Charlotte, NC

Pro Wrestling Xperience is another of the entertaining, fast paced Independent promotions that emerged in Southeast in this past year, I was able to see them in October and while they still have some work to do to remain competetive  PWX  definitely gives fans plenty of entertainment, talented workers & recognizable names. On Dec 9, 2011 PWX presented “It’s Good To Be King” originally scheduled to feature Jerry “The King” Lawler in the main event, more on that later. This show was much better than the last, which on it’s own was superior to most independent wrestling offered in the Carolinas. PWX does a great job of providing a personal fan experience with tremendous entertainment value & in ring action.

The Show started off with the aforementioned announcement that due to WWE scheduling conflicts Jerry Lawler would not be in Charlotte tonight. PWX Heavyweight Champion, ROH Star, and member off The All Night Xpress Rhett Titus interrupted the announcement, limping out to the ring in a knee brace with Joey Janela & Corey Havoc at his side. Titus informed the crowd that Lawler not being here wasn’t the only bad news & that he could not defend his PWX title tonight. The Pro Wrestling Xperience commissioner came to the ring upon hearing this and let  Titus as well as the fans know that there would be a title match!  Corey Havoc would defend Titus’ title against Cedric Alexander. The three seemed taken back by this but ultimately agreed that the title would be safe so we have our main event.

Joey Janela vs Caleb Konley
Joey Janela remained in the ring, if you’ve never seen Janela from afar you’d think old school Rockers because of his ring gear, you may even think that from up close but he’s a solid worker and knows how to the crowd stirred up.  His opponent on this night was  PWI International Ultra J Champion Caleb Konley who was originally scheduled to defend the title against Corey Havoc is very well respected on the carolina indy scene and making a name for himself in DGUSA and EVOLVE as well,  Conley teams with Cedric Alexander as the tag team 7OH!4 so he seemed more than willing to defend his title against a different opponent & possibly help out his partner by taking out one of Rhett Titus & Corey Havoc’s cronies before the main event.  It didn’t take long for this action to get started & it was wild from start to finish. Janela had Conley in the position to get the victory a few times but Conley is never quick to roll over & quit. Staging a comeback and ultimately getting an impressive  submission victory over Janela.

Alex Averignos vs Chivas Kid
Next up was a battle of two very talented guys, as perennial fan favorite Chivas Kid took on Alex Averignos.  Averignos is a very good talent, very solid worker who seems to still be developing. Chivas always has the crowd on his side & it was no different on this night, these two put on a spectacular match and most of what they did in the ring you would’ve missed had you blinked. Each man countered one another time and again, Chivas was flipping all around the ring Averignos took the advantage early on but Chivas battled back and hit an amazing 620 splash for the victory.

Six Man Tag
Jimmy Jack Funk Jr, ZaneXcore,& Mr Elite vs The Great Outdoorsmen & Adam Page
A wild six man tag match took place next & all six  fought hard to be crowned match of the night. First out, was Them Damn Texans Jimmy Jack Funk Jr and ZaneXcore along with Mr. Elite. ROH Star Grizzly Redwood was out next with tag team partner “The Manscout” Jake Manning, known as The Great Outdoorsmen these two were originally scheduled to team with Jerry Lawler stemming from an attack from Them Damn Texans at the last PWX show. Manning & Redwood were not unprepared however as they brought Adam Page with them to the ring, Page is a young, up & coming superstar who gets better each time I see him, and the fight was on!  The match started with a brawl as most 6 men matches tend to resulting in a busted nose for Mr. Elite,  but ultimately Funk, ZaneXcore & Mr. Elite neutralized Grizzly Redwood and worked him over for the majority of the match employing any underhanded technique they could to try and put away Redwood and get a big victory. Redwood finally got the tag to Jake Manning who came in and took out all 3 opponents in a flurry I’ve rarely seen from The Manscout, Adam Page added a terriffic dive to the outside and  Redwood hit a devestating backcracker from the top rope on Mr. Elite who was on set up on Manning’s shoulders as The Great Outdoorsmen continue their winning ways in PWX.

