin Kelly is crying. Davey goes into the crowd to close the show.

  1. I thoroughly enjoyed the PPV, i was very happy that Lethal beat Bennett, hopefully this is the beginning of the end for that failed experiment. I wish that either the KOW or the Briscoes had won the titles back but whatever. Hopefully the newest feud for the rest of the year will be Corino vs Steen…that will be great seeing corino “fall off the wagon” and it will be “bloody” entertaining series of matches. And finally the world title match and title switch was great. I always feel like i get truth and sincerity from Davey, whether it is wrestling showmanship or the real deal i love it. This is how wrestling should be and i enjoy old school matches like this, could you imagine vince letting a match like this happen (if it’s not the undertaker’s once a year epic). Anyway, overall i give this PPV an A and a big thumbs UP..Once again ROH proves they know how to put on a show. Hopefully nothing changes with the new ownership.

  2. Edwards deserved better. Richards has to be the world’s most overrated wrestler right now.
