NWA Championship Wrestling From Hollywood

Episode 82

Taped: May 13, 2012

Sorry for the slight hiatus from reviewing.  Working full time without having back to back days off is tiring stuff.  Anyways remember on my last NWA Hollywood review I said that it was Episode 83?  Well I was wrong because that was actually Episode 81.  It was completely miss-numbered on the Blip TV channel.  Sorry I was forced to lie to you all.  This episode, Episode 82 is sequential in order to the last episode I reviewed.  The last episode I reviewed was horrible for those of you who care.  I’m hoping they picked some better wrestlers to fill the under card.

Andres Cabrera vs. Famous B

This is the start of the show.  This was just a simple squash match.  Famous B is of course now in the under card of PWG and is slowly getting better with each outing.  B looked good in this squash.  He wins with Shawn Michaels-esque superkick he calls Flashing Lights for the win at 3:29.  Cabrera will probably be a future under card jobber on future episodes. *

-Willie Mack is backstage with Mr. Percy Pringle III himself and Mack draws his opponent’s name for the PPIII qualifying match coming up next.  It’s Pretty Peter Avalon!  Finally a decent match pairing for these qualifying matches that quite frankly have been silly so far.  And not silly in good way.  Willie Mack seems pleased with this selection and says he’s going to beat down Avalon and move on in the tournament.

PPIII Qualifying Match: Willie Mack vs. “Pretty” Peter Avalon

Mack tried to dominate from the start but Avalon tried to slow the match down to his pace.  Avalon obviously can’t use high impact moves so he has to use his quickness and smarts to overcome Mack.  Avalon hit a great looking Tope dive on Mack to the outside which a typical PWG would go nuts for but not inGlendale.  Some members of the crowd clapped.  Avalon hit a spring board cross body for 2.  That looked very good.  Mack got the advantage back and tried to use his power to win.  Exploder suplex took Avalon from one corner to another.  Avalon went for another spring board cross body but Mack countered it into a Chocolate Thunder Bomb attempt but Avalon countered that into a hurricane cover for a 2 count.  Avalon distracted the ref and gave Mack a low blow followed by his double knee face driver he calls Martinis and gets the upset cheat victory over Willie Mack at 5:34.  This could have gone way longer and would have been a lot better because of it but that was not to be here.  They did what they could in five minutes and told a good story as well.  Mack went in over confident and Avalon outsmarted Mack in the end to win.  This was good storyline advancement as Mack continues his losing streak.  **1/2

-We’re in the back with an interview with Terex, a really fat dude who wants revenge on the Family Stone after a body slam challenge.  That must have happened a while back because I haven’t seen that.  I don’t care.

-Next is the contract signing for the best of seven series between Colt Cabana and Adam Pearce where each match is a different stipulation and the NWA World Heavyweight Title will be on the line in each match meaning the title could change hands potentially up to six times?  If Pearce loses he leaves the NWA.  It’s his retirement year so a betting man would put Cabana winning it 7.   Both men come out.  After some back and forth gibber jabber, Cabana makes some Chicago Jew jokes with the lawyers and vows to beat Pearce in four straight matches.  “Seven Levels of Hate” is on.

-Promo in the back with Los Banditos.  They are challenging The Tribe for the NWA Heritage Tag Tea Titles.  They call The Tribe pendejos.  I don’t know what that means.  I think its something bad.  Yeah they want the belts.

F2D: Fresh to Death vs. The Hobo and The Manimal

Fresh to Death are Leo Blaze and Josh Rozae.  I’ve never heard of any of these guys except I’ve seen the Manimal before and I really don’t like him.  The Hobo is a hobo like Homelesss Jimmy from XPW.  In fact he’s and PG rip off of Homeless Jimmy from XPW.  The Manimal is a four hundred pound long haired, long bearded bare footed man.  Manimal likes to bite fingers.  Fresh to Death have potential as there are athletic but look really generic.  This was such a contrast of styles.  F2D seem like serious wrestlers while Manimal and The Hobo are like horrible 1990’s WWF characters.  The finish saw Blaze hit a twister neck breaker on The Hobo for the win at 2:39.  This was such an awkwardly booked match.  Just when you think NWA Hollywood gets some momentum they put on weird crap like this.  I guess they’re trying to push F2D and keep Manimal and The Hobo as lower card jobbers.  I guess that works but Manimal and The Hobo are so boring and have no appeal at all. *

-The Tribe are backstage.  Words are cheap.  Action speak louder than words.  Like we haven’t heard that before.  They’re coming for Los Banditos tonight.

-James Morgan draws his opponent for the PPIII qualifying match coming up next.  He draws Jarek Mathews.  Stu Stone and Morgan say Mathews sucks and it’s going to be a cake walk.  God their probably telling the truth in reality.

PPIII Qualifying Match: James Morgan vs. Jarek Mathews

James Morgan is an on again off again announcer for the show.  Mathews is like a fat Pelle Primeau.  Morgan and Stone were right, Mathews does suck.  But guess what, Morgan sucks just as much.  After a minute of arm work Morgan locks on a cross face chicken wing for a tap out at 1:35.  This sucked.  Mikey O’ Shea comes out for revenge for the loss to El Ridiculoso and gives Mathews and side winder slam.  This again made O’Shea look like a total idiot because he cost himself the match.  *

NWA Heritage Tag Team Titles: The Tribe© vs. Los Banditos

It’s a brawl before the bell even rings.  The crowd is not really hot for this match though.  I’m not too excited to watch it either.  And for some reason Los Banditos don’t want to get in the ring.  John Ian comes out to make this an impromptu lumberjack match for the tag belts.  All the NWA Hollywood jobbers come out to surround the ring.  The Tribe dominated the first part of the match.  These guys are thick so their offense is strikes and power moves.  But they move kind of sluggish and not smooth.  But they’re working on it you can tell. Escondidohits an enzugiri on Hawaiian Lion to turn the momentum of the match.  Banditos give Lion the Ricky Morton treatment.  After Lion gets beat down for a bit Navajo Warrior gets the hot tag.  All four men in again.  In a very creative spot, Hawaiian Lion superplexesEscondidofrom inside the ring outside on top of the lumberjacks.  I’m impressed.  I’m surprised I haven’t seen that spot in a lumberjack match before.  Inside the ring Navajo Warrior hits a DVD on Rico Dynamite for the 3 count at 8:13.  This was pretty bland.  It seemed like a developmental tag match.  It wasn’t too excited as it probably should have been considering it was a title match.  I remember when the RockNES Monsters were the champs and they were putting on exciting tag title matches.  This was just okay, even with that cool superplex spot which the announcers should have made a bigger deal out of considering the creativity behind it.  I hope they put the belts on Joey Ryan and Goodtime to make things more exciting in the tag division.  The only people who were excited to see this match were the wrestler surrounding the ring.  **1/4

*This show was very average.  Again, I criticize the under card.  Some of these guys should not be on television at all yet.  I’m sick of the stupid characters like Manimal and The Hobo.  The Tribe needs to drop the belts because they are not exciting the crowd at all.  Cabana is pretty much the only draw for the crowd and you can tell because he gets the biggest reaction from the crowd.  Hopefully changes will come but I’m skeptical.  Another mixed bag this episode.