Colt “Boom Boom” Cabana vs Marcellus King
Pro Wrestling Evo heavyweight champion Marcellus King hit the ring next. King has made waves over the last week saying he would beat Colt Cabana and take his Revolucion’ Lucha Libre (RLL) Championship to Evo, renaming it the Pro Wrestling Evo International Title. The crowd exploded as Colt “Boom Boom” Cabana made his way to the ring & as always with Colt, the fun really began here. Cabana really frustrated King early on with his antics as only he can, Marcellus did turn the tables overpowering Cabana. King showed why he is emerging as one of the best up & coming talents on the indy scene in this one, getting several near falls over Colt much to the disdain of the crowd who was solidly behind Cabana. In the end it was more of the same however as Cabana regained the advantage by frustrating King with reversals and counters finally hitting a “Superfly” splash for the victory.

Announcer Chris Shore let us know at the end of intermission that PWX would return to Charlotte on 2/24/12 as “Dem Boys” from ROH The Briscoe Brothers come to town to take on 7OH!4 Cedric Alexander & Caleb Konley. This is sure to be the hardest hitting main event in PWX history! Don’t Miss it!

Mickie James vs Amber O’ Neal
The reigning Queen of Arena Chicks Amber O’ Neal made her way out next for possibly one of the biggest challenges of her life with TNA Knockout Mickie James, as you can imagine the fans came unglued when James made her entrance and Amber O’ Neal always needing to be the center of attention was none to happy about it. A Brief history lesson here: In October O’ Neal took on Lei D’ Tapa who is the niece of former WWE/NWA superstar The Barbarian. Tapa got the win on that night but received a post match beating at the hands of O’Neal, therefore in this match PWX officials named Lei D’ Tapa as guest referee. Back to the match & O’ Neal was none to pleased that Mickie was getting all the cheers & after getting outmatched just a few times she decided to leave the arena. Of course Mickie was not going to leave it at that & went after O’ Neal dragging her back to the ring but O’ Neal pulled Mickie off the top by he hair getting the advantage, there was series of nice near falls & reversals between the two. Perhaps trying to get some measure of revenge O’Neal peformed her own version of the Stink face on Mickie and after attempting a pin with her feet on the ropes O’Neal got into it with referee Lei D’ Tapa, having had enough Tapa pushed her down & Mickie James got a quick pin as the crowd erupted for the former WWE Womens, DIVAS & TNA Knockouts Champion.

PWX Heavyweight Title Match
Corey Havoc(representing injured champion Rhett Titus) vs Cedric Alexander
This one was WILD! from start to finish, Alexander sensing correctly that Havoc would be flanked by Janela & Titus brought out Caleb Konley to watch his back, and each and every one of these men would be involved before the match ended.  The crowd was nearly deafening with chants of “CEDRIC!’ and Alexander gave them everything they wanted and more. Alexander’s matches always start hot & this was no exception as he dumped Havoc to the outside and hit a running knee from the apron to the outside. Alexander missed a flying bodypress and Havoc jumped on him as Titus & Janela jawed with the fans at ringside some of whom got a bit too excited dumping water on Rhett Titus & even tossing a chair over the guardrail at Titus & Janela. Corey Havoc has a great gimmick, reminsicent of a new age Nasty Boy and proved that he was as good a choice as anyone to take the champ’s place on this night, amongst all the chaos Havoc took Alexander to the limit and hit a top rope powerbomb that looked to have Titus retain his PWX title.  The crowd again came alive with a deafening roar & Cedric responded to it hitting vicious kicks on Havoc and preparing to put him away. Alexander hit a frogsplash that Rob Van Dam could’ve taken tips from and was poised to win the title when Rhett Titus pulled the referee out of the ring before the three count & a disqualification was called. Both of these men earned the title of Match of the Night with this one and sent the fans home happy(possibly not as happy as if Cedric had won the title) but still very pleased.

PWX has a show tomorrow night in York, SC which Jerry Lawler will appear taking on Matt Classic, in addition to that it will be 7OH!4 getting a tag match with Rhett Titus & Corey Havoc.
